Whats this I hear about the NoK gangs switching from drive-bys to IEDs with cell phone detonators? Will we have to turn off our cells when driving through gangland? No 911 in the 'hood?

asdf,
I am not punking on you (this time) about the permission slip deal. I thought it had to be a joke too until I read it. I am convinced that our local government is made up of a bunch of CFM's. Maybe they thought that Ashford's "note from a doctor" legislation was a good idea so they extended it to kids in bars. I'll bet the city councilmen in grown-up cities are laughing at us.

I HAVE AN IDEA! New city (and state too!) legislation that states after elected, a candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screening! That might cure some of our problem! I can see a nice secretary down at city hall giving someone the news, "I am sorry sir but your meth use precludes you from holding office in our fair city. Thank you and have a nice day." :)

Wow I just took some to read that and it isn't a joke.

That seems like a hassle, though I guess it'll be good for the notary business.

What I would think would be the best way to do it, is keep it on file VIA a laptop or something. Hand out the slips have them signed/notarized, than give them at the club the first time. After the show scan them into the computer and make a simple database. which can be checked against a Photo ID. Pretty easy and it'd only cost about a grand to make together.

According to this mornings Weird Harold, it is not a joke. I know the world may come to an end but I actually agree with you on a preferred method of dealing with it. My concern is that we are allowing minors to "standalone bars" because of a "concert." Sounds like any bar can have a group and be allowed to have minors. I hope not and I would need to read the law but I think that more definition of the venues should have been required.

The waiting room and the Roxbury uses the X/Band method, I dunno about the slow down, since I've never been. Sokal just uses bands for the 21+ crowd, of course they're dealing with a much greater sized crowd.

For those that have never been, the X/Band method means that 21+ gets a wrist band, everyone else gets a giant black X on one or both hands in permanent marker.

I believe that Mrs. Epstein's comments were meant show the silliness of the "note from a parent" idea. Look if we are going to allow this why not use the wrist band for alcohol method that are used at some of the other events around town? I am more concerned about what types of setting we are allowing this in. Maybe there needs to be come clear definition of the venues before legislation is (was) enacted.

Not against the "minors at music venue" issue, just don't see a need or viable use for permission slip, It's not a school field trip. Does the permission slip release anyone from liability related to the event?

How can you seriously be against the bill to allow all ages shows? I hate how everyone seems to think the bars don't have something to lose by serving alcohol to minors. I also love the idea that you people seem to think your kids can't get booze in about an hour should they be so inclined. Seriously, cut that time in half if they go to public schools and cut THAT time in half if they're looking for low level drugs such as Marijuana. The war on drugs hasn't changed shit, it's still just that easy to get dope.

Think of it this way, what's the easier way to get booze, driving down to the slowdown or the waiting room and trying to tell the bartender you lost your wallet, or asking your friends brother for booze? If someone is going to slip kids drinks while the authorities aren't looking, they don't need to do it at the waiting room, they can do it in their living room and not risk getting caught.
