04.18.08 Friday Coffee with Bugs and Mongo

Filed under: Huskers, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha, Omaha Lancers — eyeonomaha @ 7:56 am

It’s been a few since Mongo and I have had the chance to sit over coffee and danish to kick around a few items. Something gets lost in the email’s.

The Roy Ellis trial highlighted the book bag discovered on Valentines day behind a flop house near 21st and Lake. Michael Harris testified that the bad was Amber’s as well as the contents. Inside the bag were the jeans she had on that day, her bra and a blood soaked starter jacket.

On top of everything else the family has been through, now the defense attorneys have managed to get Amber’s parents  excluded from the courtroom. Defense Attorneys Patrick Dunn and Jerry Hug objected to their presence. Normally the sequestration order is lifted by Judges when it involves family members because their testimony is most often immaterialto the actual crime. In this case both parents testified as to the last time they saw Amber. Defense Attorneys claim Amber’s father may be called in the defense case. Maybe the thought of these parents eyes on the person that killed their daughter is to big of a burden to bare for them.

Here is the CFM of the month hands down.

Police were called to the Kwik Shop at 156th and Blondo about a suspicious person. When police tapped on he window of said persons car the driver proceeded to take off. Police broke of pursuit when the car entered the Diamond Head sub division however the driver continued to race through apparently thinking he was being chased by every law enforcement person in 3 states. He crashed through fences, drove through yards until he hit an object that set off the air bags. He then attempted to flee on foot when he was picked up by Omaha Police when they spotted him. Seeing that this Complete Fucking Moron was hurt, officers took him to the hospital for some medical assistance and discovered he had a warrant in Iowa for biting a State Trooper after a high speed chase so after he was patched up they cuffed him. Not so fast, while attempting to put him in the cruiser, Mr Hand Restrained Behind the Back attempted to run again however the laws of gravity along with a some good old fashioned “What a Dumbass” luck caused him to fall on his face. So back inside the hospital for some more patching up and then off to jail. Some people are too stupid for their own good.

Ernest didn’t hang around yesterday for the farewell tour and Legislators heaped praise on his 38 years of service. Senators surprised him with a $2500 contribution to the Britany Williams scholarship fund which will be matched by the University of Nebraska. Also they voted to name the Judiciary Committee hearing room in his honor.

The Lancers rallied from 2 goals down to score 3 in the third and take the Sioux City Series 3games to 1. They now face Lincoln in the semi-finals.

The spring game won’t be the same without P.O. Pears. That and 80,000 fresh on the Bo Bandwagon.

That’s it from us this morning. The danish are gone (good batch today Mongo) and work calls.

Filed under: Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha, omaha city council — eyeonomaha @ 7:49 am

The Omaha City Council reversed field and voted to allow 4 former Kum and Go’s in East Omaha to sell Beer, Wine and liquor.

The Stores new owner, Mohammed Ali, had come back with some stipulations in an effort to gain the license approval, which he thought was automatic when he purchased the stores last year.

Ali agreed to ban all recognized gang members, drug dealers and prostitutes. Prohibit single beer can sales at 3 of the stores. Increased security and surveillance and daily morning clean up of the property. Also his managers would be required to join neighborhood organizations.

Wonder if anyone told Ali that his ban could eliminate half his potential clientele at the 24th and Leavenworth location?

Some Gifford Park residents complained that the dumpster at that location has been covered with graffiti for months. So is every garage off an ally in the area, stop the hate. Wait till some gang adopts the YW as its symbol, instant City Wide exposure, at least on trash day.

Quenton Pfitzer has been arrested again in Omaha for violation of the Child Labor Laws.

Quenton’s group known, as Teens for Tomorrow are the kids that show up late in the evening selling candy door to door. It is illegal for anyone under 16 to do door to door sales in Omaha and the City has received complaints over the years about this group because the kids are often dropped off in strange neighborhoods and are working well after dark.

Andre Robinson was sentenced to Life in Prison for the brutal beating death of 22-month-old Branesha Thomas. Thomas was the daughter of Robinson’s girlfriend and if you remember, Robinson described kicking Branesha like a soccer ball across the room.

Even at the sentencing Robinson claimed he was covering for the mother contrary to the evidence that showed he was caring for the girl at the time of the injuries. Doctors even said the little girl could have recovered but the Robinson never sought medical help, he just zipped her in a hoodie and strapped her in a car seat. Here’s to hoping Andre becomes the newest soccer ball on the athletic fields at the State Pen.

Looks like the Police Union contract is going to end up going to State Labor Court like the Fire Fighters contract. Pension benefits are the key sticking point. The Police Union is asking for 82.5% of the base salary for 25 years of service with an increase for every year after up to 99% of their base salary. (Doesn’t include overtime, which will eliminate spiking). Currently they get 75% of their highest pay period.

The Police Union has offered to pay a portion of their medical premium, which at this time they do not do and will contribute more to the pension fund themselves.

To bad they can’t build themselves a stadium at taxpayer expense next to a bar they are part owners of to help offset their retirement.

Former Husker Willie Miller is back making headlines, not on the field but he is still trying to ram through blockers. This time he used his Suburban to intentionally ram a Blazer near 132nd and Pacific. The Blazer then hit a mini van. Miller jumped out and took at swing at the driver of the Blazer who happened to be an off duty police officer not in uniform. Willie faces 2 counts of felony assault and 2 counts of destruction of property. Nice work Big Will. Maybe Heath and Human Services can contract you to transport some people for them as well.

More students are coming forward in the case of a Millard West teacher texting students asking for pictures of their Chest and Biceps. Some students claim the teacher offered money, alcohol and marijuana in exchange for the pictures. An investigation is ongoing by the Douglas County Pervert Patrol and the teacher is no longer employed at the school.  Lets hope they find something to arrest this freak on so he can’t get a job at another school and put other children at risk. What rock pile are all these freaks crawling out from under anyway?

And for some of our regular readers we had an interesting discovery in the case of asdf that frankly shocked us. Geno was doing a follow up on this person’s last comment and discovered it came from an IP address we were not expecting. Hopefully it is a case of someone using the wireless at the rink last Friday and not a case of someone using someone else’s computer to make disparaging comments to us. We will continue to explore the sophomoric behavior as time allows.

That’s it from here. More later………………………….

03.20.08 March Madness in the Metro

Filed under: Creighton, Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 5:46 am

Another chance for Omaha to put it’s best foot forward, March Madness strikes at 11:30. With fans pouring in from around the country it is another chance for us to shed our country bumpkin image and put on a show. The NCAA makes the inside of the arena generic but we can make everyone feel welcome and give that extra effort to show them what a great little city we live in.

So much for our PSA message. The Huskers dumped Charlotte 67-48 last night in first round NIT action at the Devaney Center. Next up they get Ole Miss. Creighton will pair up against Florida on Friday.

A woman shopping at the 72nd and Giles Wal-Mart around 11 p.m. was inappropriately touched by some pervert wandering the aisles. The woman said she was looking at some items when the man pressed p against her from behind and asked her if she was “looking for a good time tonight”. The woman ran to a clerk for help who then put out a store alert but the man managed to sneak past the 150 year old door greeter and exited the building.

Warren Buffett has lowered himself to a low point once again. He is scheduled to appear on ABC’s All My Children in May. According to the press release Buffet plays himself and the story line has him being enlisted to come to Pine Valley to help get Erika Kane out of jail and out of some fraud charges. Erika, after the charges are dismissed, moves to Omaha and runs for Mayor. Ok we made that part up but with the soap opera down at city hall it was plausible.

The recent shooting of a known gang member who drew a gun and pointed it at a police officer has brought something to light once agian. We have mad comment on the how fast the friends and family of the thug who was shot claim he was an innocent victim. One disturbing thing is how certain media outlets stir up the controversy and maybe place the officers life in danger in the future by just the tone of their headlines.

KMTV Channel 3 used the headline “Deadly Officer Involved in Shooting”. Was the term deadly really necessary or did they just to to incite the residents of the Officers District. The Officer works in the most dangerous area of the Metro and is up against gang members daily. Lets keep in mind that the first person he shot had shot and killed a fellow officer. This gang banger was pointing a gun at another one.

Maybe KMTV can run the headline “Family of Gang Member Failed to Raise Child in an Environment with Discipline to Keep Him Out of Harms Way”.

That’s all for now, slow news day which is a good thing with all the company we have in town.

03.14.08 Mongo’s Friday Edition

Filed under: Huskers, Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 7:05 am

Omaha police were called to the home of two prominent Creighton Doctors after the bodies of a woman and child were discovered inside.

The home of Doctors Claire and William Hunter III sits near 54th and Dodge. Claire is said to be out of town and William is not a suspect. Police are sketchy on details but say neighbors have nothing to worry about.

More on this later as details develop.

Stu Dornan actually broke out the “lead poisoning” defense in an effort to get his client, Mary Likely’s case moved to Juvenile Court where she can get “help and treatment for her ailment”.

Likely and two other girls are accused of dragging a woman from her car near 25th and Corby, tossing her 9 month old to the curb and stealing the car.

One of the other suspects, Uniquea Davis, has had her case moved to Juvenile Court already.

Randolph City Iowa, population 208 and 200 ferile cats, has taken away it’s cat bounty after the phone has rang off the hook from kitty lover who can’t believe everyone doesn’t want enjoy the strays hanging out begging for food.

The bounty was to be paid for any cat trapped and brought to the Mayor. Any unclaimed cats were to be euthanized.

Now thanks to several cat rescue groups, the cats will be trapped, spayed or neutered then released back to the wild where sweet little Tabby can live the peaceful life of running from a coyote or other really wild animal to avoid being ripped to shreds or run over by a semi trailer. Bet you feral cat lovers never think of that stuff do you?

Well the saying goes “Never bring a knife to a gun fight” but someone brought a knife to a bat fight in Neola Iowa and now one man is dead and the other is in custody. Police are not releasing the names of the two men involve at this time.

Sharman Dortch was sentenced to 3-5 years for felony child abuse in the scalding of his 4 month old son. The child received 2nd degree burns over 22% of his body. With time served this guy could be out in less than a year.

Husker football player Andy Christensen was formally charged with 1st degree sexual assault of a woman outside a Lincoln bar. Andy’s bail was reduced from $500,000 to $300,000 and 10% of that was put up by his family who will be reimbursed to $20,000 reduction.

This case should be fun to watch just on accusations alone. Looking at average docket time in Lancaster County with discovery..wow just in time for football season…Nice work getting your name out there Andy. Bet his new team nickname is “Stink finger”. Dumbass….

And with that I’m outa here…Have a good weekend everyone.

03.13.08 Thursday

It may not be a smoldering gun but it was definitely fired recently.

A spokesperson from the NCAA stated yesterday that “Omaha doesn’t need to build a new stadium in order to keep the College World Series.”  A letter dated 2.12.08 sent to Jack Diesing offered a long and short term deal on the CWS and made no mention of a new facility.

Wonder why Muppet Mike never showed us this one till after he had unveiled his stadium plan to the NCAA. What was Fahey’s reaction to the letter. “The 2011 College World Series will be played in a new stadium, Omaha or elsewhere”.

A defense of the Mayors administration was released in answer to the recall petitions. They claim

Fahey has not raised the property tax rate.

Prioritized public safety ( Tell the folks that live in the No-K Coral district that)

Strengthened our Neighborhoods (That must be the Mayors message written in graffiti)

Improved our local economy.

Petitions go out today, organizers have 30 days to collect 22,000 signatures to force a recall election. Wonder if they plan to set up a booth in downtown Elkhorn?

Husker lineman Andy Christensen is out on bail. Nobody knows who put up the $50k (10% of the $500,000 bail set). Let’s hope Lancaster County Judge Jeffre Cheuvront doesn’t draw this case.

Former Hamberg Ia. Mayor Clarence Judy was cited for allowing an underage girl to dance nude in his Juice Club last summer. The girl,17, is also the niece of the Fremont County Sheriff. Terry Rutledge the former owner of Shotgun Geniez and currant manager said employee’s of the club did not know she was under age and she was under the influence of alcohol when she arrived. The club sells no booze. The Sheriff says his sister in law and her husband are not impressed at all with Judy or Rutledge. I’d think they would be less impressed with their 17 year old daughter. Hamberg, thats Iowegian for RULO.

Councilman Jim Suttle wants to clarify a grey area by allowing minors into music venues that sell alcohol an hour before and an hour after a concert is performed there. The measure is meeting opposition from Project Extra Mile. Right now city law says minors may not be in bars unless accompanied by a parent. Exclusions for employee’s and types of establishments are written into the currant law. Suttle wants places like the Slowdown and the Waiting Room to be able to allow the 18-21 crowd and provide something for that group as entertainment.

03.11.08 Tuesday

Talk about a town hall meeting full of surprises. The third and final instalment of the Muppet Mike Stadium Extravaganza took place at Westside High School last night to a less than receptive crowd. Several people stood up and asked pointed questions that were sometimes greeted with arrogant answers from a man who is supposed to serve the public.

“You’re always going to have those individuals who don’t look forward into the future.”

Maybe they are looking into the future and they don’t like what they see Muppet Mike. What they see is you and Mayor Landow ramming another project down their throats without giving them a chance to vote on it.

This was the ultimate in passing the buck, after stealing it first I might add,

When asked about property tax increases:

“That’s up to the County Commissioners”

So lets get this right, you take away the County’s Portion of the Keno money then blame them when they have to raise taxes to cover the shortage of funds? Now I understand why they fought you so hard on turning over the purse strings of the Convention and Tourism Grant Money.

It was obvious last night that this administration could care less what the people think or want nor if they have the right to a straight answer.

The NCAA refused to get into the mix after Councilman Jim Vokal asked for some feedback. Their response was they were awaiting the city’s proposal. In other words they never made the demand of a new stadium or if they did it was done in a way of “Build it but don’t blame us or else” however it looks more like “We will help you get it built but we’re not taking the blame for your wanting a new park”.

By the way, your ball-field faces the wrong direction. For $140 million you could at least build it right.

The family of the man shot by Council Bluffs police now claim the man is also bi-polar (waiting to hear if he ate lead paint chis as well) and he was, let’s all say it together, TURNING HIS LIFE AROUND. He was out on parole and according to his daughter had 90 days left. Funny thing is he hadn’t seen his parole officer since Feb 15th and feared going back in the slammer.

Bond was set at $500k for the Nebraska football player accused of sexually assaulting a woman outside a Lincoln bar.

Not to be out done former Husker Mo Purify and former player Carl Nicks got themselves arrested along with current players Ben Martin and Mike Smith after police were called to a party. 75 people were in attendance. The men were ticketed for something called “Maintaining a disorderly house and being an inmate in a disorderly house.”

Over the weekend a 16 year old girl attempted to flee a raid on a party in Ralston and discovered she can’t fly after she jumped from the balcony and ended up in the hospital. Some party too. Police found alcohol, a “white powdery substance”, prescription medications not belonging to the resident nor anyone at the party, oh and a mushroom. 6 other people were ticketed as well.

Papillion police and Human Society officials raided a home to discover over 200 animals living there. 27 birds and 12 wild animals were removed however the rest were allowed to stay. Apparently their visa’s were in order. The animals ranged from Birds, fish, frogs, turtles, chipmunks, mice, rabbits, exotic possums (wonder if they dance) and chickens. Police were acting on an anonymous tip and said the house wasn’t nearly as messy as they would have expected.

And also in Papillion, well he once lived there but now it looks like a bus ride to Leavenworth is in his future, former Papillion resident Steven Sudyka was sentenced to 2-5 years behind federal bars on child porn charges after police found 3000 images on his computer. Steve faced up to 10 years before he pled guilty. Warm up the cot for Govig, Stevie. He should be behind you shortly.

A after an intense 4 hour search last night, the missing 3 year old girl was discovered sleeping in the home of a family friend. Police used the helicopter, horseback patrol, hundreds of volunteers to search for the little girl who had wandered away from her siblings while playing outside her apartment near 96th and Q.

03.10.08 Monday with Bugs and Mongo

Forgive us for being sluggish, combine Daylight Savings with 3 Overtimes for UNO to move on in the Playoffs and we are a little scrambled this morning.

In the longest game in UNO Hockey’s 11 years the Mav’s moved on, winning 2-1 over Alaska after J.P.Platisha netted the winner with 4:22 gone in the 3rd OT. The Mav’s now go to Ann Arbor to face Michigan.

The saddest thing about this game was the crowd. The Qwest looked abandon. It was pick your seat night. I’ve seem more fans at a drop in game at Benson. Ok maybe not that bad but it did look almost as bad as a Royals game. Has the bandwagon finally left and a bunch of so called hockey fans decided to catch the next one?

Hey the football player to screw up in Lincoln under Pelini has shown his face. Police arrested Offensive Lineman Andy Christensen on first degree sexual assault charges after a 23 year old woman said he approached her from behind, reached under her clothes and sexually assaulted her. He was also charges with resisting arrest, and failure to comply.

Pelini suspended him indefinitely pending the investigation. Let’s see how fast the new sheriff gets things under control down there.

The second town hall meeting on the new stadium was held at North High. Jack Diesing Jr hinted that if we don’t build it the NCAA would go elsewhere even though they have never publicly said that. City Councilman Jim Vokal would like to actually hear the NCAA’s voice on the matter saying they should publicly state that we need to build a new stadium to secure the College World Series.

Also it was said there would be no facilities for RV’s at the new stadium. Diesing stated the 80% of the RV’s belonged to local residents anyway and it was the NCAA’s desire to eliminate the tailgating around the park.

Here is a question that people should start asking, who really owns all that stuff going up around the new ballpark location. Like the hush hush group that invested in the Boatyard, people should ask who’s backing a few bars around the Qwest.  The next public forum is tonight at Westside High School.

A Council Bluffs Police Officer answering a call of a suspicious person wandering around the Super Saver on Broadway ended up shooting the man after a short chase in which the man pointed a shotgun at the officer. The officer has been put on paid leave pending an investigation. No details on the mans condition.

And if you didn’t catch it, watch the news for this guys family members to be interviewed. It was like a casting call for Springer.

A group of Omaha Vets rallied around the defaced monument at Heartland of America Park yesterday. The American Legion members called for better lighting and increased security in the area. They also said they put their lives on the line for freedom and now that freedom is being abused. We’re in favor of posting guards at the memorials armed with paintball guns and a secured position.

That’s it for now, more later………………

02.28.08 Thursday in Doughnutland

Finally the Ballpark plan is unveiled to the public and now we know why the NCAA told Muppet Mike he needs to get more community support.

First, this thing will never go to a public vote. If you want to voice yourself, contact your City Councilman because they will have to sign off on it.

To build it they must come, or agree to come for at least 20 years. That’s the length of NCAA contract for the CWS needed to make this even begin to work.

Creighton and the Royals must sign on as well.

The cost including paying off the Rosenblatt bonds 140 million.

42.95 million in private donations

37.6 million from Stadium revenues that include

Premium Seats (say good bye to your good CWS seats folks, Corporate Omaha just got the go ahead to buy you out of them)

Naming rights ( So long Johnny Rosenblatt make way for Peter Kewitt Park)

Parking (Watch it go from $6 to $10)

Per Seat tax for baseball tickets (So long last 300 Royals season ticket holders)

1% increase in the Hotel Tax (The Muppet claims nobody will notice. Till they read their bill.)

$2 car rental tax increase (Watch em set up shop in Carter Lake with Shuttle Service)

2.13 million in Keno Revenue (till the smoking ban takes place and all the gamblers that smoke head across the river) This includes cutting the County out of the Keno money so watch your County taxes increase.

What you will get is 24,000 non removable seats.

28 Private Boxes ( The Muppet and his cronies need to be seen)

And the bill for the parking garage that isn’t included in the bid.

Anyone notice the smile on Ken Stinsons face. That’s because he is looking at a $140 million dollar project right in the Kewitt back yard.

Legendary Musician Buddy Miles has passed away at age 60. Miles, an Omaha native, played with the late Jimi Hendrix and wrote the classic “Them Changes”. If you ever had the chance to catch Buddy sitting in with the local talent it was a special experience. Buddy you will be greatly missed in the music world.

Ralston High has started a new lock out tardy policy. This policy has the teachers lock their doors when the bell rings. If a student is not in the room at that time they are required to go to a study hall in the cafeteria and the teacher must call the parents.

Sounds good on the surface but lets ask these questions.

Sure it is important to be on time but it is also important to be in class not study hall.

Isn’t locking an exit door during school hours a little against the fire code?

There has to be a better solution than this however Ralston plans on adding it to the Student Handbook next year.

The Iraq War vet and his family have settled with the landlord that tried to evict them upon his return from duty. The two parties reached and agreement where the landlord will let them out of their lease 6 months early without penalty and they can move by March 31st.

The Vet said in his suit that the managers of the apartment complex were rude and unreceptive to offer a resolution and the last thing they wanted to do was live in a Robert Hancock managed property now. Don’t blame them after watching this story unfold. Best of luck to you.

And the mom who exposed her 4 year old daughter to pot smoking has temporary lost her parental rights and the girl and her 2 year old brother have been placed with the biological father who is angry at the entire situation.

The kids don’t know why mom was tossed in the slammer and she is not allowed to tell them in her monitored phone conversations. She is also unable to post 10% of her $25,000 bail. Must have smoked it.

Her lawyer said she is willing to do whatever it takes to get her kids back and is attending parenting classed in the Douglas County Corrections Center. Great, lets make sure we do our best to reunite them all as soon as possible so the children won’t miss crack class in their home schooling. That came right after “How to handle a shotgun on the couch, and Bath day is Saturday” class.

Good thing the dad was a stand up guy and came to the rescue.

And how do the Huskers beat Oklahoma 63-45 the same night Creighton falls to Illinois State 68-54.

Looks like the boys in Red woke up about the right time in the season.

That’s it for me…play nice today

02.24.08 Weekend Edition

Filed under: Creighton, Huskers, Lincoln, Nebraska, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 10:21 am

Armed with a laptop, a bottle of cough syrup, prescription antibiotics and my favorite blanket, I will attempt to put together something worth reading.

The story on the news of the 4 year old girl who has show police how she smokes pot with her mom and mom’s boyfriend just made me vomit even more.

Police were called to the house after reports of the 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy filthy dirty and within reach of drug paraphernalia. The little girl demonstrated for investigators how she smoked joints used a pipe and a bong and how her mom’s friends laughed when she did it.

25 year old Lisa Schuchard faces felony child abuse charges and could get up to 6 years in prison. How someone can do this to their own child just sickens me.

2 shootings were reported early Saturday making it sound like the NO-K coral is business as usual.

2 males , one 19 the other 23, were victims in a drive by at 27th and Fort.

And a 26 year old male was shot at 37th and Saratoga after an SUV chased the vehicle he was driving and shot him. Can’t wait for the weather to warm up and this stuff to get totally out of control again.

Look like DiAnna Schimik is at it again with her “Government Knows Best” nonsense.

Her bill, LB1141, would require home schooled students to take state mandated tests or have school work assessed by an outside evaluator. If the student should fall short they would be sent to a private or public school, even though home schooled children test at or above their private/public schooled counterparts on a regular basis. HMMMMM…. Oh did we mention DiAnna’s husband is a lobbyist for the Teachers Union.

DiAnna if there were a real problem this might make sense but when the home schooled kids are scoring higher than others on the ACT and SAT’s, well somebody is doing something right and it isn’t you and Brad Ashford trying to make the state the parents for every child.

The Governor said he will veto this if it should happen to make it to his desk.

And while we are on the school issue, LB1135 would blur the lines between club and high school programs when it comes to sports.

Right now a student-athlete is not allowed to participate in and outside activities in the same sport during the active season.

Jim “I don’t care if it’s a Blizzard, drive the bus to Lincoln anyway” Tenopir says it regulates the kids time and keeps the playing field even. Mediocre but even.

I loved the example by one parent, “So does that mean a kid shouldn’t be allowed to take extra math lessons on the side, or work?” Good point. At what time is the child’s time belong to the parent and when did the NSAA get parental rights.

My favorite quote came from Kelley Hood.”People have got to trust that those of us who work in education, we know what seems to be best for kids.”

Translate that to mean “Parents we will tell you what’s best for your kids and you will like it”.  Better living through Bigger Government.

The Lancers are pulling away from the pack in the USHL. Last nights win in Des Moines 8-2 coupled with Friday nights win over Sioux City 3-2 has them playing their best hockey of the year.

UNO on the other hand has dropped 3 in a row and got swept at Northern Michigan, losing 6-4 on Friday and 4-3 in overtime on Saturday after entering the 3rd leading 3-1.

Creighton won it’s bracket buster game over Oral Roberts Saturday on a 3 pointer at the buzzer and the earth is still standing still as Nebraska beat it’s second ranked opponent in 2 games.

That’s all I have the strength to muster up at this point.

Filed under: Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 8:28 am

Everyone called in sick so I guess it’s all up to me today.

The standoff the plugged up midtown traffic for most of the day on Cumming Street ended peacefully around 8:30 p.m. last night. A man who was said to be armed was alone in is house and said to also be suicidal. The man was taken away for evaluation after police entered his home without incident.

The woman who was arrested for driving the 8 year old ward of the state to Lincoln while drunk enough to hit .40 on the Drunk-o-meter will be charged with misdemeanor DUI. Yep that’s right people, 5 times the limit in Sarpy county gets you up to 60 days in jail. No wonder Heather Henning is asking to be re-sentenced.
Denise Thompson was taking the 8 year old to see her mother in prison when police pulled her over. She will be charged with misdemeanor DUI, also negligent child abuse, also a misdemeanor. She is not eligible for the drunk ass diversion program but could only serve a year and a half in jail.
5 times the limit ? 60 days ? Where is Susie Dugan when you need her.

State Patrol Investigators have arrested a National Guard mail-room worker and charged her with taking $39,000 in checks and depositing them in an account she set up back in 2005 oh behalf of the Guard. Problem is she had no authority to do so. She is also charged with felony theft after lieing to the Lincoln Housing Authority about her employment status and income so she could obtain assistance. Damn girl did you knock over the bank you had that account in as well? This woman never met a scam she didn’t like.

Speaking of scams, if you live in Elkhorn and your street address got changed you better pay real close attention to your phone bill. Apparently Qwest charged some people out there $33 for an address change and raised their contract rate for Internet. In Qwest defense they are working on the problem however it wouldn’t have been an issue if the Mayor wouldn’t have mounted the take over.

A new bill, LB 624, would make it a felony to flee from police. Didn’t you think it was that now, kinda explains Ms. Demeanor DUI down in Sarpy. The bill is targeted at reducing pursuits in the State. The was the law stands, dirt-bags can attempt to flee and ditch any weapons, dope or other evidence proving them to be scum and if successful all they get charged with is a misdemeanor and loose a couple more point off an already suspended license. The bill is expected to pass.

A tragic accident at 156th and Q leaves one man dead and people screaming about the number of red light runners in this city. A 45 year old man was turning East on Q from Southbound 156th when he was struck broadside by a 1997 Dodge Ram Pickup that had run the red light. An 18 year old male was driving the truck. The accident is still being investigated, no charges have been filed so far.

And last night the Earth stood still. No I am not talking about the eclipse, the Huskers beat #24 Kansas State 71-64 in Basketball. Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in awhile.

Have a good day everyone.

The ride to work was fun. Nothing like watching a Dale Jr. wanna be take the wall going into turn 3 on I-80 because he thought his 4×4 was invincible. How much does it cost to get a pickup off a guardrail?

Bail was denied for Kelsey Peterson as she was deemed a flight risk. Peterson’s lawyer claims that she was abused and threatened by the alleged 13 year old that she drove to Mexico. His lawyer claims he should be given a visa to come back and testify. We still think they should leave the little thug South of the border and ship the rest of his family down to join him.

Bo Pelini gets to deal with his first player in trouble issue after a redshirt QB was arrested for assault and trespassing. Police claim the player was intoxicated and attempted to enter a dorm building without proper escort then became combative.

A phone call to police about a home invasion Sunday night turned into a drug bust at the home of the invasion.

A man pushed his was into the house near 14th and Ogden and the residents overpowered him and called police. When police arrived the also found a meth manufacturing and packaging operation. Talk about a double play.

Sorry we have been limited with our content the past few days. We are attempting to get enough work out of the way so we can take a few extra days off over the holidays.

Back later ……………

A Benson student has been released from the hospital after his CAT scan came back clear. The student had been punched in the head during class and was taken to the hospital after having trouble breathing.

Bo Pelini will help LSU in the National Title game. Tom Osborne said it would not hurt recruiting for the Huskers during the dead period.

Osborne also demoted himself to Assistant Coach so he can still help with recruiting. He had to pass the 2007-08 Coaching Certificate Exam as well.

Barney Cotton is back as well. He will be the offensive line coach.

Turner Gill spoke out publicly about the job yesterday, saying the fit at Nebraska was not right at this time. He says he has some unfinished business in Buffalo and expects to challenge for the conference title and go to a bowl game next year.

Felony theft charges have been files on a Creighton University Medical Center Employee who is accused of selling stolen surgical hernia plugs on Ebay. Not something I would go shopping there for but, wait, who in the hell would buy hernia plugs off EBay?

Debra Lafave has been arrested again, this time for having a conversation with a 17 year old waitress at the restaurant where they both work. The conversation were classified as girl talk however Lafave’s sentence prohibits contact with anyone under 18.

And Geno and Patches just walked in and reported the Lancers won last night in a shoot-out 5-4 over hated Des Moines.  Drew Conboy scored the game winning goal and the game winning punch when he knocked out former Lancer and Omaha native Bret Bruneteau early in the game after a slashing call. Geno said the fight call went like this, “One and done”. Guess he should have stayed with the home team.

The Lancers are in Sioux City Friday.

UNO is home this weekend, facing Lake Superior State.

Back later if something good comes up….

We will be in meetings at times today so comments and emails may be delayed.

Ron Brown is back on the Nebraska staff. Bo Pelini hired brown to be the tight ends coach. Also there is word that Barney Cotton interviewed for the offensive coordinators job.

A drive-by in the NO-K near 47th and Larimore, resulted in an arm injury to an Omaha man who was standing on a neighbors pourch when a car drove by and opened fire.

A punch to the head sent a Benson High Sophomore to the hospital yesterday. School officials say the person throwing the punch will face school discipline. Maybe they should use him for a target at dodge-ball practice for a couple weeks.

A man forced himself into a house in the 4600 block of North 56th Street and demanded money at gunpoint. When the resident ran into another room the man fled. He must have been worried the resident was arming up and gonna pop a cap in his ass instead.

The Terry Sellers murder trial got heated yesterday when Sellers spotted family members of the victims in the back of the court room and said “I know you’re probably all mad at me, Sorry you had to be here.” That prompted the family members to respond with “Sit you ass down” “Murderer”. Yeah Terry, I’d say they are mad. Wonder how far you’d get if they let you walk across the street to get a sandwich at the lunch break.

And a National News Story caught our eye. A Westbury N.Y. man who was a sperm donor to a female co-worker and her female life partner back in the 80’s may be forced to pay child support. Over the years he has sent the boy birthday cards and talked to him on the phone. This would really suck if the guy just had to make his deposit in a cup and now will have to pay for it. But if the donation was at a tag team event then buddy, it’s gonna cost you. Hell have no rath like a scorned lesbian. Just look at Rosie.

Today is City Council day, hide your wallets.

And thanks to our Bantam A-1 team corespondant for being tardy with the update. Our sources were corect and there was no gag order (however we did get a very disturbing email regarding Captain Obvious and something that sounded like a sceen from pulp fiction). So if anyone sees Fly on the wall, swat them for being stupid.

Monday 12.03.07 Morning with Mongo

Filed under: Huskers, Omaha, Papio NRD — eyeonomaha @ 6:57 am

Hope everyone had a safe weekend.

Over the weekend a grenade was found in the parking lot at Westroads, however the top story in all media outlets, Nebraska has a new football coach. Like nobody knew it was Pelini.

Don’t tell us we don’t know how to prioritize around here. You know your the bottom feeder on the reporter food chain when they send you out to cover the bomb squad.

And congratulations to ESPN for becoming the National Enquirer of sports reporting by announcing Les Miles was going to Michigan right before the SEC Championship game. Nothing like having that thrown back at you 2 hours before kickoff.

Police were called to break up a bar fight at the North Shore Tavern, near 101st and Maple. The found a man who had been in a confrontation with 2 people and one used a pool cue on him. Hint, don’t bump the guy when he is shooting and there is A Benny laying on the end of the table.

Nebraska Human Society Officials are asking State and Local Officials to increase the animal cruelty laws to include some Mexican Rodeo events that seem to be happening around here. Horse Tripping, Steer Tail Pulling being the two cruelest offenses. If they would add Eye poking to the rodeo we could have a 3 Stooges version. Some idiot says he will speak out at the City Council meeting in favor of the rodeo events. Can’t wait to hear this guy, with or without the translator.

And some 700-900 property owners need to lube up and get ready to take another shot in the wallet. FEMA has teamed up with the Papio NRD and redrawn the 100 year flood plain maps for the Papio and it’s tributaries. If you are in the 100 year flood plain and have a federal insured loan, you are required to purchase flood insurance. For a $200,000 house with $100,000 in contents that can run you about $2000 a year. And you thought your taxes were bad.

Ahh but FEMA’s Brian Bowman said you can appeal the map. Just show up with technical data and demonstrate the map is wrong. This feat will only cost you $20,000 to have HDR do a HEC-2 Study.  Commercial property owners will take the hardest hit because the value of their improvements is considerably more. Get ready for a big rent increase at One Pacific Place.

This study comes to you from 2 of the biggest money wasting bureaucracy’s around. We all know how FEMA pisses money away, and the Papio NRD is right behind them. They kicked in one million to the pedestrian bridge that has nothing to do with flood control.

From now until Dec 16th you can don your skates and enjoy the rink at 10th and Harney on the Con-Agra campus. For a $5 donation to Shine the Lights on Hunger you can enjoy the pleasure of skating outdoors and take in the sights of Downtown. This is a great family event that some of us enjoyed over the weekend.

That’s it from me this morning, were still waiting for the B-22a Roster to be posted.

Amidst the ice storm we bring you the nonsense:

Looks like Bo Pelini will be coming back to Nebraska. Sources say he will be announced as the new Husker Coach as early as Sunday.

Heather Henning get to keep her drivers license after her lawyer argued that loosing it would be an inconvenience. Henning will have to blow into a tube and have her picture taken before the car will start. Meanwhile Shad Nick’s family will only be able to look at a picture of him for the rest of their lives. Nice work Judge.

Bank Robbery suspect David Pederson was arrested at a Lincoln Hotel last night. Maybe Nebraska has a stronger holding cell than the half-way house in Ames Ia.

Charges were reduced in the case of Delayno Shackelford. Delayno kicked his 8 month pregnant girlfriend so hard it killed the fetus. Witnesses disappeared in the case so prosecutors say they had no  choice but the reduce the charges to gain a no-contest plea. Schackleford’s 20 year old girlfriend had a case of memory loss as well. They have another child together which is 2 1/2 years old.

Last night UNO fell to Notre Dame in hockey , while Lancer Coach Mike Hastings recorded his 500th victory in a 2-1 win over Des Moines.

Special thanks to the guys over at  “You Gotta be Whacked” for donating the tons of dry ice to freeze over Zig’s pond for try-outs. Reports say all in going well despite the weather.

Friday Afternoon Update 11.30.07

Steve Pederson has landed on his feet back at the program where his work was largely praised. Pederson was named Athletic Director at Pittsburgh where he served from 1996 until coming to Nebraska.

Motorcycle dare devil Evil Knievil has died at age 69. Family members say he suffered from diabetes and a condition that had scarred his lungs.  Makes you want to break out the old Evil Knievil action figure and stunt cycle one more time and pay a tribute by jumping it off the basement stairs .

Not much else worth touching on right now.

Everyone drive safe this weekend.

11.28.07 Afternoon Update

Filed under: Huskers, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 2:41 pm

Good News for once.

A Central High Student who was hit by a car after stepping off a city bus near 30th and Binney is said to be recovering well. The family of Johnnesha Brown is said though to be strapped with the financial bills and a fund has been set up at American National Bank and Peoples National Bank for anyone wishing to make donations to help out.

A 14 year old boy who pointed a gun at police while being chased will be treated as an adult. He will also be charged with being in possession of a stolen firearm.

And the transportation company that allowed a teen to escape who then was involved in the shooting of a 6 year old girl, has been dropped by the State. Finally someone did something smart.

Nothing new on the coach watch, however Tunner Gill was picked as MAC coach of the year.

And the family that got the snot kicked out of them by police after they called 911 9 times for help with their out of control son, then turned on police when they showed up to help, had a meeting with Mayor Landow, Muppet Mike and Chief Thomas Warren. The family claims it will be a stepping stone to getting and out of whack police department under control. The family plans to spend the Holiday’s in Whiteclay Nebraska while awaiting a response on if the charges of disturbing the peace will be dropped against two family members.

Tuesday Afternoon Update 11.27.07

Filed under: Huskers, Nebraska, Omaha, Sounding Stones, omaha city council — eyeonomaha @ 3:33 pm

Elmwood park residents meet with Mayor Landow, Muppet Mike was unavailable, about the concern for the movement of the Sounding Stones Sculptures from Turner Park to Elmwood Park.

Councilman Jim Vokal is also against the placement of the so called works of art due to the liability issue the city will have when some kid climbs up them, falls and shatters his noggin on the concrete below. They sit on grass in Turner Park now and make lovely shelters for the homeless at night, thus the reason for moving them. We wouldn’t want homeless 50′ from the new condos now would we.

Mayor Landow said he appreciated their thoughts and would share their concerns with Muppet Mike when he wakes from his nap, sometime in February.

90% of the Dundee/Elmwood park residents are against the movement which goes to show how well our city and Mayor’s office listen to the people.

We are still on the new head coach watch and are happy to report that Dr. Tom did eat lunch today, peed two times and took one good morning dump however we cannot confirm if the dump was interviewed for the coaching job. Tom Shatel was quoted as saying “WWWWWhhhhhheeeer’ss the P P PL PL PLane T T TOo o o Day”

UPDATE: After the players meeting T.O. said nobody has been offered the job yet. He also said he planned to eat dinner this evening.

Word on the street is that Mississippi has gained a Nutt as head coach.

Back after the team meeting is there is anything to report…..

An early morning traffic stop near 48th and Boyd turned into an officer involved shooting when a suspect bolted from the car and began running. A gun was pointed at police who returned fire striking one person in the leg.

Travis Meisinger lawyer plans to defend his client by saying that him hiding behind a door and bashing Tony Premo with a baseball bat was justified. Love to be in court to hear that. Jimmy, it stopped being self defense when the other kids in the fight went inside, now it’s called retaliation and as far as anyone can tell, Mr Premo wasn’t in the initial fight so I’d try to come up with a better defense. “Your honor, my client is an idiot.”

Hot breaking news…..Tom Osborn will eat breakfast today.

A team meeting is scheduled with the players. Husker officials say the meeting is a regular end of season gathering to discuss MVP, team banquet, announce new coach, the usual. We will wait till 4 and see if any earth shattering news comes out of Memorial Stadium.

And as we said yesterday, the coaching change seems to have taken a bite out of crime and acts of stupidity, oh wait the City Council meets today, my bad. Correct that, no meeting today, your bank account is safe for another week.

New Husker Coach Needs to Have a Hard-on for Hitting.

Filed under: Huskers, Mongo Torrey — eyeonomaha @ 8:21 am

The search is on for a new Nebraska football coach and the list starts in Baton Rouge La. . It has been reported that the Nebraska plane flew to the Bayou to interview the man that got away.

Unlike my counterparts here, I think Bo is a good fit for the Huskers. If anyone can restore the smash-mouth defense, he can. If anyone can fire up the house, he can. I like a guy who isn’t afraid to get in the other teams coach’s kitchen. Bill Snyder was a dick anyway. I like a coach who if some stupid punk wants to come down to the fence and talk shit to his players, might just yank him over the barrier, slam a helmet on his head and toss him on the field in the face of an oncoming rusher.

It might take him a year or 2 to restore the order however in one year he fixed a lackluster defense once before. As long as we have the guy that can run the offense under Joe Ganz, next year could be a blast. We way not win em all but I’m betting we would be in em all and the other team would remember being here.

Bo would be my top choice because the defense is the biggest issue in Lincoln. Nothing against Turner, but he is too nice. We need a little naughty to get our attitude back. Maybe co-head coaches, Turner and Bo. Good cop bad cop. I like it though I doubt they would go for it. How fun would it be though. Turner does the talking while Bo stands behind him giving the world the finger.

I like the thought of a coach roaming the sidelines that looks like he could incite a riot at any time. Someone who gets into the game, the players ass if he isn’t giving everything, the art of defending the house against anyone who dares enter.

We don’t need to return to the option, college football has changed and left the option to the MAC. Missouri has shown us that this is the era of the mobile, throwing QB and the spread it out and let it roll offense. The pieces are in Lincoln now, we just need someone to put the puzzle together and then put together 11 guys on defense to keep the neighbor kid from knocking the table over.

If Bo packs his bags and comes back North I expect to see some recruits that have blazing speed on defense, who came to hit someone, not try and arm tackle like a two hand touch game at the Y. I want to see a defense so mean it would make Steve Spurier eat his visor again. Bo seems to be able to turn nice guys into Junk Yard Dogs that have been fed coffee ground’s one they hit the field.

So we will wait and see what the word is. I expect something to happen after the SEC championship game, however Urban Meyer took the Florida job and stayed till the season was over in Utah so you never know. With several top jobs open we need to grab the best guy fast before other teams come courting.

If Bo’s the man then we can dig our blackshirts back out of the hamper and get our vocal cords ready to make more noise than ever before. Chances are he can still yell louder than all 80+ thousand combined and that’s a good thing. Remember this is football or as Dr. Tom calls it, a Spartan Sport. Your supposed to be tough. We don’t need group hugs we need gang tackle’s.

Now get ready to snap the chin strap and pull it tight. If Bo is on his way, the fun is about to begin.
