Looks like the No-K Coral is open and ready for business this year.

Over the weekend 3 people were shot and killed in the area, raising the murder count in Omaha to 11.

41 year old Abel Alvarado was found shot in the head in the 2000 block of North 11th. His wife said he was fixing a truck for someone at the time he was shot.

Saturday morning the body of Jeffery Snoddy was discovered in a house near 24th and Himbaugh.

And Sunday police answered a call of shot fired near 29th and Camden but when they arrived they found no victims. A short time later two teens were brought into Creighton Medical Center where 19 year old Percy Walker died from his injuries and 17 year old Marvell Minor was treated and released.

Police are still investigating all 3 shootings.

A two alarm fire Saturday at the Beacon Hill Apartment Complex has left 40 people homeless and destroyed 3 buildings. The cause of the fire is under investigation however high winds fueled the fire and caused it to travel to neighboring buildings.

A State Patrol officer was attempting to make a traffic stop near 70th and Western just after midnight Saturday when the driver hit the brakes suddenly and the troopers car rear ended the vehicle. The driver then jumped from the car, tossed a gun and ran. He was arrested a short time later and police also discovered drugs in the car as well as a passenger who didn’t flee.

03.28.08 Friday Mongo’s Edition Cuz Govig’s Going To Prison

Filed under: Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, New Stadium in Omaha, Omaha, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 6:02 am

Far be it from me to say “See I told you so”, but See I told you so:

Mike Govig pleads guilty to the Child Porn charges and works a deal to get 5 years in the pen followed by 5 years of supervised release.

The former Creighton and Papillion La-Vista softball coach entered his plea in Federal Court and will formally be sentenced in June. ICE agents raided his house and discovered 560 images and 35 videos of child porn, some involving girls as young as 6 performing sex acts. And to think a slug of you called me names after I wrote the Coach Pervert post. “Wait till the whole story gets out, you’ll see what a great guy he is”. Yep we’re seeing it.

Police have arrested a 44 year old day care provider and a 28 year old woman who wasn’t an employee but was left to supervise the children and charged them with child neglect and providing false information to police. A 53 year old employee was also charged with giving false information as well. The charges stem from the case where the 7 month old boy was returned home with broken legs, a broken arm, bite marks on his face and bruises on his body. The day care workers blamed an 8 year old child on the injuries at the ABC daycare. Department of Health and Human Services has shut down the facility. No word on if the 8 year old was responsible or if anything is being done about it.

Here is one everyone will love. State Lawmakers are debating a gas tax increase. Pour it on guys, it isn’t like were aren’t taxed to death as it is. Right now the gas tax is at 23 cents a gallon rising to 25.5 in July. Lawmakers want to take it to 30 cents to pay for road work. The Governor thinks it’s high enough. I think OPS gave lessons down in Lincoln in “Never meet a tax hike you don’t like”.

Some Omaha residents are still waiting for State Farm to be a good neighbor and pay on a claim after a mud slide last spring made one house unfit to live and has now claimed another. Last spring you may remember the video on TV of the deck being torn off the house as the ground below slide away. That man is STILL making payments on a $150,000 house he can’t live in while he and his family live in his moms basement. Now the neighbors house has been deemed unfit for habitation by city inspectors. State Farm officials say they are working hard on a solution but it is a complicated situation. Here is how complicated it is for the common person. The houses were built in a bad location on unstable ground by the developer that you insure for such cases. The ground gave way and the house are unusable. CUT THE CHECKS. A year is long enough to figure this out.

Good news in the story about the Michigan couple that had their pickup stolen from in front of their hotel while here awaiting a transplant. The truck has been located in the impound lot. No word on how it got there (I bet it was either the mad tower from mid-town or the guy that towed the car with the kids inside) however word is that it will be returned to them quickly. Offers of helped for the couple poured in from all over town.

And the Muppet and MECA are still duking it out over the plans for a new Baseball Stadium however word is that the disagreements are not deal breakers. However overnight a drunk driver took out a concrete planter that appeared to be near home plate, ok it was up the street a bit but a fine piece of driving.

Everyone have a good weekend. If your looking for something to do Saturday night you can take in the High School Championship game between Prep Blue and Lincoln East at 7 p.m. Moylan Ice Complex or you can lay on the couch scratching your ass watching basketball like 50 % of everyone else around. But at least we offer choices.

Where do we start….

Old news from yesterday, The State Legislators rejected a bill to abolish the Death Penalty by a 28-20 vote. Now they just have to find a form of execution that will pass State Supreme Court muster. Maybe we could just give them all a steady diet of fast food and cigarettes.

Scott Kleeb will have to campaign from the passenger seat after loosing his drivers license on points. Kleeb received his 6th ticket in 22 months and will not be eligible to reapply for his license until September 5th.

Roy Ellis is reported to be under segregated lock-down at the Douglas County Correction Center after threatening a female guard. He is reported to be restrained and only get out of his cell one hour a day.

Ellis is awaiting trial in the Amber Harris murder case.

A woman is indicted on 6 counts of making and possessing forged securities of an organization and 10 counts of money laundering after she allegedly stole $759,000 from Central Sign Company from 2002-2007. The money was used to purchase such things and an RV and to pay off restitution for a previous criminal offense. How the hell do you not miss 150k a year leaving your company unaccounted for. Please tell us who the accounting firm over at Central is so we can all be sure not to use them if it took 5 years to catch this.

A pitbull attacked a 75 year old man out walking and then later charges an animal control officer when police shot it. The 19 year old owner of the dog and 2 other pitbulls “Don’t know how they got out” of the house at 38th and Corby. The man suffered a beep bite to his arm and was able to get help from neighbors. The woman was sited for harboring a dangerous animal. Oh but they are so cute and great dogs…………yeah Ok.

MECA officials sent back Muppet Mikes stadium plan saying that it wasn’t the same plan they had agreed on Monday. Some MECA members say the plan changes total direction and no longer addresses parking and traffic issues. The Muppet was unavailable for comment until sometime today. Get the feeling he never would have been a guest on “Who do you trust”.

A Michigan couple living in a motel while the woman awaits a transplant awoke to find their truck and only form of transportation had been stolen. The truck, a 1997 Chevy Silverado extended cab with a topper and bronze running boards bearing Michigan license plates was parked outside their motel room. Police are asking for any information on the truck. I know you all don’t snitch but in this case, rat out the dumb-ass that took the truck, who knows they could end up being an organ donor as well.

And the leading candidate for Dumb Fuck of the day (This was to good to just be an ass) is the employee of the River City Star Riverboat who was too lazy to drag a 55 gallon drum ,filled with an oil water mix, up the hill and take it to the reclamation center so he dumped it in the Missouri River creating gasoline smelling oil slick that ran from Ricks Boatyard to Ameristar. The EPA and state officials are looking into charges. A couple walking their dog spotted the mess and alerted the fire department. The owner of the River City Star was unaware the employee was dumping the mix. Funny you would think they would be referred to as “former employee” wouldn’t you. HR must not have the paperwork yet.

And in sports, Huskers  Huskers Huskers Pelini  Huskers Huskers Huskers…..yep spring football started……..

Like the dissertation of the Unibomber, Terry Sellers read from a rambling 5 page letter before he was sentenced in the two murders and one attempted murder of 3 Omaha men.

As Sellers read his statement families of the victims scoffed at him. He blamed bad attorneys, corrupt prosecutors and a racist jury pool for his conviction. The same man who early in the trial looked at the families and said “Sorry you had to be here” now wanted to act like he played no part in the murders.

The Judge handed down a sentence of 2 counts of life without parole plus 50 years each on the murder charges and 80-100 years for use of a gun, attempted murder. Maybe Terry can perfect his writing skills while he rots away.

OPS is looking into a study on school uniforms after a report on how much time principals waste dealing with inappropriate clothing.  The item wasn’t acted upon and just came up in discussion. Board President Sandra “I never met a buzzword I didn’t like” Jensen said “We will have to engage our parent groups, and the students on this issue.” Board member Bambi Bartek then shouted “Bingo” (The winning word in buzzword bingo was ENGAGE) then stated the district needed to spell out a list for the parents as to what is and isn’t acceptable. So much for common sense. Bambi, that is your real name isn’t it? Bambi let us spell it out. If the top of a teenage girls thong sticks out over the low rise waist and she has more cleavage than Elvira….inappropriate…..If a boys pants hang past his ass crack and his shirt reads “Don’t hate me because I did your mom”…inappropriate. Or if you look at your kid getting ready for school and feel the urge to call the cops because hookers and gang bangers have taken over your bathroom, it might be time for a wardrobe change.

3 men were arrested for graffiti charges after the police helicopter spotted them tagging the 24th and Martha viaduct. The men ages 19,20 and 16 were arrested for destruction of property, graffiti, trespassing and misspelling.

Two men are safe after a wave hit their boat and flipped it over on Lake Manawa (Indian word for stay off the icy lake idiots). The men were rescued and taken to Creighton Medical Center Trauma unit in critical condition. The boat was not found but the cooler of Bush Light was rescued .

And David Horvath admitted in court to threatening a neighbor girl who made a derogatory comment about the Westroads shooter on the Internet. Horvath had sent the girl a message saying “If you say another word about Robbie I’ll put a cap in your ass.” Horvath will be sentenced in about 4 weeks in Juvenile Court.

The recall effort group will have 3 locations to sign the petitions to recall Muppet Mike. Organizers will be at Rosenblatt Stadium, Memorial Park and The Eagles Nest in Elkhorn plus going door to door in an effort to collect the 21,000 signatures needed to force the recall effort.

Police are investigating a pair of reported shootings in the No-K Coral.

A black SUV was found with multiple bullet holes in it near 40th and Binney. A victim of the shooting was later located at Creighton Medical Center with gunshot wounds.

Later a call came in about shots fired and a shooting victim in the neighborhood of 42nd an Wirt but police were unable to locate the victim.

The 6 NCAA Tournament games played Thursday and Saturday at the Qwest Center were hailed as a huge success for the city and local businesses.  Downtown bars and restaurants reported a steady flow of patrons from both in and out of town.

Omaha hopes the great showing will bring the tournament back again. The next open dates are in 2011.

An Omaha man was arressted  and could be charged with felony pet neglect after neighbors reported his dog lying dead in his back yard. The Pit bull was left outside in February with no food ,water or shelter while the man left town. The dog starved to death and suffered from hypothermia. Any way to tie this guy to a pole in the back yard for a few weeks without food?

Tuesday debate will begin in Lincoln on LB1063, the bill to abolish the Death Penalty in Nebraska.

The Nebraska Supreme Court, legislating from the bench, ruled that the form of execution in Nebraska was cruel and inhuman (so is listening to some of the Senators down there), so currently Nebraska has no form of carrying out the sentence.

Ernest vows to block any efforts to change it to lethal injection while he is in office.

Governor Dave Heineman said he will veto any bill abolishing the Death Penalty should it reach his desk and it is doubtful supporters of 1063 will be able to get the 30 votes to override the veto.

Nebraskans strongly favor the Death Penalty.

Sorry I stink at the daily updates. Bugs and Mongo will be in later.

A young mother was horrified when her child was brought home from day care yesterday. The child had suffered 3 broken limbs, bit to the face and fluid built up on the lungs requiring him to be put on a ventilator. The mother noticed the bruises on the 8 month olds face and a leg “sticking out” and called the day care provider who told the mother “Didn’t nobody do nothing to your baby. Nothing happened to him.”

Investigators say the provider first picked up the boy and took him to a home child care near 125th and Spencer, where he should have been taken. However later she took him to one of her other day cares at 30th and Emmett where she left him in the care of an unapproved staffer for at least 40 minutes. Children interviewed said they saw an 8 year old injuring the baby and no adults in the room at the time. The unapproved staffer said she heard the baby scream and saw the 8 year old holding it. She also observed swelling and injury but neither her nor the day care provider told the mother about it.

Health and Human Services has issued an Emergency License Suspension for the day care.

How do you not inform the mother of the child injuries? And lets hope someone is looking into the 8 year old. Sounds like he has a few marbles out of the bag rolling around.

Ameristar officials say a smoking ban that included casinos would derail a $100 million expansion project at the Council Bluffs Casino. Studies show such a ban has a marked drop off in casino business.  The project would double the gaming floor at Ameristar and provide 150 jobs not to mention the construction jobs building the facility.

A chunk of concrete has falling off a bridge over the trail at 84th and Grover and City Parks Officials have closed the trail till a Bridge Rehabilitation Project has been completed. Bridge Rehab? Do they have to take it to O’Neil for that?

Public Works Director Bob Stubbe said “The bridge is 30 years old and needs a new deck and beams but it is safe to drive on.” New deck and beams? So what safe part are we driving on there Bob. Re-bar and Rivet’s? 39,000 cars cross the bridge daily.

Police have cited a man for groping a woman at a Papillion Wal-Mart. Tips led police to a 57 year old Omaha man who was ticketed for disturbing the peace.

03.20.08 March Madness in the Metro

Filed under: Creighton, Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 5:46 am

Another chance for Omaha to put it’s best foot forward, March Madness strikes at 11:30. With fans pouring in from around the country it is another chance for us to shed our country bumpkin image and put on a show. The NCAA makes the inside of the arena generic but we can make everyone feel welcome and give that extra effort to show them what a great little city we live in.

So much for our PSA message. The Huskers dumped Charlotte 67-48 last night in first round NIT action at the Devaney Center. Next up they get Ole Miss. Creighton will pair up against Florida on Friday.

A woman shopping at the 72nd and Giles Wal-Mart around 11 p.m. was inappropriately touched by some pervert wandering the aisles. The woman said she was looking at some items when the man pressed p against her from behind and asked her if she was “looking for a good time tonight”. The woman ran to a clerk for help who then put out a store alert but the man managed to sneak past the 150 year old door greeter and exited the building.

Warren Buffett has lowered himself to a low point once again. He is scheduled to appear on ABC’s All My Children in May. According to the press release Buffet plays himself and the story line has him being enlisted to come to Pine Valley to help get Erika Kane out of jail and out of some fraud charges. Erika, after the charges are dismissed, moves to Omaha and runs for Mayor. Ok we made that part up but with the soap opera down at city hall it was plausible.

The recent shooting of a known gang member who drew a gun and pointed it at a police officer has brought something to light once agian. We have mad comment on the how fast the friends and family of the thug who was shot claim he was an innocent victim. One disturbing thing is how certain media outlets stir up the controversy and maybe place the officers life in danger in the future by just the tone of their headlines.

KMTV Channel 3 used the headline “Deadly Officer Involved in Shooting”. Was the term deadly really necessary or did they just to to incite the residents of the Officers District. The Officer works in the most dangerous area of the Metro and is up against gang members daily. Lets keep in mind that the first person he shot had shot and killed a fellow officer. This gang banger was pointing a gun at another one.

Maybe KMTV can run the headline “Family of Gang Member Failed to Raise Child in an Environment with Discipline to Keep Him Out of Harms Way”.

That’s all for now, slow news day which is a good thing with all the company we have in town.

Say what you want about the NIT, say it was an off year for the Blue Jay’s but last nights game was one fantastic event to watch. Shame on you people who left when the Jay’s were down by 17. Never count Dana Altman out. Creighton came roaring back and beat Rhode Island 74-73 on a Cavel Witter 3 pointer with 3 seconds left.

An accidental shooting at a home near 42nd and Burdette has left on youth in the hospital and the other at the Juvenile Detention Facility. Apparently on of the youths was playing with a loaded gun and shot the other one. He was booked for felony assault and possession of a stolen firearm.

A window was shot out of a room in the Kiewit  Residence Hall at Creighton. It appears to be a random act of stupidity as a call came in about shot fired near 31st and Dodge around the same time. With the poor aim of our cities gang members its a wonder more innocent people don’t get shot a half a mile away.

HUD has given the Omaha Housing Authority permission to demolish the Pleasantview Apartments at 30th and Parker. If you read the news you know this is pretty close to ground zero in the NO-K Coral with it being the location of several shootings.

Residents will re relocated to a HUD house near you in an effort to spread the shootings around town and throw off the crime stats.

Family members of the man shot by police after he pointed a gun at them claim he wasn’t a gang member. Apparently he and his 2 other friends were out delivering milk and cookies to the elderly when their car was pulled over.

The City Council is on board for the demolition of the former Pinnacle Foods Plant at 10th and Capitol. The plant has been shuttered for some time and the City purchased the property for 2.5 million after a private party put in a bid and the City feared they would tear down the plant and build a parking lot. The city now plans to build a parking lot to make up for the lost stalls at the location of the new baseball stadium.

Several Council Members said that this in no way means they will vote in favor of the new stadium but that the plant needs to be torn down as it is a safety hazard and an eyesore.

Also the Council voted unanimously to deny a permit for a social club at 28th and Sprague to a Motorcycle Club that calls itself the 402 Boyz. A club representative said they wanted to use the building for meetings, social functions, and charity work however police have said that the 402’s have been the source of the problem at the location and at a previous location. Must be the pick up spot for the milk and cookies for the elderly.

And a study shows that worker productivity dips during March Madness as workers pour over bracket sheets and attempt to watch games secretly on the Internet.

In keeping with the study and the fact that there are games here in town, let it be known that our productivity here will be limited the next few days as some of us, not to brag, will be attending the games. Mongo has offered to keep an eye on things for us when he isn’t out keying our cars in the parking garage. We tried to explain we didn’t know him when we purchased the tickets or we would have included him.

Some quick news for the Youth Hockey crowd.

First, O.M.A.H.A. has announced John Thomas as the new Coaching Director. Some of you may remember John from his playing days as a Lancer and Mav. Some of you may know him as well from over at Complete Hockey.  John has been around hockey all his life and is a great person to be around.

Here is our vote for a fantastic choice on the Boards part. John has some great things to offer our kids and Coaches.

The Annual Meeting is Scheduled for Monday April 21st 2008 at the Marriott Regency. 6-10 p.m.

Board of Directors Positions open for Election are

President

Secretary

also  a special election will be held per the By-Laws to re-elect two positions that were vacated in their first year of term.

Vice President (Risk and Rules)

Treasurer

For job descriptions please see the announcement at www.omahahockey.net

If you plan on running for a spot please look over what is expected and make the commitment to the position. Don’t just run for a spot because your sick of 6 a.m. ice and your gonna stop it. In other words, do it for all the kids not just your own.

As said before, if you want to declare your candidacy and wish to post your platform and objectives you can email us at HockeyHighlights@Hotmail.com and we will give you free space to do so.

It would be nice if people would do this instead of attempting to nominate from the floor at the last minute in an effort to take control of the organization for their own selfish purposes. But that’s just our opinion.

Remember you can’t bitch if you don’t vote so get to the meeting.

The officer that shot the known gang member when he exited the car and aimed his gun at another officer, has been involved in a shooting before.

Officer Platt, a five year member of the force, shot and killed (not gunned down as KMTV called it last night) Albert Rucker after Rucker had shot Officer Ty Pratt.

In this incident. Officers had pulled over a car for running a stop sign. One Officer was at the drivers door, one on the passenger side and Officer Platt at the rear. Platt saw the suspect had a gun and announced “gun, gun, gun”. That is when the suspect exited the car and aimed the weapon at another officer.

The mother of the victim wants answers as to why her son was shot. Here is your answer mom. At 17 he was doing crack cocaine, running with a gang and aimed a gun at a Police Officer. Being a law abiding citizen doesn’t get you shot, being a thug usually does. If he were shot by an officer during a Boy Scout outing you might have a case.

I’m sure he was turning his life around as well. Maybe when he was shot the first time that would have taught him something. Wait, he stopped going to school, he knew everything.

Mom you weren’t worried about him for 17 years, now is not the time to start.

Police were busy around town yesterday. An Officer needs help call went out around 4:30 when a large number of youths showed up for a fight at Turner Park. One of the men hit a car with a ball bat as it attempted to leave so the car ran him over the got stuck on the dumpster it tried to run over as well. No word on what the fight was about.

Police made their first DUI arrest at 7:20 a.m. and then the day of fun and festivities continued.

They were called to the Qwik Trip at Saddle Creek and Leavenworth for a disturbance. When the arrived the van involved was leaving so Officers followed it to 46th and Leavenworth where it stopped. When officers got out the van backed up and struck the cruiser and ran over one officers foot. The driver was arrested for felony assault on  an officer, criminal mischief and DUI. The passenger was arrested for being a dumb-ass in the company of a bigger dumb-ass.

Police were also called to an unnamed nightclub at 114th and Dodge to help break up a fight around midnight. How do they keep the name of the club out of the news?

And our top candidate for dumb-ass of the day comes to us from Bellevue.

Marvin Machado,31, hit another car with his truck then fled the scene. Police pulled him over on Chandler road where Marvin gets out of the car , rips his shirt off and confronts officers. Nothing like providing a clean canvas with which to aim at, the officers used the portable bug zapper and hit him with a Taser.

Here is what Marv faces:

3rd Offense DUI

Reckless Driving

Leaving the scene of an accident

Flight to avoid arrest

Resisting arrest

Refusing a chemical test

Possession of marijuana

Possession of drug paraphernalia

Obstructing an officer

Driving left of center

Running a stop sign

Open Container

No Insurance (go figure)

The forgot to charge him with being a complete fucking moron but there is still time.

The Westside School Board addressed it’s policies on bullying at last night Board Meeting where they introduced the new Superintendent.

Board member defended the districts policies or lack there of (There is NO Zero tolerance policy in District 66) and new Superintendent Jacquie Estee told attendees to expect more of the same. Kool-Aid for everyone.

Almost forgot…Creighton vs Rhode Island tonight in the NIT. What a way to warm up the Qwest for NCAA Thursday. Everyone needs to show up and rock the house and show the early arrivals how this town supports events like this.

And lets not see any empty seats for this weeks NCAA games like in other parts of the country. If you got tickets, use them for all the games or get them to people who will but lets not have a half filled barn on National TV.

Knock Knock Knocking on My Email’s Door (Sorry Bob Dylan)

Filed under: Mongo Torrey, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 7:40 pm

Ahhh Spring is in the air, Easter is next weekend, March Madness starts this week, life is good.

But no, I rolled back the rock on an email and find  “They’re BAAAACCCCCKKK”

Yes for the mere cost of $135 for 9 weeks you can send your kid to religious indoctrination classes disguised as a hockey camp. (Space limited to 20 youth souls to save, the rest of you better  buy some fire suits). Spiritual guidance delivered by our favorite note passer who seems to be playing both sides of the hockey fence. (What were you doing at the Gladiator Board Meeting? Practicing your note passing skills in preparation for the O.M.A.H.A. election?)

OK I know I am offending some people with this but I am trying to make a point.

Stop pushing your Bible Beating Beliefs on the rest of us. We are happy you have been saved, now keep an eye on your kids and let us worry about ours. You don’t see Pastor Rocko from over at the Church of “Shut the Fuck up the game is on” running a summer camp on the proper way to par-lay do you. NO. But if you want us to we could and I guessing our camp would be more fun, at least while the college fund held out.

And stop trying to convince me your god is better than my god. Sure, yours fed a village with a loaf of bread and a few fish, rose from the dead and didn’t scare the shit out of everyone when he did it.

Yeah well Frank “Lefty”Rosenthal once picked 172 winners in a row, including the over/under and the spread. I’m going with the guy who puts the BWM 740 IL under my ass. No offense.

I know you have a good organization but give it a rest, it does not make you better than everyone else. Besides the Snake Charming your way to better stick handling class sounds kind of disturbing.

And can someone tell me exactly what the next level is? Everyone says they can move your kids game there. Where is it so I can see if we want to be in that neighborhood.

Ok enough said on my part other than if you want to continue to blanket email your recruiting tour ,my church will have no choice but to start a clinic of our own.

Mongo and Pastor Rocko’s Intimidating your way to better Hockey. Space is limited to the number of kids who’s parents are willing to shell out $150 bucks to get rid of their kids once a week. Our goals and objectives:

Teach you to be able to make enough booking High School Football games to pay for Prom.

How to layoff large money bets so as to not loose your ass if the whale actually hits.

 Improving your money collection skills

Practicing not leaving marks with your stick. (see collection skills)

And one lucky camp member will win a trip for two to see and tour the Sports Book at the fabulous Mirage Hotel in Vegas .

Now who’s camp sounds more fun. The Moral Majority’s or Mongo’s?

Now, when do we go golfing with god again? I think I have the perfect foursome for this year.

Happy Drunken beer fest for no real reason because most are not Irish day.

Investigators are on the scene of an officer involved shooting at 31st and Larimore. Last night around ten an Omaha Police Officer was making a routine traffic stop and became involved in a fatal shooting.

Police say 17 year old Javon Reid stepped from the car and drew a weapon and pointed it at officers who shot him. It was clear if Reid got a shot off yet. There were two other known gang members in the rental car with Reid and a bag of crack cocaine was found in the vehicle.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Alcohol and speed seem to be factors in the accident that sent an 18 year old woman to the hospital over the weekend. She was ticketed for reckless driving and DUI after she was driving Northbound in the Southbound lanes of 132nd Street near California and hit a wooden power pole. She was not wearing a seat-belt and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to extract her from the car.

Authorities have released the name of the man found shot to death on the Parker Street overpass. He is 24 year old Nathan J. “Speedy” Blanks. Speedy had a criminal history though not a violent one and it seems 30th Street in this area is a bad location for any of his family members. He had an Uncle shot and killed just blocks away back in “04″ and 20 years ago he had another Uncle killed just blocks away as well.

Police are still looking for a suspect and motive.

Hot ticket this weekend is NCAA Regional action at the Qwest.

8 team headed to Omaha are:

Kansas, Portland State, UNLV, Kent State,USC,Kansas State,Wisconsin and Cal State Fullerton. Now lets see how many stupid College World Series questions and lead in’s our local media can come up with when covering this event.

Congratulations to the Jr. Lancers U-16 team. They earned a spot to Nationals over the weekend with an outstanding performance in the Central States Tournament at the Moylan Ice Plex.

A quick note to the other Youth Travel Teams as your seasons wind down. Please get any updates you want posted to your team pages to us A.S.A.P.  We are planning to start deleting any inactive pages  in the next few weeks. Thanks to all the people who kept us updated during the season.

Now not to sound like your mom but everyone take it easy out there today and don’t over indulge on the corned beef and cabbage at lunch. If your planning on going out and have one too many green beers, please call for a cab. We want you back here tomorrow reading not being written about.

03.15.08 Weekend Edition Saturday

Filed under: O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 10:46 am

Just a quick weekend update here…

Police have released a composite sketch of a possible suspect in the Dundee murders of an 11 year old child and the family housekeeper. Neighbors recall seeing a dark haired man with a black coat and briefcase being let in the home around 3:20 p.m.. No motive in the slayings has been released.

The stabbing death of a 40 year old Neola Iowa man appears to be over a set of tires and rims removed from the mans truck by a neighbor. The man reportedly went to the other mans house to confront him and was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife.

A woman who allowed some high school students to pass beer between a school van and a moving car along Highway 2 has been fined $750. We will have more editorial comment on this later.

UNO got bitchslapped by the weasels. Michigan clobbered the Mav’s 10-1 last night to take a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 series.

The Lancers fell to Waterloo 5-3

Nebraska was 1 and done in the Big 12 Tournament, falling to Kansas 64-54.

And if your looking for some good quality hockey action to take your kids to, The Central States Tournament is going on all weekend at the Moylan Ice Complex, 120th and Maple. A couple of us are out here now taking in some of the games and it is a first class show being put on by the O.M.A.H.A. folks and the rink. Extra food vendors are on hand.  Great apparel sale by a company making custom t-shirts and sweatshirts while you wait (Some great hockey parent shirts available). If you have kids who play this is a great chance to get them out and see a really high level of travel hockey. Again excellent showing and great job putting this together. We are hearing lots of compliments from visiting attendees.

More later…thanks to free wireless………….

03.14.08 Mongo’s Friday Edition

Filed under: Huskers, Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 7:05 am

Omaha police were called to the home of two prominent Creighton Doctors after the bodies of a woman and child were discovered inside.

The home of Doctors Claire and William Hunter III sits near 54th and Dodge. Claire is said to be out of town and William is not a suspect. Police are sketchy on details but say neighbors have nothing to worry about.

More on this later as details develop.

Stu Dornan actually broke out the “lead poisoning” defense in an effort to get his client, Mary Likely’s case moved to Juvenile Court where she can get “help and treatment for her ailment”.

Likely and two other girls are accused of dragging a woman from her car near 25th and Corby, tossing her 9 month old to the curb and stealing the car.

One of the other suspects, Uniquea Davis, has had her case moved to Juvenile Court already.

Randolph City Iowa, population 208 and 200 ferile cats, has taken away it’s cat bounty after the phone has rang off the hook from kitty lover who can’t believe everyone doesn’t want enjoy the strays hanging out begging for food.

The bounty was to be paid for any cat trapped and brought to the Mayor. Any unclaimed cats were to be euthanized.

Now thanks to several cat rescue groups, the cats will be trapped, spayed or neutered then released back to the wild where sweet little Tabby can live the peaceful life of running from a coyote or other really wild animal to avoid being ripped to shreds or run over by a semi trailer. Bet you feral cat lovers never think of that stuff do you?

Well the saying goes “Never bring a knife to a gun fight” but someone brought a knife to a bat fight in Neola Iowa and now one man is dead and the other is in custody. Police are not releasing the names of the two men involve at this time.

Sharman Dortch was sentenced to 3-5 years for felony child abuse in the scalding of his 4 month old son. The child received 2nd degree burns over 22% of his body. With time served this guy could be out in less than a year.

Husker football player Andy Christensen was formally charged with 1st degree sexual assault of a woman outside a Lincoln bar. Andy’s bail was reduced from $500,000 to $300,000 and 10% of that was put up by his family who will be reimbursed to $20,000 reduction.

This case should be fun to watch just on accusations alone. Looking at average docket time in Lancaster County with discovery..wow just in time for football season…Nice work getting your name out there Andy. Bet his new team nickname is “Stink finger”. Dumbass….

And with that I’m outa here…Have a good weekend everyone.

03.13.08 Thursday

It may not be a smoldering gun but it was definitely fired recently.

A spokesperson from the NCAA stated yesterday that “Omaha doesn’t need to build a new stadium in order to keep the College World Series.”  A letter dated 2.12.08 sent to Jack Diesing offered a long and short term deal on the CWS and made no mention of a new facility.

Wonder why Muppet Mike never showed us this one till after he had unveiled his stadium plan to the NCAA. What was Fahey’s reaction to the letter. “The 2011 College World Series will be played in a new stadium, Omaha or elsewhere”.

A defense of the Mayors administration was released in answer to the recall petitions. They claim

Fahey has not raised the property tax rate.

Prioritized public safety ( Tell the folks that live in the No-K Coral district that)

Strengthened our Neighborhoods (That must be the Mayors message written in graffiti)

Improved our local economy.

Petitions go out today, organizers have 30 days to collect 22,000 signatures to force a recall election. Wonder if they plan to set up a booth in downtown Elkhorn?

Husker lineman Andy Christensen is out on bail. Nobody knows who put up the $50k (10% of the $500,000 bail set). Let’s hope Lancaster County Judge Jeffre Cheuvront doesn’t draw this case.

Former Hamberg Ia. Mayor Clarence Judy was cited for allowing an underage girl to dance nude in his Juice Club last summer. The girl,17, is also the niece of the Fremont County Sheriff. Terry Rutledge the former owner of Shotgun Geniez and currant manager said employee’s of the club did not know she was under age and she was under the influence of alcohol when she arrived. The club sells no booze. The Sheriff says his sister in law and her husband are not impressed at all with Judy or Rutledge. I’d think they would be less impressed with their 17 year old daughter. Hamberg, thats Iowegian for RULO.

Councilman Jim Suttle wants to clarify a grey area by allowing minors into music venues that sell alcohol an hour before and an hour after a concert is performed there. The measure is meeting opposition from Project Extra Mile. Right now city law says minors may not be in bars unless accompanied by a parent. Exclusions for employee’s and types of establishments are written into the currant law. Suttle wants places like the Slowdown and the Waiting Room to be able to allow the 18-21 crowd and provide something for that group as entertainment.

More later, work calls………………..

03.12.08 Wednesday Late Edition

Sorry, work came first this morning.

Former Plattsmouth resident Tina Murry was sent to the big house for 7 1/2 to 10 years for sexually assaulting a 13 year old daughter of a friend. Murry 28, assaulted the girl while they were watching tv together .

Zoo officials had their hands full when a 10 lb monkey escaped off an island in the Lied Jungle. Nobody was ever in any danger and the monkey returned back to the island after taking some guys lunch and giving Lee Simmons the finger. Who says nobody learns anything on school field trips.

The City Council passed a stiffer graffiti law that raises the penalty to 120 hours of community service and a possible 72 hours in jail. I liked the one guys idea of making them do some clean up in pink jumpsuits.

It also raised the fine for businesses who don’t properly secure their spray paint to prevent shoplifters, from 75 to $150 bucks.

7 Candidates have applied for the Chief of Police position. The Interim Chief, 3 Deputy Chiefs and 3 Captains have submitted their applications. Mayor Landow,Tom Mafisi (Human Resource Director) and William Moulder (Retired Des Moines Chief and Consultant) will review the applications then have Muppet Mike make the announcement in May pending recall.

Muppet Mike also said yesterday that many people were intimidated and did not speak because of the emotion displayed by the Save Rosenblatt contingency. Gee Muppet Mike I didn’t know that if you were against your plan that automatically put you in with the Save Rosenblatt group.

It is being said that if the City Council were to vote now the plan would not pass. The Council has been left out in the dark on the plan just like the rest of us.

An argument between several people leads to  a person being shot near 42nd and Bedford around 5 p.m. yesterday. The man was a bystander who was hit in the leg after shots rang out. Nice weather heats up the No-K coral. It’s going to be a long summer .

That all for now, sorry for such a crappy report… More later

03.11.08 Tuesday

Talk about a town hall meeting full of surprises. The third and final instalment of the Muppet Mike Stadium Extravaganza took place at Westside High School last night to a less than receptive crowd. Several people stood up and asked pointed questions that were sometimes greeted with arrogant answers from a man who is supposed to serve the public.

“You’re always going to have those individuals who don’t look forward into the future.”

Maybe they are looking into the future and they don’t like what they see Muppet Mike. What they see is you and Mayor Landow ramming another project down their throats without giving them a chance to vote on it.

This was the ultimate in passing the buck, after stealing it first I might add,

When asked about property tax increases:

“That’s up to the County Commissioners”

So lets get this right, you take away the County’s Portion of the Keno money then blame them when they have to raise taxes to cover the shortage of funds? Now I understand why they fought you so hard on turning over the purse strings of the Convention and Tourism Grant Money.

It was obvious last night that this administration could care less what the people think or want nor if they have the right to a straight answer.

The NCAA refused to get into the mix after Councilman Jim Vokal asked for some feedback. Their response was they were awaiting the city’s proposal. In other words they never made the demand of a new stadium or if they did it was done in a way of “Build it but don’t blame us or else” however it looks more like “We will help you get it built but we’re not taking the blame for your wanting a new park”.

By the way, your ball-field faces the wrong direction. For $140 million you could at least build it right.

The family of the man shot by Council Bluffs police now claim the man is also bi-polar (waiting to hear if he ate lead paint chis as well) and he was, let’s all say it together, TURNING HIS LIFE AROUND. He was out on parole and according to his daughter had 90 days left. Funny thing is he hadn’t seen his parole officer since Feb 15th and feared going back in the slammer.

Bond was set at $500k for the Nebraska football player accused of sexually assaulting a woman outside a Lincoln bar.

Not to be out done former Husker Mo Purify and former player Carl Nicks got themselves arrested along with current players Ben Martin and Mike Smith after police were called to a party. 75 people were in attendance. The men were ticketed for something called “Maintaining a disorderly house and being an inmate in a disorderly house.”

Over the weekend a 16 year old girl attempted to flee a raid on a party in Ralston and discovered she can’t fly after she jumped from the balcony and ended up in the hospital. Some party too. Police found alcohol, a “white powdery substance”, prescription medications not belonging to the resident nor anyone at the party, oh and a mushroom. 6 other people were ticketed as well.

Papillion police and Human Society officials raided a home to discover over 200 animals living there. 27 birds and 12 wild animals were removed however the rest were allowed to stay. Apparently their visa’s were in order. The animals ranged from Birds, fish, frogs, turtles, chipmunks, mice, rabbits, exotic possums (wonder if they dance) and chickens. Police were acting on an anonymous tip and said the house wasn’t nearly as messy as they would have expected.

And also in Papillion, well he once lived there but now it looks like a bus ride to Leavenworth is in his future, former Papillion resident Steven Sudyka was sentenced to 2-5 years behind federal bars on child porn charges after police found 3000 images on his computer. Steve faced up to 10 years before he pled guilty. Warm up the cot for Govig, Stevie. He should be behind you shortly.

A after an intense 4 hour search last night, the missing 3 year old girl was discovered sleeping in the home of a family friend. Police used the helicopter, horseback patrol, hundreds of volunteers to search for the little girl who had wandered away from her siblings while playing outside her apartment near 96th and Q.

03.10.08 Monday with Bugs and Mongo

Forgive us for being sluggish, combine Daylight Savings with 3 Overtimes for UNO to move on in the Playoffs and we are a little scrambled this morning.

In the longest game in UNO Hockey’s 11 years the Mav’s moved on, winning 2-1 over Alaska after J.P.Platisha netted the winner with 4:22 gone in the 3rd OT. The Mav’s now go to Ann Arbor to face Michigan.

The saddest thing about this game was the crowd. The Qwest looked abandon. It was pick your seat night. I’ve seem more fans at a drop in game at Benson. Ok maybe not that bad but it did look almost as bad as a Royals game. Has the bandwagon finally left and a bunch of so called hockey fans decided to catch the next one?

Hey the football player to screw up in Lincoln under Pelini has shown his face. Police arrested Offensive Lineman Andy Christensen on first degree sexual assault charges after a 23 year old woman said he approached her from behind, reached under her clothes and sexually assaulted her. He was also charges with resisting arrest, and failure to comply.

Pelini suspended him indefinitely pending the investigation. Let’s see how fast the new sheriff gets things under control down there.

The second town hall meeting on the new stadium was held at North High. Jack Diesing Jr hinted that if we don’t build it the NCAA would go elsewhere even though they have never publicly said that. City Councilman Jim Vokal would like to actually hear the NCAA’s voice on the matter saying they should publicly state that we need to build a new stadium to secure the College World Series.

Also it was said there would be no facilities for RV’s at the new stadium. Diesing stated the 80% of the RV’s belonged to local residents anyway and it was the NCAA’s desire to eliminate the tailgating around the park.

Here is a question that people should start asking, who really owns all that stuff going up around the new ballpark location. Like the hush hush group that invested in the Boatyard, people should ask who’s backing a few bars around the Qwest.  The next public forum is tonight at Westside High School.

A Council Bluffs Police Officer answering a call of a suspicious person wandering around the Super Saver on Broadway ended up shooting the man after a short chase in which the man pointed a shotgun at the officer. The officer has been put on paid leave pending an investigation. No details on the mans condition.

And if you didn’t catch it, watch the news for this guys family members to be interviewed. It was like a casting call for Springer.

A group of Omaha Vets rallied around the defaced monument at Heartland of America Park yesterday. The American Legion members called for better lighting and increased security in the area. They also said they put their lives on the line for freedom and now that freedom is being abused. We’re in favor of posting guards at the memorials armed with paintball guns and a secured position.

That’s it for now, more later………………
