02.29.08 Happy Leap Year

Filed under: Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, New Stadium in Omaha, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 6:25 am

Remember the three girls who carjacked the young mother and tossed her baby to the curb then laughed when they were booked for the crime? Well they were in Court yesterday asking to have their cases moved to Juvenile Court.

14 year old Desirea Levering, 15 year old Mary Likely and 14 year old Uniquea Davis we not laughing so much this time as the prospects of doing hard time may have started taking control.

In the words of Ron Popiel “But wait there’s more.” Likely’s attorney Stu Dornan claims lead poisoning made her do it.

This is the child of the woman who back when this happened said “I believe the girls went up as said give us your vehicle, but all this we beat you up and we threw your baby out of the vehicle, none of that is true”. Well neither is the lead defense, nice try Stu.

My question is why this isn’t a hate crime? Dollars to Doughnuts if 3 white chicks from the burbs did this we’d be watching Ernest Goes to Court for the next 6 months.

If they get their cases moved to the lower court then I think the parents should be charged with neglect as well just for not keeping good enough tabs on then and letting them run the streets.

Surrogate mom to the Westrods shooter was in court yesterday. Debora Maruca-Kovac was charged with possession of more than an ounce but less than a pound and contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Her offspring William Maruca  19,was hit with possession and contributing. Kraig Kovac 17 was hit with possession and paraphernalia.

Police found papers, baggies with marijuana, pipes a bong and a scale and 2.3 oz in a purse but the family wasn’t dealing. OK.

Hey Deb, blame the paint. Oh and stop trying to act like your cool and 20 and getting stoned with your kids. The 60’s are over.

A 28 year old Lincoln woman got quite a scare when a 65 year old woman driving a Toyota Camry  didn’t get the car in park and it rolled into the other woman pushing her through a store front window. She avoided serious injury somehow and no tickets were issued as it happened on private property.

Bugs will get a kick out of this. The Douglas County Court now allows you to pay “online” your traffic fines that do not require a court appearance. They smack you with a $2.25 processing fee and only take Visa, Mastercard and debit cards but it is a step in the future unlike MUD across the street who now takes Credit Cards but you still must drive downtown to pay with one. I guess Trog over at MUD can’t figure out how to get the verifier to work on their website because it can’t read stone and chisel.

(That last one was written from notes from our sick buddy who managed the strength to type that note. Now we know what really pissed him off)

And one of the big story’s yesterday was how Ken Stinson worked behind the scenes to get MECA to cave in and get behind the Monument to Mike baseball stadium. IN the deal brokered by Stinson between David Sokol and Muppet Mike, MECA will get a say in things as they should and will run the facility as they should. They will also get part of the stadium revenue so that MECA won’t get hurt financially by the stadium but they wont get a giant windfall either.

Only problem is the Muppet was counting on stadium revenues to help pay for it so now we have to make up that money. Grab your wallet and bury it in the back yard.

Looks like nice weather on tap for the weekend. Get outside and get some fresh air. Hell go enjoy the site of spring, trees starting to bud, some grass beginning to green up, trash blowing through the Sounding Stones….yep it will be summer before you know it.

And after the week we had here on the Q and A page this joke is to easy but I can’t let it go.

The Lancers are at Sioux City tonight.  Tonight is Court Appearance night. Show your docket number and bail receipt and get half off.

Saturday the Lancers are at Tri-City and next Friday the 7th they return to play Cedar Rapids. The Bantam A-1 team will be the team of the night at that one. See I told you it was to easy. At least I didn’t make a joke about someone throwing out the first punch. Damn guess I just did. Laugh about it people, its all you can do.

Have a good weekend.

02.28.08 Thursday in Doughnutland

Finally the Ballpark plan is unveiled to the public and now we know why the NCAA told Muppet Mike he needs to get more community support.

First, this thing will never go to a public vote. If you want to voice yourself, contact your City Councilman because they will have to sign off on it.

To build it they must come, or agree to come for at least 20 years. That’s the length of NCAA contract for the CWS needed to make this even begin to work.

Creighton and the Royals must sign on as well.

The cost including paying off the Rosenblatt bonds 140 million.

42.95 million in private donations

37.6 million from Stadium revenues that include

Premium Seats (say good bye to your good CWS seats folks, Corporate Omaha just got the go ahead to buy you out of them)

Naming rights ( So long Johnny Rosenblatt make way for Peter Kewitt Park)

Parking (Watch it go from $6 to $10)

Per Seat tax for baseball tickets (So long last 300 Royals season ticket holders)

1% increase in the Hotel Tax (The Muppet claims nobody will notice. Till they read their bill.)

$2 car rental tax increase (Watch em set up shop in Carter Lake with Shuttle Service)

2.13 million in Keno Revenue (till the smoking ban takes place and all the gamblers that smoke head across the river) This includes cutting the County out of the Keno money so watch your County taxes increase.

What you will get is 24,000 non removable seats.

28 Private Boxes ( The Muppet and his cronies need to be seen)

And the bill for the parking garage that isn’t included in the bid.

Anyone notice the smile on Ken Stinsons face. That’s because he is looking at a $140 million dollar project right in the Kewitt back yard.

Legendary Musician Buddy Miles has passed away at age 60. Miles, an Omaha native, played with the late Jimi Hendrix and wrote the classic “Them Changes”. If you ever had the chance to catch Buddy sitting in with the local talent it was a special experience. Buddy you will be greatly missed in the music world.

Ralston High has started a new lock out tardy policy. This policy has the teachers lock their doors when the bell rings. If a student is not in the room at that time they are required to go to a study hall in the cafeteria and the teacher must call the parents.

Sounds good on the surface but lets ask these questions.

Sure it is important to be on time but it is also important to be in class not study hall.

Isn’t locking an exit door during school hours a little against the fire code?

There has to be a better solution than this however Ralston plans on adding it to the Student Handbook next year.

The Iraq War vet and his family have settled with the landlord that tried to evict them upon his return from duty. The two parties reached and agreement where the landlord will let them out of their lease 6 months early without penalty and they can move by March 31st.

The Vet said in his suit that the managers of the apartment complex were rude and unreceptive to offer a resolution and the last thing they wanted to do was live in a Robert Hancock managed property now. Don’t blame them after watching this story unfold. Best of luck to you.

And the mom who exposed her 4 year old daughter to pot smoking has temporary lost her parental rights and the girl and her 2 year old brother have been placed with the biological father who is angry at the entire situation.

The kids don’t know why mom was tossed in the slammer and she is not allowed to tell them in her monitored phone conversations. She is also unable to post 10% of her $25,000 bail. Must have smoked it.

Her lawyer said she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her kids back and is attending parenting classed in the Douglas County Corrections Center. Great, lets make sure we do our best to reunite them all as soon as possible so the children won’t miss crack class in their home schooling. That came right after “How to handle a shotgun on the couch, and Bath day is Saturday” class.

Good thing the dad was a stand up guy and came to the rescue.

And how do the Huskers beat Oklahoma 63-45 the same night Creighton falls to Illinois State 68-54.

Looks like the boys in Red woke up about the right time in the season.

That’s it for me…play nice today

02.27.08 Wednesday with Mongo

Bugs you better get well soon, I am getting to like this being in charge thing……

OK so Muppet Mike promised we would know all about the new stadium after he talked with the NCAA. He held a little press conference yesterday in Hoosierville where once again his lips moved but Mayor Landow must have lost his voice because nothing came out.

Now another press conference is scheduled for 2 p.m. totally screwing up Judge Judy. Word is Muppet Mike is going after the KENO money thus screwing the county out of their cut and costing us more in county property taxes. I thought 3 card Monty was illegal? Fahey is starting to remind me of the Governor in the movie “Best Little Whorehouse in Texas”…..ooooooooo I love to dance a little side step……

And while were talking about the Governor, he signed into law the Statewide Smoking ban which goes into effect a year from June. No doubt this makes a bunch of folks happy however don’t bitch when say a year and a month from now people start crying about lost revenue to Iowa.

Mayor I wouldn’t get to comfortable with the KENO funds at this point as the State just gave 26% of the population another reason to gamble across the state line.

And the Old Market will be so much more attractive with the smokers standing outside every bar on the sidewalk like what happens in Lincoln. Oh and I am a non-smoker before you start on that.

Mark Walsh and the GASP Gestapo are said to be happy with the law and are now going after regulations for Apartment and Condo residents. One at a time people, next it will be your own home.

The 49 year old mom accused of photo-shopping her teenage daughters pics on nude bodies then posting them on the Internet has plead not-guilty. The girl found the pice when she goggled her name back in 2006 and discovered them as well as pics of her mom in sex acts with her step dad and other men. They showed mom on the news last night…..who the hell was looking at these pics in the first place yeeeeeuuuuuuccckkkkkk. Post a pic of Sara Evans naked I might look, but to old for prime time Twila, that would be nasty.

Investigators say the mom contacted the web site administrator back in 2006 and claimed the girl was 20. The first pics posted were back in 2003.

And while we are on the sicko subject, Thomas Gellatly pleaded not guilty as well to child porn charges. Police acting on a tip from Germany traced emails connected to child porn to Gellatly’s home address. His trial will be April 14th.

Add this guy to candidates for Father Fuck-up of the year. A Grand Island man was arrested 4 times in 5 weeks for DUI. One time while his baby was in the car with him and another when he left the baby at home, alone…To bad we don’t have co-ed prison or him and Alyssia Harrger could hook up.

A 48 year old woman was dragged 20 feet after her car was jacked in a parking lot near 132nd and West Dodge. The car was equipped with On-Star and was located at 120th and Blondo a short time later. The woman was reported to be ok. I wonder if the On-Star person came on the speaker and started talking shit to the carjacker. “We got you,  your going North on 132nd asshole….were gonna get you…” Hopefully the guy was hearing voices in his head already and freaked.

That’s it for this morning, Ill stop in the Q & A and see if the kiddies are still debating then it’s of to silent slumber.

Play nice today

Bugs is still out sick.  The hockey brawl on here yesterday must have been the cause of his uncontrolled regurgitation.

The human remains discovered under the South Omaha bridge have been confirmed to be that of Michael O’Connor. He was last seen 2/12/2007 leaving a downtown parking garage across the street from his job. He never reported to work that day.

Former Sarpy County Sheriff Pat Thomas has resigned from the State Liquor Control Board in an effort to avoid being run over by Senator Ernie Chambers farewell tour.

Ernest has accused Thomas of being a racist after Thomas allegedly told a Hispanic bar owner to learn English. The bar owners license had been suspended for 15 day after selling to a drunken patron.

The Mayor Landow and Muppet Mike show hit Indianapolis today as part of the “Sell Out Omaha Show”. The Muppet will make his pitch to the NCAA on the new downtown stadium in lieu of a 25 year or more contract to hold the CWS. The NCAA isn’t expected to provide and answer today and neither is the Muppet.

Many questions are being asked of his proposal and why the people are not getting a say in the matter. The Mayors response, “Let em eat funnel cake”. Can’t wait to hear all his details when he returns from Hoosierville.

Charges we dismissed against Cordell Stewart after a detective was unable to testify due to a family emergency. Stewart is the man accused of shooting Chiwanda Ammons 2 times. Once he was convicted and the second time while he was released on appeal. He was convicted of the first shooting and sentenced to 20 years in prison. Prosecutors are expected to refile the charges.

Sorry for the slow news day. Hopefully everyone can play nice today.

Jim Suttle wants to see the letter the NCAA sent to Omaha regarding the future of the College World Series. He thinks the NCAA gave Omaha more time to come up with a solution.

Mayor Landow and Muppet Mike might have a copy but it wasn’t addressed to the Mayor and is not a public document.

So just who was it addressed to? Eddie the mail-room clerk, Bill the parking lot attendant, Jesse the groundskeeper? Or is this just another Hide and Go Seek by this administration?

The Mayor says he will make the public aware of all details after his dog and pony show with the NCAA folks in Indianapolis on Tuesday including on how he plans to extract the money from you to pay for his shrine or blame you for the CWS leaving because you wouldn’t cave in to his demands. At least Daub had the courage to let you vote on it.

A new twist in the story of the apartment complex that wants to evict the Iraq war vet on his return because of a blemish on his credit.

Several people had come forward to help with offers. Dr. Phil wanted to come do a show about it. NP Dodge, The Citadel Apartments and the American Legion all offered to help but the Vet and his family said they were fine and didn’t need the charity.

Vietnam Veterans of America Post 279 offered to put up $3000 to back the lease. The vet refused the offer telling them to use the money on someone who needed it more.

Here comes the scary part, the Post leader called reporters asking why the offer had been rejected and questioning if the Vets lawyer was just trying to get publicity. He even threatened to start an email campaign if they continued to drag it out. Low and behold who was this guy, the Lawyer for the Landlords Husband.

Now if you ask us, it looks as if the move by the Landlord backfired and the offer to back the lease was actually a bribe to get this bad publicity to all go away. The Robert Hancock Company should be ashamed even more. If they and their lawyer wanted to make the black eye they gave themselves go away they should have just dropped the eviction, not tried to buy it off through a decent organization. Shame Shame Shame on you.

Omaha Police arrested a man at Epply Airfield yesterday and booked him on 3 counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault on a child. It is said that the assaults involved raping of family members.

Police are also investigating shots fired at a gas station at 30th and Ames. No word from our street reporter Boots Sheldon on any details. This is Boots’ turf so we may get something later today.

And if your a fan of Larry the Cable Guy or not you have to love this story. Larry, or Dan Whitney, has paid for the plane tickets for 100 WWII vets to travel to Washington DC to visit the WWII memorial there. He wants to make sure they get a chance to see it.

Larry, we cut off our shirt sleeves and tip our Round-up herbicide hats to you.

Short report today, sorry, still trying to recover but work calls and we are attempting to keep things running.

More later……………….

02.24.08 Weekend Edition

Filed under: Creighton, Huskers, Lincoln, Nebraska, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 10:21 am

Armed with a laptop, a bottle of cough syrup, prescription antibiotics and my favorite blanket, I will attempt to put together something worth reading.

The story on the news of the 4 year old girl who has show police how she smokes pot with her mom and mom’s boyfriend just made me vomit even more.

Police were called to the house after reports of the 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy filthy dirty and within reach of drug paraphernalia. The little girl demonstrated for investigators how she smoked joints used a pipe and a bong and how her mom’s friends laughed when she did it.

25 year old Lisa Schuchard faces felony child abuse charges and could get up to 6 years in prison. How someone can do this to their own child just sickens me.

2 shootings were reported early Saturday making it sound like the NO-K coral is business as usual.

2 males , one 19 the other 23, were victims in a drive by at 27th and Fort.

And a 26 year old male was shot at 37th and Saratoga after an SUV chased the vehicle he was driving and shot him. Can’t wait for the weather to warm up and this stuff to get totally out of control again.

Look like DiAnna Schimik is at it again with her “Government Knows Best” nonsense.

Her bill, LB1141, would require home schooled students to take state mandated tests or have school work assessed by an outside evaluator. If the student should fall short they would be sent to a private or public school, even though home schooled children test at or above their private/public schooled counterparts on a regular basis. HMMMMM…. Oh did we mention DiAnna’s husband is a lobbyist for the Teachers Union.

DiAnna if there were a real problem this might make sense but when the home schooled kids are scoring higher than others on the ACT and SAT’s, well somebody is doing something right and it isn’t you and Brad Ashford trying to make the state the parents for every child.

The Governor said he will veto this if it should happen to make it to his desk.

And while we are on the school issue, LB1135 would blur the lines between club and high school programs when it comes to sports.

Right now a student-athlete is not allowed to participate in and outside activities in the same sport during the active season.

Jim “I don’t care if it’s a Blizzard, drive the bus to Lincoln anyway” Tenopir says it regulates the kids time and keeps the playing field even. Mediocre but even.

I loved the example by one parent, “So does that mean a kid shouldn’t be allowed to take extra math lessons on the side, or work?” Good point. At what time is the child’s time belong to the parent and when did the NSAA get parental rights.

My favorite quote came from Kelley Hood.”People have got to trust that those of us who work in education, we know what seems to be best for kids.”

Translate that to mean “Parents we will tell you what’s best for your kids and you will like it”.  Better living through Bigger Government.

The Lancers are pulling away from the pack in the USHL. Last nights win in Des Moines 8-2 coupled with Friday nights win over Sioux City 3-2 has them playing their best hockey of the year.

UNO on the other hand has dropped 3 in a row and got swept at Northern Michigan, losing 6-4 on Friday and 4-3 in overtime on Saturday after entering the 3rd leading 3-1.

Creighton won it’s bracket buster game over Oral Roberts Saturday on a 3 pointer at the buzzer and the earth is still standing still as Nebraska beat it’s second ranked opponent in 2 games.

That’s all I have the strength to muster up at this point.

Glad I’m not in the same block let alone building as the rest of these guys. Geno called begging for help. “Mongo I don’t know how Bugs does it, I only write a post here in there but never the entire page, can you help me, boo hoo hoo hoo”.

So at 6:15 a.m. I am a bit cranky after working the graveyard shift over at Fast Freddie’s Taco Mart and Firearm’s store, now featuring Live Bait and Pizza.

What is going on with all these people and kiddie porn? Now there is a warrant out for the mom of a 15 year old girl after it was discovered that “mom” photo shopped her daughters face on some nude pictures and posted them on the Internet. Mom has also posted a few naked pics of her 49 year old ass on there as well. I know it isn’t her body mom, but that’s your own kids face you did that to. And she found them doing a search of her own name.

Now there is no wonder why this (biting tongue) woman is an EX-wife. Her daughter lives with the father.

UNL has banned the nationally popular game assassin from all campus buildings and grounds after campus police were alerted to a gunman only to find the guy armed with and bright orange nerf gun.

The game that has been around for some time has a player drawing someones name and then they have to hunt them down and tag them with a nerf dart or at other schools water pistols are used or even socks.

UNL has called the game inappropriate. Next on the ban list is Hide and Seek and pin the tail on the Peerlman.

Strong words from the Governor yesterday as he referred to the Nebraska Supreme Court as an “Activist Court”. (Hey Gov tell us something we don’t know)

Hell Uncle Ben Nelson once dressed up as the scariest thing he could imagine for Halloween,  A Supreme Court Justice. And he appointed most of them.  I am not saying he put in people with his agenda, I’m saying their agenda scares the crap out of him as well.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the electric chair does not violate the 8th amendment of cruel and unusual punishment and in their ruling the Nebraska Court acknowledged that, then interpreted an identical amendment in the Nebraska State Constitution to mean something different. Call it activist, call it Ernies going away hummer, call it what you want, it’s bull shit. Just my opinion.

An Omaha woman gave a ride to a man she though she knew, well she knew but apparently not well enough because he zapped her with a taser, handcuffed her in the back seat, drove a few blocks and kicked her out of the car , then stole her car.

She called police from a gas station at 52nd and Military and police quickly arrested the suspect. My question is “Were the handcuffs fur covered?”

Let’s see what’s going on this weekend,

UNO travels to the Great White North to take on Northern Michigan in Marquette. This will be the first contest between the Mavs and former Assistant Coach Rob Facca who took a job with the Wildcats over the summer.

The Lancers are at home Friday against Sioux City (does the restraining order keep our Bantam people out of this game or just up there? Sorry had to get at least one joke in however there is no truth to the rumor the Bantams will give punching lessons to the team before the game) OK enough of that…anyway its Lowes Youth Building Kit night. The first 300 kids get a Lowes youth tool set capable of taking most household items apart and starting a major remodeling project if you wanted to or not, Get there early.

And I hate basketball do who cares if the Huskers or Jays are at home.

If you got anything good, email me early, otherwise have a great weekend.

Filed under: Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 8:28 am

Everyone called in sick so I guess it’s all up to me today.

The standoff the plugged up midtown traffic for most of the day on Cumming Street ended peacefully around 8:30 p.m. last night. A man who was said to be armed was alone in is house and said to also be suicidal. The man was taken away for evaluation after police entered his home without incident.

The woman who was arrested for driving the 8 year old ward of the state to Lincoln while drunk enough to hit .40 on the Drunk-o-meter will be charged with misdemeanor DUI. Yep that’s right people, 5 times the limit in Sarpy county gets you up to 60 days in jail. No wonder Heather Henning is asking to be re-sentenced.
Denise Thompson was taking the 8 year old to see her mother in prison when police pulled her over. She will be charged with misdemeanor DUI, also negligent child abuse, also a misdemeanor. She is not eligible for the drunk ass diversion program but could only serve a year and a half in jail.
5 times the limit ? 60 days ? Where is Susie Dugan when you need her.

State Patrol Investigators have arrested a National Guard mail-room worker and charged her with taking $39,000 in checks and depositing them in an account she set up back in 2005 oh behalf of the Guard. Problem is she had no authority to do so. She is also charged with felony theft after lieing to the Lincoln Housing Authority about her employment status and income so she could obtain assistance. Damn girl did you knock over the bank you had that account in as well? This woman never met a scam she didn’t like.

Speaking of scams, if you live in Elkhorn and your street address got changed you better pay real close attention to your phone bill. Apparently Qwest charged some people out there $33 for an address change and raised their contract rate for Internet. In Qwest defense they are working on the problem however it wouldn’t have been an issue if the Mayor wouldn’t have mounted the take over.

A new bill, LB 624, would make it a felony to flee from police. Didn’t you think it was that now, kinda explains Ms. Demeanor DUI down in Sarpy. The bill is targeted at reducing pursuits in the State. The was the law stands, dirt-bags can attempt to flee and ditch any weapons, dope or other evidence proving them to be scum and if successful all they get charged with is a misdemeanor and loose a couple more point off an already suspended license. The bill is expected to pass.

A tragic accident at 156th and Q leaves one man dead and people screaming about the number of red light runners in this city. A 45 year old man was turning East on Q from Southbound 156th when he was struck broadside by a 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup that had run the red light. An 18 year old male was driving the truck. The accident is still being investigated, no charges have been filed so far.

And last night the Earth stood still. No I am not talking about the eclipse, the Huskers beat #24 Kansas State 71-64 in Basketball. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile.

Have a good day everyone.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Muppet Mike held a show with the Metropolitan Hospitality Association to talk about his plans for the new downtown ball park. He was still quiet on most details however he brazenly told the attendees that he “Highly doubted the amount of hotel tax in Omaha is going to scare anyone away.” The Hotel and Motel managers told him the were not in favor of a room tax increase.

Folks, do you really think he cares?

If you thought you were having a bad day be glad you were not the 25 year old woman who hit an object at 102nd and West Maple Road at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. That object was a State Patrol Car that had pulled over another driver. Yep you guessed it, DUI and on top of that, open container.  The officer escaped injury.

Attorney General John Bruning has asked the State Supreme Court to reconsider it’s ruling on the electric chair. In his letter the AG listed 5 errors in the ruling one of which states that the Nebraska Constitution now offers criminals more protection than the U.S. Constitution.

No word on if a new hearing will be granted and yes Ernest is attempting to stick his nose in it. Be sure to watch for the release of the new blockbuster “Ernest didn’t take the Bar Exam”.

The vote for dumbass of the day goes out to the 31 year old man who was arrested for attempting to rob the Creighton Federal Credit Union for the third time this month. Police had the facility staked out and apprehended the man as he exited with an undetermined amount of cash.

Chrissy Edwards as he is now known in prison, wants a new trial. Edwards was convicted of the death of Jessica O’Grady and sentenced to 100 years in jail. Her body was never found but large amounts of her blood were discovered all over Edwards bedroom and 0n a Bankok Battle Sword in his closet.

Edwards claims he is entitled to a new trial because he was not allowed to bring up relationships with other men that O’Grady had. Guess they would only matter is the men had access to your bedroom now wouldn’t it Chris. Be a stand up guy and let her family know what you did with her body.

Delayno Shackelford was given 6 more years in prison after pleading no contest to manslaughter of an unborn child. Delayno kicked his 8 month pregnant girlfriend 2 years ago causing the child to die.

Creighton bounced back from a loosing streak to beat Missouri State last night at the Qwest 88-67. Senator Ben Nelson delivered a pre-game pep talk to the team (Win or I’m taxing your scholarship)

And the Lancers beat Lincoln 3-2 in overtime at the Ice Box. Barry Almeida got the game winner.

Late Update: FedEx just stopped by with a copy of an incident report. After reading Goober’s version of what happened last Saturday we, well I, have come to the conclusion that this was a stupid incident involving irrational hot heads and even as much fun as I or we could have poking fun of the situation, we are going to let it be. (In other words I know someone involved and frankly it would be to easy ).

However reading the version that I was provided I still wonder how long it took Bubba the town cop to write it out in crayon. No wonder details are sketchy, I believe this report contains stick figure pictures of what happened though they are listed as “artist rendition”in the evidence column.

Now you can all stop emailing me, I did not throw anyone under the bus, but I could leave a copy for Mongo if you want me to.

More later…………………….

Just like Bob Kerry’s gold watch across the Missouri river ,Muppet Mike’s handpicked committee has come back with it’s recommendation that the new ballpark be built Downtown with no word on how we will pay for it. (Does your wallet feel lighter? It will). It came as no surprise that Mayor Landow and Muppet Mike’s chums came back with a plan that affirms what the Muppet wants. Even though they tried to dispel the notion that the end result was preconceived, the release of the non detailed plan was a non event. The plan is so super top secret it’s details wont be released to the people expected to pay for it until it has been taken to the NCAA.

Already a web-site has popped up to start a recall effort of the Mayor. www.Recall-Fahey.com  was launched shortly after the announcement.

An off -duty Omaha fire fighter was arrested Saturday morning and almost tasered by LaVista police after he became abusive and resisted arrest.

The 32 year old fire fighter was a passenger in his SUV that was being driven by a 24 year old woman who was arrested for her 3 DUI.

No comment from OFD at this time pending and internal investigation.

A man was the victim of a drive by shooting while standing on his porch near 41st and Corby Monday afternoon. Police say a red car passed by and opened fire on the man. No suspects so far.

Two complete idiots robbed the Burlington Coat Factory at gunpoint around 2 p.m. Monday. What could they possibly have gotten in this heist, change for a twenty and some credit card receipts. Oh and that genuine imitation leather jacket on display by the front door. There would be more money in pay phone outside Qwik Trip. Never said we had the smartest criminals here. Thank god they are lousy shots as well.

Got a kinda sorta update on the melee in Sioux City. So far it appears that no parents were involved and that it was over before it really began. Thank god, the last thing I wanted to watch on YouTube was someone I know being filmed acting like a complete out of control buffoon forcing me to openly make fun of them on here. More details when we get some factual information (The Police report will take a couple of days to get to the office, today was a holiday I’m told).

They say persistence will get you everywhere well in this case it got a 50 year old man charged with Felony Theft of Services. The man was unable to obtain Cox cable services due to a previous unpaid bill. That man allegedly climbed into his apartment complex attic and spliced into his neighbors cable line back in October. Cox technicians discovered the splice and disconnected it. Another outage was reported on February 6th and technicians discovered the splice was back. The man reportedly had received 70 channels of nothing plus HBO.

A nice heads up to Omaha Police who nabbed a couple of copper thieves at the former VIP car-wash on 90th around 3 p.m. yesterday. Forced entry leads to burglary charges, here’s hoping they hang a couple more thefts on them for good measure.

02.18.08 Presidents Day

Filed under: New Stadium in Omaha, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 8:55 am

Thanks to the Official Government Holiday  I get to do this edition from home.

A man was taken to the hospital in critical condition early Sunday after he was hit in the head with a blunt object during a fight inside a North Omaha IHOP. Officials say the mans injuries are not life threatening. Police are still trying to determine what the man was struck with but are afraid someone consumed the item as part of their special.

Little hoopla is expected in the issuing of temporary liquor licenses for the CWS this year. 7 will be the magic number again at the special meeting 1:30 this Friday. The public is allowed to speak against an applicant if they so wish.

Today is the day the committee is said to be releasing it’s recommendation on the stadium issue. Certain polls show that most Omahan’s favor a Rosenblatt Renovation but then Muppet Mike didn’t put any of them on the committee did he? The spin put on this might be fairly amusing.

The lady who provided the pot smoking playground for the Westroads shooter is now embarking on a interview tour to attempt to call foul to the drug bust at her house.

15 officers served a no-knock search warrant after getting tipped that drugs were being sold from her address. Her lawyer, Glenn Shapiro, said the number of officers were overkill to bust someone for a users amount of marijuana. Hey Glenn, maybe they didn’t know what they were going to come up against at the home considering past issues.

Now the owner is contesting statements she made involving who owned the drugs found. She also denies giving her son money and sending him to buy for the rest of the family.

Her nursing license was suspended a few years back for narcotics abuse however she now claims she is clean. Clean? Looks like she was allowing have the teenage population smoke weed in her house, I wouldn’t call that clean. Willie Nelson has her house marked as a tour stop. Cheech and Chong once scouted the place for a movie location. Own up to you bad judgement and shut up.

And we are getting sketchy reports of a fracus in the stands up in Sioux City during a game between the Bantam A-1 team and Sioux City. We are still trying to dig up some concrete information on it but so far it sounds like Omaha pounded them on the ice and off. Anyone know who threw the K.O. punch? Video? Was the B-22a team there to cheer you on and got involved?  We will keep digging and see what we come up with. If you want to forward details you can email our tip department at HockeyHighlights@hotmail.com

That’s all we got this morning. Back later if anything good breaks……………..

Filed under: Creighton, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 3:39 pm

The Lancers posted a 7-0 win at Sioux Falls making Mike Hastings the winingest Coach in USHL history. The win also keeps the team 2 points in front of Indiana for the overall lead.

Last nights trip to the civic ended in disappointment as Bowling Green topped the Mav’s 3-1 on the back of the BG Goalie,Eno, who was blistered throughout the night but turned everything but one shot away.

A little over 7,000 was there with us and made us wish that many had come to watch the Knights with us on a regular basis. That is still a great place to watch a hockey game.

Creighton took another shot to the head yesterday in Peoria, falling to Bradley 87-59. Creighton has 4 regular season games left.

So much for our Sports Extra Update….

02.16.08 Weekend Update

Filed under: Lincoln, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 9:13 am

Another well liked teacher/coach has shocked all that knew him and has been charged with possession of child porn.

Tom Gellatly, the speech and drama teacher at McMillan Magnet Middle School was charged after dozens of images of prepubescent males were found on his home computer. Gellatly also served as the swimming coach and had previously taught at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.

Friday must have been the day for stupid court rulings. A Sarpy County Judge has released Heather Henning on bond pending her appeal that the sentence for her killing Douglas County Sheriff Deputy Shad Nicks while she was driving drunk was excessive. Henning was given a mere 3 1/2 to 5 years in jail for the incident. Due to an error in labeling the blood alcohol evidence Henning’s charges were lowered as it is. Heather had only sat in jail for a month before her release. Shad’s family will serve a lifetime without him.

A Knox County District Court Judge has ordered a couple who was attempting to adopt a child, to return the three month old to it’s biological mother after it was discovered they did not disclose the mothers pregnancy.

The 22 year old biological mother had wanted her son to be an only child and now could no longer support the placement.

The couple said they had not intended to deceive anyone and that the mother had miscarried three times previously.

Karen Authier, Executive Director of Nebraska Childrens Home Society’s praised the Judges ruling.

Ok let me get this right, the 22 year old didn’t want to raise the child but wanted to dictate how many kids were to be in the family? The people adopting the child had miscarried 3 times so it would be prudent to think it could happen again and they want badly to raise a family, unlike the woman giving the child up?

It sounds to me like birth mom didn’t want the expense and responsibility of raising the child but wanted to call all the shots while it was being raised. And maybe it’s just me but this sounds like Baby Brokering and a Judge just facilitated it.

Hope Brad Ashford is reading this….In the second time in a week a driver contracted by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services was been charged with endangering a child in their care after a man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 15 year old he was transporting to a group home. This follows a woman arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol level of .40 transporting a ward of the state down I-80. Another youth being transported earlier this year escaped and was later charged in a murder in Omaha.

So Mr.Ashford do you really still want to clog up Juvenile Court with kids missing school when it appears the State has a big enough problem watching out for  the kids in it’s care already?

And then we spotted this.

The Dawson County Board has ignored the advice of its County Attorney and voted to hire outside council to fight the opening of Shaker’s West, a nude dance club owned by the same person who runs the location in Waverly.

The County Attorney informed the board that the code did not differentiate between the types of commercial use. No alcoholic beverages would be served or permitted. He warned the board that this will cost an enormous expense to the county to fight an unattainable battle.

The owner of the club’s attorney vowed to file suit if the Board attempted to halt the opening saying they would charge them for  loss of revenue and reduction in property value all which will cost the County taxpayers considerable expense if the win.

Just a word to the County Board out there, you better look around and do some research on this because you won’t win this case and you will cost everyone a ton of money, wait what am I saying , you won’t win…Shit Heather Henning’s out of jail, anything can happen. Lawyer up folks and may the best suit win.

A big high five goes out to Mike Hastings of the Omaha Lancers. With last nights 7-2 blasting of the Tri-City Storm Mike ties former Des Moines Coach Bob Ferguson’s all-time USHL win mark at 517. He will look to break that mark tonight when the Lancers take on Sioux Falls. The win also puts Omaha ahead of Sioux City by 14 points.

And UNO rocked the old barn last night with a 5-3 win over Bowling Green at the Civic. ( Hockey is so much better there). The two teams meet again tonight in the old house.

And there is some pretty good hockey going on out at Moylan as the O.M.A.H.A. Jr Lancers host Shattuck St. Mary’s this weekend. Games are Sat 2/16/07 at 11:15 and 7 p.m. and Sunday 2/17/08 at 10 a.m.

And the Midwest Champion Bantam AA team will be hosting the Presidents Day tournament over the weekend as well.

So get your butts off the couch and get out there.

And Pat, I don’t care what anybody else says, but as I sit here and write this I have to say NICE JOB on the TV’s. What a pleasant surprise to walk in here today and not have to lean on the front counter or fight 15 unwatched siblings over the Disney Channel. The place looks great and you and your staff should be commended. The only thing that could make this wall of video any better would be if everyone passed the hat and kicked in for a subscription to Center Ice. Then again, some of us would never go home.

Have a great weekend everyone………

02.15.08 Friday Edition with an Editorial from Mongo

Just when I thought Manderson Street had something to brag about the story takes a turn. It appears the two victims that fought back the would be robber had a very large stash of marijuana in their home and have since been arrested. You just can’t find role models anymore.

Murder charges against a gang member arrested for the 2006 shooting of 24 year old Kenny Miller outside a convenience store near 24th and Redick have been dropped. It seems the 18 year old gang member scares the witnesses and now they wont testify out of fear of retaliation. Well you know this wanna be bad ass will mess up again soon enough and be back in custody, lets just hope there isn’t another victim on a slab because of it.

The Millard South teen accused of rape has been charged as an adult. Tyler Jacobson is being held on a $50,000 bond after a classmate reported that he assaulted her while giving her a ride home from school. He has since been expelled from school as well.

The NCAA doesn’t want a court battle over location of a new stadium and has said so after MECA voted 4-1 against using the parking lots at the Qwest as a location. MECA said it is willing to take legal action to protect the lots.

Muppet Mike said he and Mayor Landow are not concerned over the NCAA comments because the legal fight would be “quickly resolved in our favor”. Who’s favor Mr Muppet? You and Paul’s or the people of Omaha? This guy wont be happy till we have the highest Hotel tax in the country or our property taxes on our home’s rivals the house payment itself.

And now Mongo Torrey is here with editorial comment on LB1159,

State Senator Brad Ashford’s bill, LB 1159, proposes to help in the reduction of truant school children. The bill will require Juvenile Court Mediation after 20 absences from school, excused by the parent or not and will also take out wording in state law that no longer allows the school to take a parents word at face value for an absence.

Now Brad I know you have good intentions. You claim one out of five kids in Nebraska drops out of school which if that fact is correct puts us next to Arkansas as the leaders in retard production. However Mr Ashford, you can’t wipe our ass for us forever.

Here is the problem with this bill which is said to have no opponents down in Lincoln.

This requirement of Juvenile Court mediation would put an undue hardship on a family that has a child who has missed x amount of days due to an illness. Take a good case of mono for example, or a child injured in a car accident. Not only do the parents have the medical costs to deal with, now they have to hire one of your lawyer friends to take care of this court issue. I am guessing you did think of that didn’t you?

Ok then there is the issue of holding the parents responsible with fines and jail. You do know what’s going to happen here don’t you? The parents that really don’t give a shit if their kid is in school or not are going to claim they can’t control them and have them made wards of the state. Better hire some more drivers Brad.

Back when I was in school I didn’t know 5 kids that dropped out, let alone one in five. Did you ever think of looking at the school itself and asking why so many kids stop wanting to attend if your numbers are correct? Christ I just quoted Ernie Chambers. Well he has a point. Somewhere in the last 20+ years we did something in the schools that caused this problem. Figure out what that is Brad and you might be on to something.

Now does your bill require Homeschooler’s to report when their students miss 20+ days? If not then that’s a bit unfair don’t you think? Oh wait, I hear you and a couple other meddlers want to get involved in that department as well even though there really isn’t a problem.

I’m starting to think you would be better off relegated to checking the men’s room to make sure the toilet paper holders are full than attempting to parent for the entire state of Nebraska. We don’t need to clog our Juvenile Courts up with kids missing school for being sick, attending college workshops, family crisis. If you insist on running this up the pole then maybe you need to put in a provision that says “Court Intervention after 20 days unless the child has C+ average or better”. That way the Honor Role student who misses a few days to explore future options visiting college campuses and attending outside learning opportunities and then happens to get sick doesn’t have to force themselves to attend class and infect the entire student body with the plague just to keep their parents from having to mortgage the house to pay for an attorney to represent them and prove they are not unfit parents.

Now toss this one in the trash and go back to hiding boogers under your desk.

The views expressed in that Editorial are that of the writer and not necessarily that of the entire staff of the Eye On Omaha, however I am guessing not one of us has the balls to differ with him at this point in time, YIKES….

Don’t forget the UNO-Bowling Green series is at the Civic this weekend. We don’t want any fans going to the Qwest expecting to see the Mav’s and instead getting exposed to two guys on a mat in tights. (Here comes the email).

Have a good weekend everyone.

02.14.08 Happy Valentines Day

Here’s one for the folks on Manderson,

Last night around 8:15 a man opened his door to a man saying he had a Valentines gift. The man did ,because when the door opened he pulled a gun and attempted to rob the couple who was having none of it and pulled a knife and preceded to kick his ass. Go Team. The would be robbers get away driver sped off and all three went to the hospital with the would be robber facing the worst injuries.

We would comment on Jim Suttles earth shattering proposal for a stadium but frankly can’t stop laughing long enough to type it. Jim, you did that as a joke didn’t you? If not, save your money and don’t run for Mayor because somebody will use that video clip against you.

Word is the ACLU is watching the Plattsmouth Schools policy of having parents submit to background checks if the want to attend in class activities. Some parents are concerned because the form sent out has something on it about a credit check and asks for your Social Security Number. What your credit has to do with serving cookies to second graders I will never know.

State Senator Brad Ashford has a bill, LB1159, that takes out the sentence that allows School Districts to accept on it’s face value a parents excuse for and absent child.  WHAT?????

Deputy Douglas County Attorney Kim Hawekotte said by taking that sentence out  schools have to react when a youth isn’t in school no matter what the reason. So Kim does that mean every-time little Billy doesn’t feel well you have to run him to the doctor to get a note because mom and dad are not capable of determining the illness thus driving up a family’s medical cost yearly for unnecessary trips to the doctor? “The School should have the responsibility to look into the reasons no matter what the parents say” she was quoted.

So in other word’s the State will decide if your kid can miss school or not. Hope this raises an eyebrow with some of the Hockey parents who sometimes pull their little Gretzky out early on Friday to get to a weekend tournament. Even though your kid may be on the honor role it won’t matter.

As introduced the law would get law enforcement involved sooner including the County Attorney (giving Kim some extra job security) and fining parents of truant children.

This law looks like a logistics nightmare and an added level of bureaucracy already not needed in the school system. I think there is something in the no child left behind that covers this as it is but I need to research it today. Brad sometimes you scare us.

Senator Pirsch’s bill to increase the penalties for super speeders was signed into law. Now when police catch the fast and the furious on West Dodge it will be a little more painful to the pocket book.

Three Bellevue East students are accused of snorting cocaine in shop class. Bellevue police have arrested one 19 year old for possession. An anonymous caller tipped off the authorities to the students snorting cocaine while the class was going on.

Lincoln Potato Chip maker, Weavers , is closing it’s doors leaving 70 plant workers out of a job. The chips have been produce there since 1932 and falls the way of Kitty Clover and Guy’s. Company officials say a supplier was to provide Nebraska grown potatoes but delivered Texas grown ones instead and they were unacceptable thus making it impossible for the company to fill it’s orders.

And Omaha Police report a large number of complaints of people getting unwanted porn images sent to their cell phones. Imagine walking through the store, your phone rings and when you open it you get Debbie doing Dallas…..these freaks will stop at nothing to market their crap. Police say if you receive one of these unsolicited calls to report it to police. In some cases they can get the phone service sending them shut down.

Everyone have a Happy Cupid day….

Here is a story that should outrage every vet out there.

Upon returning from Iraq, Tommy Jelinek moved into the apartment his wife Trista had rented while he was off fighting for his country. The Villa Vinne apartments are managed by the Robert Hancock Company and require all residents over 18 to be on the lease and have good credit. Tommy apparently had a couple of black marks and so without further fanfare the manager gave them and eviction notice even thought his wife has been living there and paying rent on her own for 18 months.

The Company’s Attorney said “Just because he is a member of the armed services doesn’t give him a free pass.” You have to be kidding me.

So what happens when someones kid turns 18 while living with a parent and going to school. Are they required to kick them to the curb if they don’t pass a credit check? The management company needs to cut this guy some slack. A Judge has issued a temporary restraining order until a hearing on the matter next week.

Down in Lincoln or Legislators worked feverishly on a bill that would change the sentence for first degree murder to life without parole in all cases.

Currently the bill to abolish the Death Penalty require the Judge to look at the aggravating and mitigating circumstances before imposing the sentence. The revised bill will eliminate that step.

Something else to keep in mind, under the State Constitution the Board of Pardons can commute any sentence to a number of years and thus make someone eligible for parole so no doesn’t necessarily mean no on this date. How about we build a better bug zapper.

Also efforts to tighten the seat belt law and make it a primary offense advanced. Supporters say it will bring in an additional 10 million in federal funds to the state not to mention give law enforcement another reason to pull you over. (No offense folks, your only doing what your told to do, we know)

A 12 year old Omaha girl who was last seen late last Friday has been found safe. The girl had an argument with her mother and never returned home. No word on where she was found.

A 17 year old Millard South student is accused of first degree sexual assault of a 16 year old classmate during a ride home from school. The girl alleges that the boy was giving her  a ride home when he pulled into a parking lot at 144th and U and raped her. The victims mom contacted school officials who said they had several complaints about the boy.

Didn’t anyone tell him he was just blocks from the Stoney Brook Madams house. $50 there would have kept him out of jail.

And Jim Suttle will unveil his plan for a stadium and CWS today at a news conference held at Rosenblatt stadium.Looks like Jim is about ready to start kissing babies in a run for the Mayors office.

Banning Hallmark Holidays

Filed under: Mongo Torrey, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 9:34 am

With all the talk in the State Legislature and on City Councils about banning this and banning that, I, Mongo Torrey, would like to propose a ban of my own.

After years of enduring hardships brought on by a corporate conglomerate that mercilessly sucks countless dollars out of my wallet each year and contributes to countless tons of waste being placed in our landfills contributing to who knows how much global warming if Al Gore is to be believed, it is time to call and end to this madness.

So I now propose a ban on all Hallmark Holiday’s starting with Valentines day. What a bunch of crap this has turned out to be. What started out as a kid as a way to tell that buck toothed redhead across the room that you thought she was cute has turned into a “Your the biggest piece of Cow Shit if you don’t spend $100 of dollars professing your undying love again even though you just did it at Christmas” holiday. Now you can’t get out the door without dropping close to $20 on cards, $25 on candy, $50 on flowers and if you remembered to get a reservation at somewhere other than Denny’s back in August $100 on dinner.

If I would have invested everything I have spent on past cupid holidays and compared return on investment the results are mind boggling. I could be sitting on a beach collecting 15.85 percent right now instead of getting up before the crack of dawn to make sure the doughnuts are ready.

Now we have added Grandparents day, bosses day, secretary’s day and others to the mix. Wanna piss off Al Gore, send him a few cards made out of styrofoam for Earth Day.

I don’t need a card for Fathers Day. The joy of watching my kids get old enough to fend for themselves is enough of a gift.

The last time I celebrated Secretary’s day and sent flowers and took her to lunch it almost cost me half of the estate because my wife had not been told of this holiday at the time and stumbled on to us at while dining at the Garden Cafe.

I don’t need another “Greatest Boss ” trophy to go with the “Biggest Jackass” ones already in the collection. Wanna show the love on bosses day, smile and wave when walking by the window instead of letting the air out of my tires for once.

Grandparents day, another reason to allow my Mother in-law to lay down a guilt trip. I can’t wait for the card mongers to offer online subscriptions to have cards mailed before the holiday. Just plug in your key dates and we will photocopy your signature and mail them for you for the small price of $39.99 a month plus tax.

It’s bad enough we spend a billion dollars at Easter on candy and cheap toys in an effort to convince our kids there is an Easter Bunny  (not to be confused with Bunny from Lincoln on CraigsList) but now we have Easter cards as well. I highly doubt Jesus rolled the rock away from the tomb to discover a basket of goodies with a shovel and pail for the sandbox and a card that said Happy Easter, dust yourself off and come over for some Ham and mashed potatoes. Love Mom.

So I propose we stop wasting money on this stuff and save it for something useful, like tickets to the Key’s and sunblock.

Sorry about the late start, I was busy getting an early morning ass chewing via email for being late…….I passed it on to Torrey so he could indulge in the fun as well.

First up…..

An Omaha man only gets 7 years for having his computer loaded with over 6000 images of child porn. Sean Brannen used a peer to peer network to download the images and it is said to be one of the largest seizures in the state. Sean will be serving his time in federal prison where we hope siezures will be a frequent occurrence in his everyday life for the next 7 years.

The Bellevue City Council voted 6-3 against drafting a City smoking ban. Council members said they wanted to see what happens with the State wide proposal in the Legislature and avoid paying an Attorney to draft something that would be covered under State law anyway.

Lincoln police have busted another person for selling prostitution off of CraigsList. 24 year old Allissa Greiner was arrested after officers arranged a meeting in downtown Lincoln where she exposed her breast and discussed a price. I only wish we could show you a picture of her here as her aka name was “Bunny”. There is no way in hell you would picture this chick as a “Bunny”. Well road kill rabbit maybe but not a “Bunny”. I feel sorry for the Officer that had to witness the exposure. Hope he got hazard pay.

Looks like Handshake Hal and Muppet Mike are gearing up for another Battle in the media. Hal wants the stadium committee to look into the U.P. property on the North side of Abbott Drive and Muppet Mike says that will be to costly and he wants his Stadium next to the Qwest so it will appear to justify the Pedestrian Bridge to the Council Bluffs Homeless Hangout.  Hal also would like to see the Stadium built with bonds so it has to go to a vote of the people whereas Muppet Mike wants to figure out a way to keep the voters out of the mix for some reason. No word from Mayor Landow on this so far but we are sure he will speak up later today.

The City Council was briefed yesterday on progress but few would comment at this stage.

Don’t forget the UNO-Bowling Green series is back in the old house this weekend due to the State Wrestling Tournament at the Qwest.

And the University received approval for a Thurs-Sat-Sunday format for the first round of the CCHA playoffs due to the Kieth Urban Concert at the Qwest on that Friday.

Woman arrested for DUI blows a .40…..with a kid in the car.

Filed under: Nebraska, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 4:12 pm

25 year old Denise Thompson works for Beneficial Behavioral Health Services which provides transportation for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Thursday police were alerted to a car swerving between lanes and driving erratically. After a short chase that never reached over the speed limit the car was pulled over. Inside was an 8 year old ward of the state being taken to Lincoln by Ms. Thompson. Problem is Ms. Thompson had consumed enough booze to have her blow a .40 or 5 count em 5 times the limit. At 4:30 in the afternoon.

She was arrested for DUI, negligent child abuse, driving left of center and driving on the shoulder. She posted $200 bucks and was released on bail.

The child was released to it’s foster parents.

Holy crap…..Hey Alissa  I think we found you a cell mate.
