The City of Omaha and the Police Union talks have broken down for the second time in weeks and have now reached an impasse. Now the contract negotiations will head to an arbitrator. No word on if Mr Public Safety Dan Welch and former Husker Willie Miller will be part of the arbitration team.

Muppet Mike is scheduled to address the Conference of Mayors Who are Never in Town with an idea the gun owners should be required to report a stolen weapon within 48 hours or face misdemeanor charges. Sounds great on the surface but to be honest, wouldn’t you be a little more worried about the guy who actually checks his gun every day, except for maybe someone who say carries it for work like a Police Officer. I own a couple of self protection devices but to be honest I don’t go have a hug and kiss session with them every day. Just more feel good legislation from The Missing in Action Muppet Mayor.

Wille Miller’s bond was set at $25,000 and he was charged with 2nd degree assault for ramming an off duty police officers Blazer and forcing it to hit a mini van after the officer honked his horn at Miller who was driving carelessly. Miller claims the officer flashed him the Hook em Horns sign and and true Husker would be inclined to take action. Looks like Willie took some of the same classes as Clinton Childs.

A Judge rejects a request from the defense for a delay in the Amber Harris Murder trial saying they have had ample time to prepare. Security it tight at the Court House for this trial. Though I doubt Sam Jackson is hiding in a closet with an M-16 (see A Time to Kill if you don’t get that) it would be safe to say a few of the community would like at least a poke at this perverted murderer.

The Lancers take on Sioux City tonight at the Tyson Events Center then return to the Mac to hopefully close out the best of 5 series Saturday.

And in NCAA Frozen Four action, Notre Dame upset top ranked Michigan 5-4 in overtime last night to secure a spot in the Championship against Boston College who dumped North Dakota 6-1.

Have a great weekend everyone.

  1. Here’s my take on the Report a Gun Law.

Law-abiding ghunnies (like, say, me) ARE going to report it stolen. Heck, I can’t get my insurance to pay for it unless I report it missing.

The criminals, who this bill is supposed to stop, won’t report anything. Who really expects Gangbanger Alpha to call the cops to report his gat be gone.

All this does is add another expense (hotline has to be set up and staffed) and give Muppet Mike’s minions another empty charge to slap on someone they don’t like.

Imagine this scenario: Police visit a law abiding gent from the 30/Lake areas to tell him the gun used in a recent slaying turns out to be his. He says, “Impossible, mine’s locked up in the closet. Here, let me show you…. Crap, where’s the lockbox?”

At this point, how likely are police going to believe this guy didn’t know? Or are they, seeing as he’s mid-20s, black, and living in North O, going to assume he gave the gun to a thug and is merely lying?

It’s a bad law with nothing positive to gain.

  2. Thanks Mr. Mayor for trying to make law abiding citizens criminals.

By the way, I heard that the city is trying to figure out what to do with the Crossroads Mall. It is dying on the vine and many feel that with a location at 72nd and Dodge, something of value should be at that intersection…. how about a baseball stadium?

  3. …you’re kidding about the Hook ‘em flashing, right? I like to think I get most of your jokes, but when it comes to rabid sportsfans, I can never be sure.
