Finally the Ballpark plan is unveiled to the public and now we know why the NCAA told Muppet Mike he needs to get more community support.
First, this thing will never go to a public vote. If you want to voice yourself, contact your City Councilman because they will have to sign off on it.
To build it they must come, or agree to come for at least 20 years. That’s the length of NCAA contract for the CWS needed to make this even begin to work.
Creighton and the Royals must sign on as well.
The cost including paying off the Rosenblatt bonds 140 million.
42.95 million in private donations
37.6 million from Stadium revenues that include
Premium Seats (say good bye to your good CWS seats folks, Corporate Omaha just got the go ahead to buy you out of them)
Naming rights ( So long Johnny Rosenblatt make way for Peter Kewitt Park)
Parking (Watch it go from $6 to $10)
Per Seat tax for baseball tickets (So long last 300 Royals season ticket holders)
1% increase in the Hotel Tax (The Muppet claims nobody will notice. Till they read their bill.)
$2 car rental tax increase (Watch em set up shop in Carter Lake with Shuttle Service)
2.13 million in Keno Revenue (till the smoking ban takes place and all the gamblers that smoke head across the river) This includes cutting the County out of the Keno money so watch your County taxes increase.
What you will get is 24,000 non removable seats.
28 Private Boxes ( The Muppet and his cronies need to be seen)
And the bill for the parking garage that isn’t included in the bid.
Anyone notice the smile on Ken Stinsons face. That’s because he is looking at a $140 million dollar project right in the Kewitt back yard.
Legendary Musician Buddy Miles has passed away at age 60. Miles, an Omaha native, played with the late Jimi Hendrix and wrote the classic “Them Changes”. If you ever had the chance to catch Buddy sitting in with the local talent it was a special experience. Buddy you will be greatly missed in the music world.
Ralston High has started a new lock out tardy policy. This policy has the teachers lock their doors when the bell rings. If a student is not in the room at that time they are required to go to a study hall in the cafeteria and the teacher must call the parents.
Sounds good on the surface but lets ask these questions.
Sure it is important to be on time but it is also important to be in class not study hall.
Isn’t locking an exit door during school hours a little against the fire code?
There has to be a better solution than this however Ralston plans on adding it to the Student Handbook next year.
The Iraq War vet and his family have settled with the landlord that tried to evict them upon his return from duty. The two parties reached and agreement where the landlord will let them out of their lease 6 months early without penalty and they can move by March 31st.
The Vet said in his suit that the managers of the apartment complex were rude and unreceptive to offer a resolution and the last thing they wanted to do was live in a Robert Hancock managed property now. Don’t blame them after watching this story unfold. Best of luck to you.
And the mom who exposed her 4 year old daughter to pot smoking has temporary lost her parental rights and the girl and her 2 year old brother have been placed with the biological father who is angry at the entire situation.
The kids don’t know why mom was tossed in the slammer and she is not allowed to tell them in her monitored phone conversations. She is also unable to post 10% of her $25,000 bail. Must have smoked it.
Her lawyer said she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her kids back and is attending parenting classed in the Douglas County Corrections Center. Great, lets make sure we do our best to reunite them all as soon as possible so the children won’t miss crack class in their home schooling. That came right after “How to handle a shotgun on the couch, and Bath day is Saturday” class.
Good thing the dad was a stand up guy and came to the rescue.
And how do the Huskers beat Oklahoma 63-45 the same night Creighton falls to Illinois State 68-54.
Looks like the boys in Red woke up about the right time in the season.
That’s it for me…play nice today

Ralston has had “tardy sweeps” a number of times this last semester. You wouldn’t believe the number of students who don’t care about getting to class on time. Allowing these kids who “chit-chat” around the halls and waltz into class 5-10 minutes late disrupts the learning environment for the students who do care about learning, and are responsible enough to get to class ON TIME. The amount of time the students have in each class is very limited. Having other students coming in late cuts into that valuable learning time.
The students who actually care about getting to class will learn quickly that the school means business. No one enjoys going to study hall. The numbers do go down alot after a student has missed class because of this sweep. What is surprising is the fact that there is still a number of students that don’t even care, and when the parents are contacted, the parents just offer excuses rather than expect their child to be responsible and be on time.
What is interesting is that Ralston checked with other schools in the area and found that the other schools didn’t have such a problem as Ralston does.
I have one niece who got caught in the sweep first hour, and now makes a point to get to school on time every day. She doesn’t want to be in that situation ever again. I also have another niece who got caught in the sweep a number of times, and it never changed her behavior. It goes back to the parents and what they expect their child to be responsible for.

Good point. I think Mongo just wondered if the time was not being used in the best interest of learning. 5 seconds is one thing 5 minutes late is another.
Wonder why they are having such a problem at that one school?
Thanks for the input.

Oh, and another thing…the doors do not remain locked for the duration of the class. It is so that students don’t “sneak” in. The idea is to get the kids to arrive BEFORE the bell rings, not after.
Class begins when the bell rings, not 5 minutes after.

I better refresh before I send another comment.

Jesus Patch let me answer.
The story I saw made it sound like they were slamming the door on kids 5-10 seconds late and I did think that was a little much. We can hammer our kids to be responsible but we need to remember they are kids and they do chat and flirt etc.
But if whatyou say is true then it makes sense. What’s the schools policy on tardys with the No Child Left Behind mandate?
I guess if they had a policy that made the parents have to come up to school and talk to the principal after 2-3 tardys to class that might nip it in the ass as well.

Oh Mongo…you were so kind to me a few days ago…let’s not go there. Apples to Apples please.
I think I asked that question as well, concerning the “No Child Left Behind”. I’ll have to find out, and let you know. I can’t remember…but they do have an “alternative school” and an “alternative, alternative school” all in the same building.

I was being sarcastic….Figure youd know that by now.
Is that anything like having Cub Scout Meetings at the State Pen?

Can we find an editor
Comment by Flounder — February 28, 2008 @ 1:04 pm
An editor, and editor, my kingdom for an editor…. well at least an old speedo.
I am not for locking them out of class. Fire codes…. if the doors have crash bars from the inside, they might be one-way locable making them fire code tolerant. I believe it was “The Santa Clause 2″ when Steve Calvin (Santa Clause) said, “Can’t we find a way of punishing them that doesn’t take them out of school?” Wise words.

Care to comment on LB844 (introduced by Wilber Sen. Karpisek), a bill hoping to fill our already cozy jails with non-violent potheads?
Comment by db — February 28, 2008 @ 2:54 pm
What about the incredibly violent stoners… what should we do with… nevermind. I have never met a stoner that had enough energy to be violent.
Comment by Captain Obvious — February 28, 2008 @ 3:23 pm
db,
I haven’t read the bill… enlighten me… You see we Capitalist Pigs see supply and demand. It is currently an illegal drug and the drug trade involves a lot of violent crime… I am sure that their thinking is that if you destroy the demand, the suppliers will have no reason to supply. If you don’t squelch the demand, you can go after the supply but someone else will step in to provide the supply.
So aside from legalizing, how do you think this problem would be best dealt with? Also I have seen what 25 years of daily pot smoking does to a person, I am not saying that it is worse than other substances but the result is not good. Before someone says it, no it does not make you wear a Speedo and cape!

No but it might make you put on a miniskirt and get on a plane.

* possession of more than 1 ounce of marijuana would be reclassified from a Class IIIA misdemeanor, which carries a $500 fine and up to 7 days in jail, to a Class II misdemeanor, which carries a $1,000 fine and up to six months in jail;
* possession of up to 1 ounce of marijuana would be reclassified from an infraction and a $100 fine for a first offense, to a Class III misdemeanor, which carries a $500 fine and up to three months in jail; and
* possession of marijuana paraphernalia would be reclassified from an infraction to a Class IIIA misdemeanor.
The bill also would allow judges to require convicted individuals to attend a class on the effects of drug use.
Karpisek indicated that the purpose of the bill is to discourage marijuana use among young people. “Marijuana is at least as dangerous a drug to our youth as alcohol, yet we do not treat it the same,” he said.
If passed, the changes in LB844 would treat a first offense for possessing up to one ounce of marijuana the same as a minor in possession of alcohol. Under current law, a minor in possession of alcohol is guilty of a Class III misdemeanor punishable with a $500 fine, a maximum three months in jail, or both.
“At least as dangerous as alcohol”? Look… you get drunk and drive a car, the worst that can happen is you ram your car into a bus full of young children, driven by nuns, toppling it over a bridge where it lands on several young puppies and one sweet old man. Generally speaking, when people get behind the wheel after smoking pot, the worst that happens is they end up in Iowa. Which does totally suck, but really, “at least as dangerous as alcohol” is bullshit. Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, there are complete asshole potheads, but do we really need to fill up our (already tightly packed) jails with nonviolent offenders? People who broke the law by toking up instead of by racking up their 5th drunk driving offense or beating up their wife or whatever?
Oooh, look who gets ranty when she’s at the end of a long work shift full of far too much lousy coffee!
P.S. I love you all.

db you rock.
Wait till Mark Walsh gets his way and we are filling jails with people sneaking a cig in the privacy of their own home or driving their car or walking on a sidewalk.
I have seen the effects of to much pot smoking as well, have you met my friend Flounder…yeah he used to be a Reagan man but after some good Gold poof…he is watching CNN while working out to Jane Fonda tapes.
But then there is the exception. Look at mamma Pot head teaching her 4 year old to take a hit. Somewhere there has to be a happy medium.

Um so db, I have to ask. Why so concerned?… ok that was because I am a smart ass. You do rock! It is kind of fun when you get all cranky. While I have no problem with the five leafed friend being a controled substance, but it would appear that this is feel good legislation. Can’t they think of better ways to spend our money?
Much like our federal governemnt. We have huge mortgage issues, our economy is sagging, we are using up fossil fuel like it’s going out of style. What are these bozo’s doing? They are investigating steroid use in Major League Baseball. What a joke. Can we dock their pay for being stupid? Are Cheech and Chong in charge on Capital Hill?
I agree with Mongder, happy medium… aren’t we there? Sounds like I should have singned in as Captain Floundvious.
Make it legal - Trail em nail em and jail em. Oh I am so confused….
btw… after my ranting this week (about you know what) I nominate myself for CFM of the week. George Costanza, “Nobody’s a bigger idiot than me.” Seconds?
