Forecast: Another day of freezing your toushy’s off followed by another night of “share the damn blanket it cold”.

Not bad for next week as it looks like we might get above freezing during the day.

Nebraska Attorney General John Bruning has again forgot what state he lives in and has filed suit challenging the right of the Ponca tribe to build a Casino on land they own in Carter Lake IOWA.

The National Indian Gaming Commission rules that the tribe has the right to conduct gaming on its property. Bruning claims that because people would have to travel through Nebraska to get to the Casino they should have a say.

John, if you want to call the shots for Carter Lake then you better try to get the state boundary changed and annex the place. Iowa is Iowa and Nebraska is Nebraska now shut up before they build toll booths along Abbott Drive.

The Jury has the case of Andre Robinson. the 22 year old is accused of killing a 22 month old baby belonging to his 17 year old girlfriend. Robinson is now claiming he lied to police to cover for the girlfriend and that he was never caring for the child. In an TV interview Robinson once claimed he had kicked the girl like a soccer ball. Her wounds were so severe that they could not determine which blows killed her.

Robinson was apparently upset his 17 year old sweetheart had an abortion of his baby and so he killed little Bransesha to get even. He has 3 children, two with another woman whom he was still seeing at the time.

Somebody drop this guy on his head….off the Woodman Building…..please…

James Martin Davis wants to know why 2 accidental shootings in Sarpy County carry different charges. We can answer that JMD, it’s Sarpy County. When has anything in the legal system made sense over there. Don’t make us bring back up the Henning case.

A Fremont Nebraska substitute teacher has been accused of stalking another teacher. She has been a sub since 1990 but will no longer be used. The incident dates back to 4 years ago and apparently stems from the stalkers child not being put on the National Honor Society.      The alleged stalker…is the wife of the Middle School Principal.

This story was unbelievable. A Morrill County man is being held in the Bridgeport jail after being bound over for trial. He faces 58 felony counts of sexual assault on a child.

Here’s the breakdown:

46 counts of sexual assault

1 count aiding and abetting a 1 degree sexual assault

6 counts felony child abuse

5 counts of incest.

I don’t think I really want to hear all the details to this one.

The 35 year old man is looking at 2480 years in prison.

Little editorial here. I was going through the intersection of 108th and L and I want to thank Tim Weander once again for making Brewburgers get rid of that landscaping project that would have spruced up the corner. The dirt clods and little red flags are really a nicer touch to the area. Thanks Tim, you da man.

And finally we have the story of a man who allegedly stole a car that the owner left unattended warming up in the driveway. The alleged car thief then crashed the car into the side of a day care at 20th and Emmett where he was arrested but began to complain of back pain so he was taken to Creighton Medical Center to be checked out. While the officer was distracted momentarily (Yeah we know how hot some of the nurses are over there) the suspect walked away and a search of the hospital turned up nothing. Lets hope the officer at least got a phone number.

That’s it for now….back again later….

Despite protests from neighboring residents the Omaha City Council voted to grant Liquor Licenses to the new owners of two infamous establishments.

Cheaters, formerly Straight Shooters II , at 40th and Farnam and the Citrus Lounge at 144th and Center had to enter written agreements with the City that they would gear their operations to a less rowdy crowd.

A Douglas County District Judge sentenced 31 year old Chantal Randall to 25-35 years in prison for killing a 17 month old child in her care.

Randall plead no contest to the charges. She had punched the child so hard that it lacerated her liver then left the child to die while she fed the 4 other children in her care, including the little girls older brother. In an effort to conceal her actions she strapped the child in a car seat and attempted to lodge a quarter in her throat to make it appear she chocked.

Her prison term will be shortened to 12 and 1/2 to 17 and 1/2 years under state guidelines.

After seeing this I can only ask how you punch a 17 month old for pulling your hair. I don’t care how much “pressure” you were under. Sorry Judge, not long enough.

A 21 year old woman reported that a man approached her outside her Regency apartment and asked for a light. He then pulled a gun and pointed it at her at which time she ran. She did hear a shot but was not injured. Police discovered a shell casing but no suspect. What Street Gang calls Regency home. The Biff and Chad’s?

And in one of the dumbest things I have ever heard, sources say that the gunman that took the life of a bright young woman as she sat in her car at the KFC drive through, might have been motivated by the Packers loosing in the playoffs. Give me a break. If this is this guys defense somebody get the jumper cable’s.

More later………………….

Muppet Mike Makes State of the City Speech

Filed under: Omaha, omaha city council — eyeonomaha @ 1:36 pm

In front of a bored to tears room full of 8th graders, the Muppet Mike tour stopped at Morton Middle School and gave it’s State of the City program.

A well polished act now, Mayor Landows lips only seemed to twitch slightly as the Muppet performed.

His speech included plans to reinstate the Independent Police Auditor. (Define independent)

Close the city jail within weeks.

Add more police officers to the force.

And no hints on the stadium issue.

He pleaded with City Council members to fund the auditors position once again. Some were quoted as saying they needed more information before making a decision.

Overall the performance lacked pizazz and content. Maybe a better speech writer is needed or maybe the Muppet act has had its run however he hinted in the speech that he intended to gain another term.

The real scary part about that is, both Vokal and Suttle have indicated they are interested in the office as well.

Anyone seen P.J. Morgan around?

Please tell me we aren’t going to have to pay to feed Tristin Bond again…….My wallet just screamed out loud.

Wake up forecast

 BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

with a chance of blowing crap and wind chill’s in the minus. In other words, cover your ass or your gonna freeze it off.

Two Omaha men and a woman were convicted in Federal Court yesterday for their rolls in a marijuana operation that resulted in 2 Arizona men being shot and set on fire.

The Judge gave them life plus 60 years for using a gun in a drug crime. The will not be eligible for parole and also have to face murder charges in Douglas County as well.

The two men, Dale Giles 32 and Charmer Brown 25 separately addressed the court.

Giles blamed the trial and presentation of the evidence.

Brown begged for Mercy to prevail over Justice. That he was a brother, a dad, a son and coming soon to Leavenworth a bitch. Mercy over Justice ? WTF? You shot these guys then lit their bodies on fire in the weeds outside of town to avoid having to pay 3 million for a ton of pot. Sorry the slap on the wrist went out the window years back.

Now the girlfriend was sentenced to 11 years in federal lock-up and 5 years supervised probation. Evereada Kouris 31, has two kids with Giles. Can someone reach over and bitch slap the girls mother for giving her a name that sounds like a Battery. Eveready? Were you planning on her working the pole or the corner mom?

Anyway, Browns family claims this is an injustice and that he was a good boy. Yeah Ok Whatever…tell it to the guys left smoldering in the weeds.

Sick goddamn world I tell ya……..

The Salem Baptist Church at 30th and Lake was packed with family, friends and strangers who came to pay their respects to Brittany Williams.

The 21 year old was the victim of a senseless shooting in the KFC drive through at 30th and Craig.

Brittany was remembered for her big bright smile that lit up anyone she was with. She was a straight A student at UNO aspiring to become a nurse so she could help others.

Out of respect for her memory I can’t make the comment I want to make at this time about the man that shot her.

A Nebraska State Patrol officer pulled a vehicle over near the Lincoln Airport for speeding. When he approached the Ford Expedition he could smell pot coming from the open window. A search of the SUV netted 81 lbs with a street value of $300,000. Two California women were arrested. Moral of the story, don’t smoke your own supply on your delivery run.

Hope they were not coming here to deliver it, look what happened to the last 2 poor bastards.

And I am sure we will have a follow-up on Muppet Mike’s State of the City Performance being held at 9:30 at the Morton Magnet School.

Muppet Mike will talk about new Police strategies and community policing in an effort to curb the gang violence.

He will also touch base on the new stadium and the need to add police and firefighters to fill the void left by the mass retirements.

By the way the Police are accepting entry level applications.

So grab your coffee and tune in for a bowl of BS at 9:30. See if you can catch Landow’s lips moving.

Thats it for me this morning. Bugs will be in later, I’m guessing around a half hour after the Muppet show is over.

Enjoy the weather today people. Temps could flirt again with the 50’s but were going to freeze our little asses off tomorrow.

Wonder if that forecast will earn me the Meteorological Seal of Approval?

Got a candidate for CFM (complete fucking moron(Thanks Captain))

Early Saturday morning an officer was sitting in the Eastbound turn lane at 96th and Q when a Westbound driver lost control of her car and hit the cruiser sending the officer to the hospital. The driver of the other car was 15 and cited for, DUI,MIP and a host of other offenses. Nice driving sweetheart, lets hope they hold your real license for a few more years till say oh after you complete rehab. No word yet on if she will loose her Brittney Spears Fan Club membership.

A construction worker that was securing metal to the roof of the new Wal-Mart being built on the old Ranch Bowl site was killed Sunday when the metal gave way and he and another worker fell 25 feet to a stack of metal below. The other worker is in critical condition and the names have not been released pending notification of family. Neither man was from Nebraska.

OSHA and a host of other investigators will be on site today.

An out-state story caught my eye and I couldn’t help but share this with you.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has asked Southern Power District to install a device called a spinner on it’s Platte River power lines that run near the migration path of the Whooping Crane.

The Wildlife Service is picking up the tab for most of the devices and asking Southern to pay about a thousand dollars and install them. Cost per customer would be roughly $1.20.

The President of Southern is baulking at the idea saying it would cost to much and nobody knows just how effective they are.

Mongo translated that to mean ” I don’t give a shit about the birds and that buck twenty a customer comes out of my bonus so let’s have a barbecue.”

I wonder if the fine will be over 30k if one of the birds gets zapped?

And authorities can’t say if the 18 year old shot at the Amoco at 30th and Martin ave will survive his injuries. He is still listed in critical condition. Police said he was not an employee of the station and they don’t know if he was a customer or just shot there by someone. They are asking for help in the investigation.

The Lancers skated to 2 big wins over the weekend. Friday they beat Waterloo 3-1 and Saturday they beat Sioux Falls by the same score.

UNO was off this weekend.

That’s all we have this morning. Back later with more………………

Filed under: Lincoln, Nebraska, Omaha, omaha fire fighters — eyeonomaha @ 9:25 am

State Senator Pete Pirsch has introduced a bill that has passed the first round of debate, that will increase the fines and lost points for anyone exceeding the speed limit by more than 35 mph.(Lets see  70 + 35 carry the one  whewwww Im still ok).

The law now only allows for a maximum fine of $200 bucks or $400 if in a construction zone. Apparently police are writing over 3 tickets a week for excessive speed on the Dodge Street expressway. Ya know it does kind of look like a Hot Wheels track.

Bail was set at $25,000 for the Bellevue teen accused of shooting his two friends with a “Romanian Deer Rifle”. His attorney expects his father to post the required 10% sometime later today.

Police in Bellevue are seeking a man who called a local florist and claimed to be a police officer investigation stolen credit cards. The man asked for the names and credit car numbers of people making recent purchases and the clerk gave him 4 sets of information. The numbers were then used to make fraudulent charges.

Ok did anyone take this clerk out back and beat her with a bouquet of azaleas for giving out that information without a warrant? Over the phone? This just has “DUH” written all over it.

An Omaha Firefighter battling a vacant house fire near 31st and Charles narrowly avoids serious injury. Kevin Mandina had entered the house and had the floor give way underneath him. He fell through the hole, stopping at his shoulders and other firefighters pulled him to safety. He continued to fight the fire after that.

Mr Public Safety Dan Welch said this potential tragedy could have been avoided if the city had followed his study guidelines which would have eliminated this firefighters position from the engine thus he wouldn’t have been there to fall through and if they would have just let this place burn out all of this publicity could have been avoided.

We are glad Kevin is safe and that our fire crews are staffed properly.

That’s all I got this morning. Looks like a dead news day. More later………………..

State Legislators rush to get their final bills introduced, get ready for some real dandy’s.

First up is Senator Abbie Cornett’s proposal to require scrap metal dealers to finger print and photocopy the photo I.D. of every customer. Also it would require a 72 hour waiting period before the dealer could pay the seller.

Sounds good till you really think about it. Do you really want that much personal information floating around the office of a scrap yard? Then you have to ask how much of this stuff will end up in the landfill because to many legit people will think it’s to great a hassle and just dump the stuff instead of recycle. The  scrap metal thefts are a problem but I don’t think putting the burden of law enforcement on the business owner is the correct solution.

This bill was my favorite. Senator John Nelson of Omaha introduced a bill that would allow cities like Omaha to annex across county lines.

Hey John I just got a call from Elkhorn and they said to sit down and shut the hell up.

Mayor Landow and Muppet Mike stated they were against the bill and had nothing to do with it, (cough cough Bullshit cough cough) then they continued to write new street names on the Gretna City map.

Nelson claims the move would spur economic growth and lower property taxes. Add to that lower level of city services, lousy snow removal, spotty police protection due to an overstretched force, sounds like a winner Johnny. How about you work on a bill that requires city bus service to all areas of the city? Just a thought.

The 18 year old kid who carelessly shot his two friends with what police describe as an AK-47 assault rifle has been charged with second degree assault. The wayward shot passed through one person and shattered the knee of another. The kid has retained JMD to represent him and Davis says that it was an act of carelessness and not an assault.

The boy claims he purchased the gun he says is a Romanian Long Rifle, for hunting and was showing it to some friends. While replacing the cover he accidental pulled the trigger and the injuries occurred.

Davis may have a valid argument and this may be better solved in civil court. I’d like to see a picture of the gun and know what caliber it is. The Romanians made a long gun used as a training rifle that was a .22. If this is the gun in question then they should stop calling it an AK-47. If it is truly an AK-47 then what was this kid planning to hunt? JMD is a busy man these days.

And police chased down a couple of hold up suspects after the Bank of the West branch inside the HY-Vee at 88th and Center was robbed. After a short car chase police ran down the suspects near 80th and Castelar, and no one of them was not named Patches, and quickly took them into custody.

The Bank of the West seems to be getting more than its share of hold up’s anymore. Anyone looking into the theory that it’s former customers trying to return the favor?

Bill Would Give Up To 20 Million To Rosenblatt

Filed under: College World Series, New Stadium in Omaha, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 2:31 pm

A bill has been introduced that will give up to 20 million dollars to repair or rebuild Rosenblatt Stadium. The city would have to match the funds at a 3-1 rate, thus the city would have to put up 60 million to get the 20 million.

State Senators Synowiecki, Ashford, Preister and Howard all said the State has a dog in this hunt as well and will get the money from the cash reserve. They also want to see the proper choice made in the matter. One that will lock in the College World Series and also not be an over burden to the taxpayer.

Muppet Mike said the bill was pre-mature as he has not made his choice on which site the new downtown stadium will be built.

Were draggin a little today. Call it Overtime hangover from last nights Creighton game. The Jays took #22 Drake to the edge but couldn’t push them over, loosing 68-60 in OT. Still a great game to watch.

Ernest is making one last push at getting rid of the Death Penalty in Nebraska and replacing it with Life without Parole. Chambers claims that the public would be just as safe with these monsters behind bars as they would if they were no longer consuming oxygen. Hmmm Ernie, the name Michael McGuire ring a bell? Never say never unless they are taking the long dirt nap.

An officer answering a domestic disturbance call last night was punched in the face. Police were called to the house near 32nd and Ohio and learned from the grandmother that her grandchildren were fighting downstairs. All this at 1:30 a.m. on a school night.

When officers attempted to break up the fight the officer was attacked by the youths. A 16 year old girl and 15 year old boy were sited for felony assault on an officer and a 16 year old boy was sited for obstruction and resisting arrest. I’m guessing they were not planning on going to school today, anyway.

Latif Mister was given 50-60 years in prison for the senseless 2006 shooting death of 17 year old Tyrone Simpson.

Mister pulled a gun on Simpson in a park near 43rd and Miami, checked to make sure it was loaded and then shot Simpson.

Mister should be in his 40’s before he might be eligible for parole. His lawyer begged the judge to not make this young boy and old man with his sentence. Hey JMD he did that on his own when he first picked up the gun, second- Checked to make sure it was loaded and third- pulled the trigger.

A 26 year old Omaha woman was found shot to death in a Lincoln apartment and her 43 year old boyfriend was found unconscious next to her body.

Police have arrested Robert Dunkin and charged him with first degree murder in the case.

The woman’s friends say she went to Lincoln to break up with the man she had been seeing for 2 months. After he shot her, he apparently attempted to O.D. on prescription drugs but he wasn’t successful.

Anyone catch the video of former President Bill Clinton catching up on his dreams during the I have a Dream service in a Harlem church?

Sorry for the late posting, I must have hit something other than the publish button this morning after I finished this.

This shooting at the KFC on North 30th is crazy.

19 year old Kyle Borman apparently blew out a major lobe on the top floor as Police say his randomly shot 21 year old Brittany Williams as she sat in her car at the drive through.

The shot was taken from over 100 yards away. Then this nut case drives through the crime scene and leads officers on a short chase.

The young lady who was a Junior at UNO had no connection to this psychotic trigger puller..

Not to pass judgement to soon, but somebody warm up old smokey for this guy. Even if he is found insane he needs to say nigh night before he has a chance to walk away from a Regional Center Field Trip to Borders.

A 17 year old worker at the Sonic near 30th and Fort got an unexpected ride. When two men refused to pay for their food and attempted to drive off she reached in the passenger window in an attempt to get the food back. She was dragged a short ways. Police spotted the car near 30th and Spencer and watched three men get in and drive off. They were pulled over near 24th and Maple where 2 were arrested on suspicion of robbery and one was released.

To bad a judge wouldn’t give them some real time just so they would have to tell everyone in prison that they were there for stealing a double cheeseburger and cold fries.

And Omaha ranked as the 7th best place to be pregnant and have a baby in. That explains why 25% of the girls at my kids school look like they are smuggling basketballs.

So much fun in the city it takes two of us to comment on it today.

Looks like the No-K Coral is heating up in the dead of winter.

A woman was shot in the head and killed in the drive-through of a North 30th Street KFC. Police are releasing little information on the shooting or suspects. Someone was chased from the scene and arrested a short time later but no confirmation on if it is related to the shooting.

Two car-jackers were arrested by police after attacking a woman scrapping her windows, throwing her to the ground, taking her purse and then leaving in her car. Police nabbed the suspects a short time later near 41st and Patrick Ave. after a short foot chase.

Gunfire ripped through a house near 42nd and Burdette over the weekend. No one was injured in the drive-by shooting.

Also a man was shot in his car over the weekend at 30th and Parker after an argument resulted in a man pulling a gun and popping off a couple rounds.

Not to contain all the fun to the North-East part of town, a 38 year old man was stabbed by his ex girlfriend in a home near 104th and Old Maple Road. The mans wounds we said to be serious. Dude no means no and she’s done with your ass apparently. I wonder if she hangs out at Scorz in Ralston? The was a stabbing reported there over the weekend as well.

This was my favorite dumb-ass story of the weekend. An 18 year old male, in an effort to show off his penile extension accidentally shot 2 of his friends with a Romanian made semi-automatic assault rifle.

In a debate about his friends knowledge of guns the man retrieved the weapon from his truck and was showing it off when he accidentally pulled the trigger and displayed his ineptness as the shot passed through a 17 year old male sitting on a couch and struck a 15 year old girl in the leg who was standing behind the couch.

Police say alcohol was not involved in the shooting so that eliminates the drunk and stupid excuse and leaves them with the Complete Fucking Moron factor to contend with.

No arrests were made at this time.

Heather Henning was given 3 1/2 to 5 years in jail for the Drunk Driving Death of Douglas County Deputy Shad Nicks. The Judge said that the public needed to be protected from someone like her who was drunk, speeding and blabbing on her cell phone.

A State Patrol officer mislabeling the blood evidence allowed Henning to bargain her way out of a possible 30 year lock up.

Henning’s lawyer said he thought she was a prime candidate for probation. Are you out of your god-damn mind Steve? Can you imagine if this Judge were dumb enough to give her probation in this case. The fall-out at the next election would have him flipping burgers at Sonic. To bad we don’t hold elections on lawyers. How much fun would that be? Probation? Nice try. We hear O.J.’s looking for another Lawyer, ya busy?

Creighton University has received approval of an on campus liquor license. The plans to open a sports cafe with make it the only college in the state to serve beer, wine and liquor daily.

UNO swept Alaska with a 4-3 over time game Saturday night.

The Lancers traded 3-2 victory’s with Indiana over the weekend, loosing in a shoot-out last night.

A young man who was home sick from school and staying in the care of a neighbor, slipped to his house next door to grab a video game when he noticed two men climbing over his fence. The men knocked on the door then began to kick it in at which time the boy grabbed a bat and confronted them.  The men took the bat from the young man and pushed him down then relieved the family of some of their possessions and the boys video system.

Police are looking for the suspects and we say that if found the boy should get at least 3 swings at each of them with the bat.

Speaking of police and suspects, the chase video from Robert Carter’s run from the law back in November 2006 was released. Pretty amazing how collected the officer is during the persuit even when speeds reached 100mph and Carter began firing a shotgun out the back of the truck he was driving.

Carter was given 30 years in prison and is not eligible for good time due to the fact he is a habitual criminal.

An inmate of the Lincoln Regional Center has escaped during a field trip to Barnes and Noble in Lincoln. The 30 year old man was found not guilty by reason of insanity in the 2004 stabbing death of a Hastings man where he stripped then broke into his house and attacked him with a knife and scissors.

Police are looking for a 6′6″ 270 lb White male with Brown Hair Blue Eyes, last seen wearing a black shirt and blue pants but by now could be running around naked. Didn’t anyone tell him not to run with sharp objects….

Ok, a field trip to the book store ? Who was watching these people ?

Editorial on Upcoming O.M.A.H.A. Presidential Election

This thought came over me as I was looking over some comments in the Q & A page.

With the Presidents spot on the O.M.A.H.A. board coming up for a vote at this years annual meeting, is it possible for the people interested in running for the post to actually campaign for the office?

Here is what I am getting at. As long as I have been around the organization, you go to the big meeting, a few people get up and make awkward 5 minute speeches and you vote, then sit back and complain about them for the next 3 years.

I would like to see for once, someone who is truly interested in the post to step up before hand and actually run for the office. Put it out there, tell us what your ideas to move the organization forward are. What are your goals?   How will you grow the program?

This nonsense of people tossing their hat in at the last minute, getting up and stammering through a speech filled with nothing is not conducive to electing people who will actually strive to improve the experience for our kids. In fact it’s all about agendas and then a couple months later, everyone ends up bitching on here about it.

This should be the year that a few candidates showed their faces around the rink and talked about what they would do if elected. Listen to the masses and get a feel for what’s going on. Talk about some issues with everyone, not just your little group.

And for god sake (Torrey told me to word it just this way to make my point) let’s not have a little note passer in the hallway handing out slips of paper telling people who to vote for because they really don’t know anyone. If your going to run for the post then you need to get known ahead of time. People should know your face and what you stand for, before hand.

And to the people who stand around and complain about every little single simple thing I have to say this.

This years meeting should be packed full. You should be there to vote, if for anything, the best interest of your player.

We need to have better information on the candidates, otherwise with little notes and 5 minute speeches we will end up with nothing but a group of people serving their separate agendas that only benefit a bunch of isolated cliques.

And no, I am not putting my name in the ring nor an I endorsing anyone at this time. If anyone wishes to step up and put their name out we would glad to give them some space to air their views and ideas for the future of the program and to be able to get feedback as to the feelings of the membership. That said, I know there will not be a rush of people to get in line but if you do plan on it, be prepared to put in the time and effort it takes to hold this job and to be blamed for everything.

Now where is Pat ? My car didn’t start this morning and I know it was his fault the dome light was left on last night. The least he could have done is left some jumper cables when he was on his way to make the interstate into a skating rink.

Well well, Fernando Rodriguez has obtained a passport from the Mexican government that says he was 13 when Kelsey Peterson was road tripping cross country with him. His Attorney, Amy Peck say Fernando needed the passport is he is to return for Petersons trial. The real question is, why is his illegal family still parked stateside instead of obtaining passports themselves?

Council Bluffs police busted out the taser to subdue a man who threatened himself with a machete and to blow up his house. Firefighters shut off the gas and police entered only to have the man become feisty at which time they gave him the first in I would assume many electro shock therapy sessions.

This one isn’t for the squeamish or homophobic, but a contract teacher with Metro Community College who was working at the County Corrections Center was arrested for sexual abuse of an inmate after guards found him and another man in a locked office with the lights off. Also found were body lotions, condoms and the rumor of a promise ring. 48 year old Gary Fowler claimed the inmate had raped him to which the inmate replied “You Bitch” and slapped him. I’m sure they will share a nice little starter cell in the near future.

State Lawmakers advanced Nebraska’s safe haven proposal to the next round. The bill allows a mother to leave her baby at a hospital or with a firefighter on duty at a fire house within 72 hours without facing charges. Beats the hell out of behind a dumpster don’t it?

And my Bitch of the day is the Fed’s proposing a 40 cent a gallon hike in the gas tax to pay for highway and infrastructure work.

The idea must be that if we tax the country into a depression then we can rebuild the highway system the way FDR did in the 30’s. Provide work to the people you put out of work.

Here’s a better idea. Lets take all the money we through at Bull Shit projects such as the pedestrian bridge to nowhere and others around the country and use it to fix the things that we really need.

By the way has anyone noticed the bridge being built looks oddly like the monorail at Disneyland? Walt should be suing for someone stealing his design or maybe it’s ok for such a Mickey Mouse idea. Anyway, as a country we piss away more tax money on nonsense and then attempt to suck more and more money off the already over taxed working American.

A new bridge is needed down near Rulo Nebraska where the present one is only 20 feet wide and was built in the ,dare I say it, 30’s. How ever will the next cult be able to set up shop if they cant get the Winnebago over the river.

And do we really think that if they raised this much money they would spend it reasonably? This kind of windfall would have Senators and Congressmen lined up around the block looking to build unneeded project across the country with the theory that if they don’t spend it they wont be able to continue to collect it.

I think we should charge a 25% tax on campaign spending. That way if we are forced to watch endless commercials of false promises at least we will have nice roads to drive to the polls on.

Police have captured a suspect in the two bank robberies yesterday morning. A 27 year old man was chased down and tasered after police spotted the stolen car he used in the two hold-up’s near 28th and Pacific. The man fled on foot and the chase included a car dodging crossing of I-480.

State law makers rejected a change to the Helmet law with a vote of 25-23. As close as it was expect it to come up again.

A video tape released to the media show how out of shape Bellevue officer Chris Parent was and why he failed to keep his job due to his stature. In parts of the video Parent resembles John Candy in a B cop movie as he tries to negotiate a drill that involves him having to have his weapon drawn and safely take cover and pursue a suspect. Parent also was shown having trouble standing up from a kneeling position.

Fund raising continues for the 2 million dollar public bathhouse for the homeless that is to be built at the base of the Pedestrian Bridge to No-where. A park that will attract families with granite statues of endangered species will dot the park along with fountains with dancing colored lights. Nothing like ambiance when your sharing a bottle of Night Train Express.

Creighton knocked out a win over Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls last night. The Jays outpaced UNI 68-59 and look to be back on track.

A little Editorial on my part here. Some of you may that know me outside of here know that I take car of my mothers expenses so she can continue to live in the house she raised our family in. Yesterday I was paying her utility bills, or should say I was attempting to when it occurred to me just how difficult our public utility company’s make this task in the modern era. Cox Cable and OPPD both allow you to pay on-line even though their on-line sites are a bit cumbersome but the one that makes no sense is MUD. This entity seems stuck in the stone age. First , they only accept a Credit Card Payment at the downtown location. No on-line payments or phone payments can be made. It’s time to get with the times MUD. There was an article a few weeks ago about the utility attempting to collect on some delinquent bills that dated back to the Hurricane Katrina period. Maybe if you made it a little easier to pay you might be able to collect more money.

A young lady that works in another office in our building related the story of her single mom sister who was struggling with payments when her ex stopping sending his support payments. This woman had to take time off from work and travel from Millard, downtown to pay her bill before her heat was shut off. Because a shut-off notice was issued she was also made to spend 45 minutes sitting and waiting to talk to a customer service agent AFTER her payment had been accepted. This sounds like a total waste of resources and poor management.

With the high cost of energy it is time that our public utilities streamline their money management and payment processes in an effort to contain rising costs to the consumer. MUD needs to at least get their program up to 1988 Standards with the hope of reaching 2008 standards before the next century.

OK I’m done now.

01.15.08 Noon Update

Filed under: Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 12:45 pm

Two branches of Bank of the West were robbed at gunpoint within 10 minutes of each other this morning. Around 9 am a man held up the 24th and L location and about 10 minutes later the same man robbed the 50th and Grover location. Police are looking for a light Blue Taurus with Iowa tags starting with 461.

And David Sokol has quit the Stadium Review Committee, saying there is a conflict of interest for him with the feelings of the Meca Board at the idea of using Qwest Center parking lots. It appears the Mayors henchmen have zeroed in on the parking lots as there ultimate goal.

A Judge has sentenced 25 year old Sara Hernandez to the Maximum of 300 days in county jail and a $600 fine for her third offense Drunk Driving Conviction. Hernandez was pulled over last April with an open container, blood alcohol level of .013 and 5 unrestrained kids aged 6 months to 7 years old in the back of her SUV. So much for her goal of being president of the PTA. How do you let a 6 month old go without a car seat? What an idiot. Cite her for child endangerment as well.

Ok back to work….More later….

Filed under: Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 7:11 am

As much as I may live to regret putting my name on this, Today’s post will include item’s from both myself and Mr. Torrey.

A Civil Service Commission upheld the firing of Bellevue Police Officer Chris Parent. Parent was fired under a policy that requires officers be physically fit and be able to get behind the wheel without having to sit in the back seat.

Aerial pictures of the former officer show this isn’t the case. The panel had safety concerns with the 5′9″ 300+ Poster Boy for Krispy Kreme.  Parent’s lawyer Steve Delaney said he would file an appeal in Sarpy County Court. Pssstt , take that money your spending on your lawyer and join Weight Watchers, you’d stand a better chance and might become the next Jared…well after you get a haircut that is.

Lame Duck State Senator Ernie Chambers introduced a bill to ban all hunting, fishing and trapping in Nebraska. Not a snowball’s chance in hell of it passing.

Police have made an arrest of the man accused of dragging an officer the other night near 42nd and Kansas Ave. The man was arrested at Creighton Medical Center after being treated for a gunshot wound.

Ught Ohhh it’s Papio again…..

28 year old Morris Trotter of Papillion was arrested and charged with first degree assault and child abuse after a New Years Eve incident that has left his 2 month old clinging to life. Morris is accused of shaking the baby hard enough to cause 90% brain damage according to investigators. He was released on $100,000 bond. The baby’s mother says the childs injuries are not that severe and the the baby is recovering. Let us know when you get over the denial stage of the relationship.

Details of the Colby Dandrow murder emerged in court yesterday.

Dandrow was stabbed 106 times with a butcher knife, had 32 superficial cuts, burns marks, singed hair and was bound with electrical cords and gagged with a bandanna. Makes you want to listen to the White Album with Manson don’t it.

So what did Dandrow do to piss these people off. Why he failed to pay $60 for oral sex from a hooker so nasty that 2 times he was on the unable to perform list. So he asked if a couple of girls in the other room might give it a shot which pissed off an uncle and Hostel 3 began. Granted you have to throw in the crack cocaine they were all doing and you have the new plot for a Tarentino movie.

When asked why he stabbed a dying Dandrow one man said “I lived through it, so could he”. Yikes……..

Hey our friends in the Bluffs have embraced an idea to lower drop out rates and increase the number of diplomas coming out of the City High Schools.

They want to eliminate the grade of Zero. Currently if you turn an assignment in late you get a zero. Under this plan, no matter when you turn it in you will still be eligible for half credit. Under this plan, a good under achiever could turn in his first 8 assignments some of which usually include filling out a school census card and turning in your locker fee on time, then this person could cruise through the year and turn the rest of their stuff in around the last day of semester and still walk out the door with a diploma. I like it. In fact Bugs I think I am going to write tomorrows post sometime next week. Wonder if my bookie would take my Super Bowl bet the day after the game and still pay me 50% for getting it right. Invest in a bigger fleet of short buses C.B., your gonna need them.

Now excuse me, I need a hug…….

And State Lawmakers are looking at a bill that would relax the states motorcycle helmet law. The new measure would allow riders over 21 to not wear a helmet as long as they have eye protection and take a safety class. Currently Iowa does not require a helmet and surrounding states have enacted the same type of law. Lawmakers say our stiffer helmet law causes cross country riders to avoid the state and sends thousands of Nebraska riders over to Iowa where they spend hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Several people were there to speak out against the measure as well.

This could be labeled the Session to Beat the Ban. We have bills introduced to Ban Hunting, Ban Smoking, Ban Guns, Ban Hannah Montana Ticket Sales to outsiders…..how about we ban the ban.

Reconstruction of the Little Billy Dumbass post…..

Filed under: Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 7:23 am

I will attempt to reconstruct my Saturday post on the kid falling at school story.

While reading the paper Saturday A.M. and stuffing a Raspberry filled goodie from Petits in my self, I came across a story that said

A 3rd grader was flipping on a rail at an Elementary School and fell 10 feet to the floor below. The School Nurse checked out the child who remained conscience throughout then entire matter and he remained responsive throughout. The Boys mother was called and she came and got the child.

How I would have wrote the story (Now to include new information)

While doing what he was not supposed to, Little Billy Dumbass flipped over a rail and lost his balance falling down a stairwell at a local Elementary School. The school nurse checked the boy for injury however he remained conscience and responsive so the boys mother, Ms. Dumbass, was called to come get her son.

Since then Ms. Dumbass has lawyered up and now wants to blame the school for not calling a squad even though she could have done the same when she got there and even though nothing pointed to there being a serious injury. Mom now claims the boy suffered a fractured skull and bleeding on the brain even though he was returned home to play video games and allow mom to get her face plastered on the news.

Come back for our next report on the rash of slivers in shop class.

OK that’s as close as I could come. Now the person claiming to be Ms. Dumbass can feel free to re-post her profanity laced, poorly written comments however please leave the threats out. They are so unbecoming of you.
