Checking Clinic with Christ

Filed under: Mongo Torrey, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Uncategorized — eyeonomaha @ 6:58 am

This morning my mailbox was filled with letters on this subject.

Who exactly gave the O.M.A.H.A. email list to the Righteous Right Wings and their Checking Clinic Crusade? Is there no policy protecting our family’s information on file or are they selling the list to the highest bidder?  If they are handing out a freebie then pass that list on to my Church of Shut the Fuck Up the Game is On ,so Pastor Rocko and I can get out the weekly bulletin during football season. (Rocko is giving 2000-1 odds we never see the list).

I know some of you think I’m just picking on these people because I am “non-spiritual”. Nothing could be further from the truth. I get spiritually enlightened on a regular basis thanks to the fine folks at Dewar’s. What I have an issue with is the fact that the youth hockey organization we belong to is not a religious organization and should not be subjecting it’s members to spam from a group that believes they can save all of us from whatever it is we need saving from. This is a recruiting program disguised as a hockey camp. They forget that some of us may not be Christian. Ok, they didn’t forget, they don’t care.

They issue here is that someone either shared or stole the email list in order to SPAM the membership of the two youth hockey organizations in town and some people, judging from the barrage of emails I got since this thing hit the mailbox, are really sick and tired and pissed off that this continues to happen. The email list should not be allowed to be used to forward the agenda of a fringe group of people who want to push their “Fulfillment and Enrichment” on the rest of us.

A honestly I really don’t think God gives a shit if your kid can check someone through the glass come the start of the season. In fact I am pretty sure he hangs back in the shadows during tryout’s and watches how certain members of this group behave. Hope he is taking notes.

Maybe the group of people in charge of the organization will step up and ask for the list back or at least locate the source of the information and discipline them for sharing without permission or if permission was granted then change the policy from here on in an effort to not offend people who may come from a different avenue of worship. If not then maybe Rocko on I will start putting a line out for the PeeWee house league and start passing out Gold Sheets at the rink.

A purse stolen from a car Sunday at St Wenceslaus Church last Sunday held a credit card that was used at the Downtown Omaha Courtyard Hotel. An alert desk clerk became suspicious of the couple and called authorities. Two Douglas County Sheriffs showed up and attempted to question the couple when a melee broke out in the hallway. While attempting to arrest 32 year old Jason Galle, Deputy Mike Smith was smacked over the head with a vase. The struggle continued and Smith fired one shot from his 9mm service revolver, hitting Galle in the chest (Clean up in hallway 2 bring a mop). It was later learned the couple was meeting two men on the 8th floor in some sort of identity theft ring and those men possessed equipment used to make false identification. Who says nothing fun happens in Downtown.

The Deputy was treated for his gash at Creighton as well as Galle who is expected to live.

Galle and his knocked up girlfriend Dana McCoy are also wanted in Iowa on drug and fraud charges. The two other men were booked on related charges as well as possession of meth, go figure.

The Lancers fell to Waterloo 3-1 last night to fall behind in the best of 5 series. Waterloo will take a 2-1 lead into game 4 Friday. Is it just us but do there seem to be alot of waved off goals in the USHL playoffs this year?

Talk about swift justice. Bobby McCartherwas arrested Monday for a murder outside Club 2000 in which a parked car was sprayed with bullets killing Gaylen Wright. He plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to life without parole on Wednesday. Granted Bobby is in jail anyway on federal charges he has also plead guilty to related to conspiracy to traffic crack cocaine (looks like Bobby will be trafficking another type of crack soon) as well as being the leader and organizer of a criminal cartel that participated in drug trafficking and murder. According to reports McCarther was the leader of the Hilltop Gansta Crips and that several other members had also been arrested and were going to roll over on Bobby to save their own asses. Several people said Bobby has a grudge against Wright who had supposedly stole drug money from McCarther. Sounds like Bobby will do his time in the Federal Hole as well.

And a final note to all our Hockey Family readers out there. O.M.A.H.A. will be holding in-person registration for next year along with the swap meet on My 17th from 9-noon. (For anyone searching for a calender that is a week from this Saturday….nothing like a nice advance notice in true O.M.A.H.A. form). Information is on the league website. So get out the checkbook and lets get warmed up for next season. No truth to the rumor a certain group that was on a certain team will have to show proof of a standing bail bond before registration.

O.M.A.H.A. Election Update

We have been forwarded about 30 emails from readers informing us the Neal Krauss has declared his candidacy for President of O.M.A.H.A.  As far as we can tell no one else has bothered to put their name on the ballot at this time but we are sure as are a few of you that someone will enter the race at the annual meeting.

Thumbs up to Mr Krauss for stepping up BEFORE the meeting and putting his name out there. From the looks of our mailbox he has a good deal of support from some very fine people.

Sorry about missing yesterdays post. I will shoulder the blame for forgetting to inform Mr. Torrey that we wouldn’t be in town and his writing services were needed, not that we missed much.

Looks like our State Senators don’t listen very well to the outrage of most Nebraskans as they override the Governors Veto of a 1.2-cent a gallon gas tax increase by a 34-14 vote. (Ok 14 listened) The tax increase takes effect July 1st. You know your state taxes are out of sight when visitors from Sweden tell you the government is raping your pocketbook.

Look like the pervert patrol has flushed another wee wee wanker out of the school system. A Millard West teacher has resigned and gone into hiding after an investigation discovered that he was texting male students requesting pictures of their biceps, chest and abdomens. He would leave money in a public place for them afterward. Some say this practice has been going on for several months. One student said they thought it was some girls at school doing it. (Dude….no chicks are going to pay for your pics…they would just ask if they wanted them.)

The text messages were traced back to the teacher’s school computer where the images were found. No pornography was discovered so far so officials didn’t have cause for a warrant to search the teacher’s home computer, which by now has been run over several times and shipped to various landfills around the region.

A Jury wasted little time sending back a guilty verdict of Daunte Goynes in the murder of Aaron Lofton last year. Goynes will be sentenced for second-degree murder and could get 21 years to life.

Testimony from a cab driver, who followed the suspects after the shooting and communicated their whereabouts to 911, is credited for helping convict the murderer. And he thought he was scared when Loften had him in a headlock.

Philanthropist and the man who built HDR into on of the largest Engineering and Architectural Company’s in America, Charles Durham has passed away at age 90.

Durham’s name graces many a building in the Omaha area, from the museum at the former Union Station to the many research facilities at the Med Center, he said that if more people knew how good it felt to give money away there would be more philanthropists and end to a lot of the worlds problems.

Also Actor and former President of the NRA Charlton Heston passed away at age 84. Heston won the Academy Award for best actor in Ben Hur. Many of us old timers remember fondly his string of disaster flicks in the 70’s. Nothing like Moses trying to land a 747. Thanks Chuck, you will be missed.

The Omaha Jr. Lancers had a great showing in Buffalo for the U-16 National Championship Tournament.  The Jr. Lancers fell to Belle Tire 5-3 in the Championship game. Ryan Killeen was the tournaments top scorer with 7 goals and 6 assists. Hats off to Dave Wilkie and the boys on being National Runner-Up’s. A great showing for hockey in Omaha.

And the Omaha Lancers open up playoff action tonight against Sioux City in best of 5 play. Game time at the Mid-America Center is 7:05. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at the Mac as well. Now that the final 4 is over, get off your asses and go support the Lancers in their quest for both the Clarke and Anderson Cups in the same season.

That’s it for now, more later……………………………….

This morning on my way to work I stopped in to grab a doughnut and coffee, buy a paper and visit with Mongo. Then I saw the headline that caused me to spit my mocha Java halfway across the counter. Brad Ashford is interested in running for Mayor. Looking at the growing list of potentials, Suttle, Handshake Hal, some say P.J. , Mr. Public Safety Dan Welch and now Ashford, this election could end up looking like an episode of the Real World. At least the jokes will be plenty.

Speaking of Elections, is anyone running for the Board Positions open at O.M.A.H.A. ? Not a peep  about anyone, well except whispers from the bible belt. Guess it will be like every other time, show up, a bunch of people will get up and announce then say the same thing. “I’m doing this for my kid and to get involved (even though I have no idea what I am getting involved in). Elect me because I am a good person and a decent human (as long as you don’t review tape of that incident in Cedar City). Oh well we tried to give some interested people a forum to run.

Daunte Goynes took  the stand yesterday and testified that he was terrified after Aaron Lofton put him in a headlock and was punching him so he went for his gun. Other witnesses have stated that Lofton was running away when Goynes shot him. The jury should get the case today after closing arguments.  Hey Daunte start saying these words…21 to life  21 to life.

The State Legislature gave 44-3 first round approval to relocate the State Fair to Grand Island. Lets hope this isn’t the beginning to the end of the Fair. Some suggest just that with the location moving away from a population base of close to a million less than 50 miles away to a city with a population of 46,000.

Anyone watch Lisa Schuchard’s jailhouse interview on TV? She claims she didn’t teach her kids to smoke pot but she didn’t hide it from them like her mother did. This is the part I like, she said she had an excuse ready when the kids did catch her smoking pot. “Mommy is taking her medication, this is what I use to relax”. Must have worked great because you were so relaxed your kids lived in filth. Oh and like Mongo said yesterday, don’t forget about the loaded shotgun on the couch within reach of your babies. Even Springer wouldn’t believe this one.

A Bellevue baby sitter faced neglectful child abuse charges after she left a 3 year old asleep in an apartment with the lights and TV on, candles burning and the door unlocked. She claims she left to go help a suicidal friend. It was the first time the mother had hired this sitter. OK here is a life’s lesson for the sitter. STOP BEING A DRAMA QUEEN. If your friend was in trouble you should have called the police. Your not a trained crisis counselor. You don’t leave a 3 year old alone because Brittnays boyfriend dumped her right before prom.

As the song says “The generation that would change the world is still looking for it’s car keys.”  Sometimes you just gotta say “DUHHHHH”.

OK that’s it for me before I have to start drinking again just to get past the fact that there are that many stupid people consuming oxygen.

Quick O.M.A.H.A. Hockey Update

Some quick news for the Youth Hockey crowd.

First, O.M.A.H.A. has announced John Thomas as the new Coaching Director. Some of you may remember John from his playing days as a Lancer and Mav. Some of you may know him as well from over at Complete Hockey.  John has been around hockey all his life and is a great person to be around.

Here is our vote for a fantastic choice on the Boards part. John has some great things to offer our kids and Coaches.

The Annual Meeting is Scheduled for Monday April 21st 2008 at the Marriott Regency. 6-10 p.m.

Board of Directors Positions open for Election are

President

Secretary

also  a special election will be held per the By-Laws to re-elect two positions that were vacated in their first year of term.

Vice President (Risk and Rules)

Treasurer

For job descriptions please see the announcement at www.omahahockey.net

If you plan on running for a spot please look over what is expected and make the commitment to the position. Don’t just run for a spot because your sick of 6 a.m. ice and your gonna stop it. In other words, do it for all the kids not just your own.

As said before, if you want to declare your candidacy and wish to post your platform and objectives you can email us at HockeyHighlights@Hotmail.com and we will give you free space to do so.

It would be nice if people would do this instead of attempting to nominate from the floor at the last minute in an effort to take control of the organization for their own selfish purposes. But that’s just our opinion.

Remember you can’t bitch if you don’t vote so get to the meeting.

03.17.08 Kiss Me Blarney Stone Edition

Filed under: Nebraska, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 6:32 am

Happy Drunken beer fest for no real reason because most are not Irish day.

Investigators are on the scene of an officer involved shooting at 31st and Larimore. Last night around ten an Omaha Police Officer was making a routine traffic stop and became involved in a fatal shooting.

Police say 17 year old Javon Reid stepped from the car and drew a weapon and pointed it at officers who shot him. It was clear if Reid got a shot off yet. There were two other known gang members in the rental car with Reid and a bag of crack cocaine was found in the vehicle.

Both officers have been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Alcohol and speed seem to be factors in the accident that sent an 18 year old woman to the hospital over the weekend. She was ticketed for reckless driving and DUI after she was driving Northbound in the Southbound lanes of 132nd Street near California and hit a wooden power pole. She was not wearing a seat-belt and firefighters had to use the jaws of life to extract her from the car.

Authorities have released the name of the man found shot to death on the Parker Street overpass. He is 24 year old Nathan J. “Speedy” Blanks. Speedy had a criminal history though not a violent one and it seems 30th Street in this area is a bad location for any of his family members. He had an Uncle shot and killed just blocks away back in “04″ and 20 years ago he had another Uncle killed just blocks away as well.

Police are still looking for a suspect and motive.

Hot ticket this weekend is NCAA Regional action at the Qwest.

8 team headed to Omaha are:

Kansas, Portland State, UNLV, Kent State,USC,Kansas State,Wisconsin and Cal State Fullerton. Now lets see how many stupid College World Series questions and lead in’s our local media can come up with when covering this event.

Congratulations to the Jr. Lancers U-16 team. They earned a spot to Nationals over the weekend with an outstanding performance in the Central States Tournament at the Moylan Ice Plex.

A quick note to the other Youth Travel Teams as your seasons wind down. Please get any updates you want posted to your team pages to us A.S.A.P.  We are planning to start deleting any inactive pages  in the next few weeks. Thanks to all the people who kept us updated during the season.

Now not to sound like your mom but everyone take it easy out there today and don’t over indulge on the corned beef and cabbage at lunch. If your planning on going out and have one too many green beers, please call for a cab. We want you back here tomorrow reading not being written about.

03.15.08 Weekend Edition Saturday

Filed under: O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 10:46 am

Just a quick weekend update here…

Police have released a composite sketch of a possible suspect in the Dundee murders of an 11 year old child and the family housekeeper. Neighbors recall seeing a dark haired man with a black coat and briefcase being let in the home around 3:20 p.m.. No motive in the slayings has been released.

The stabbing death of a 40 year old Neola Iowa man appears to be over a set of tires and rims removed from the mans truck by a neighbor. The man reportedly went to the other mans house to confront him and was stabbed to death with a kitchen knife.

A woman who allowed some high school students to pass beer between a school van and a moving car along Highway 2 has been fined $750. We will have more editorial comment on this later.

UNO got bitchslapped by the weasels. Michigan clobbered the Mav’s 10-1 last night to take a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 series.

The Lancers fell to Waterloo 5-3

Nebraska was 1 and done in the Big 12 Tournament, falling to Kansas 64-54.

And if your looking for some good quality hockey action to take your kids to, The Central States Tournament is going on all weekend at the Moylan Ice Complex, 120th and Maple. A couple of us are out here now taking in some of the games and it is a first class show being put on by the O.M.A.H.A. folks and the rink. Extra food vendors are on hand.  Great apparel sale by a company making custom t-shirts and sweatshirts while you wait (Some great hockey parent shirts available). If you have kids who play this is a great chance to get them out and see a really high level of travel hockey. Again excellent showing and great job putting this together. We are hearing lots of compliments from visiting attendees.

More later…thanks to free wireless………….

Interesting Hockey Article.

Got this in our email, thought we should share it with everyone. Thanks, you know who, for getting this to us.

This I Believe - Hockey is the Cure for what Ails America

By Joe Scatchell - 3/2/07

Failing test scores, ill-behaved day care children, gangs, drug use, the list goes on of the ills facing our country. We look for quick answers that many times end up creating new issues and the circle of problems grows wider in an ever-spiraling pattern. So how do we stop the momentum and hope to reverse its damage?

Play Hockey.

I know that most of you are calling up images of stick swinging, lights out punches and bench clearing brawls. You’ve been fed a lie. That those things occur is a fact. That they occur so rarely to have painted an entirely incorrect picture of the sport is also a fact. Thousands of games are played each week all around the world now and you can probably name 3 or 4 incidents of outlandish behavior, total.

Here’s the truth. If you want society to be civil, its citizens polite, humble and respectful of one another get everyone involved in hockey. Hockey is above all else a family commitment that instills the values that our society holds dearest; that we are part of something bigger than ourselves, hard work has its reward, but most important, respect for others.

For the uninitiated, hockey starts at 6, both in age of player and time of morning practices! Moms and Dads, Grandmas and Grandpas, Aunts and Uncles load up the player and equipment and it’s off to the rink. Many times the rides to and from the rink are lengthy giving parents and guardians and the children quality time to do the unusual; talk to one another. The conversations are not always deep or life altering but that they happen at all is becoming rarer. How did you sleep? Did you like that cereal? No, I never heard of “Take it Back Sunday”, is it a song or a group?” It’s all good because you are establishing lines of communication that may be used for much more important matters some day.

At the rink, you get to watch your child learn. The early progress is breathtaking. Remember how you marveled when they learned to walk? Use a fork? How many chances to you get to see something as wonderful? Try skating sometime to see how difficult it is for yourself. It’s likely that in a short time, your child will be better at something than you are. Talk about a no lie dose of self-respect!

Teams often play in tournaments that take place over several days and far enough from home to require over night stays. Whole families attend these events providing yet another opportunity to do something that is vanishing from our American landscape; the family road trip. Again, conversation, whole discussions even, stops for meals and potty breaks, arguments over who is touching who and all the other things that those fortunate

enough to have taken these trips in our youth, still remember fondly many years later. Siblings look forward to hanging with all the other siblings, the hotel pool, knee hockey in the halls, and yes, the excitement of the games themselves.

Coaches are more than hockey fanatics; they are coaches of life. Players are correctly taught that hockey is a team sport. Everyone on the team contributes. Most teams keep playing time evenly distributed among the players in all but the most competitive situations to instill this fact. Parents are encouraged to bring school and home issues to the coach so that both the parents and the Coach are consistent. For example, it’s not at all unusual for Johnny not to play if he isn’t doing well in school or disobeying at home.

Hockey can be dangerous. Sharp blades, hard sticks and the speed of play demand that players maintain control and respect for themselves and their competitors. Players are taught to “play the body” and not go and “hurt ‘em”. Indeed, the intention of checking is to separate the puck from the player; take the puck not the player out.

The game’s traditions reinforce the basic tenets of a civil society. Before each game, kids as young as 8 years old and already placed in leadership roles as Captains, introduce themselves to the opposing Coaches and Officials and shake their hands. The rules of the game support the development of leadership by allowing only the Captains, not the Coaches, to talk to the officials about game calls. When a player scores, all his teammates join in the celebration. The players who assisted on the goal get the same point the scorer received. Showboating does not occur in hockey. At the end of every game, all players and Coaches line up and shake hands. The same occurs at every level and even at the end of the NHL season.

Lest you think my arguments are specious, I offer these observations. Look at the other professional major American sports and compare them to professional hockey. Most of the players in the NHL and supporting professional leagues have lived away from their families and with host families at some point. Most of us would not think of taking a strange teenager into our home. If you speak to just about any host family, they will tell you that the kid came in with all of the attributes I speak of. They were polite, respectful, humble and thankful for the hospitality shown. Lifelong relationships were made. You don’t see professional hockey players being named in bar room shootings or taking steroids or other illegal drugs. Listen to the player interviews. Universally, they deflect any praise to their teammates and coaches. If they have a bad game or they’re in a slump, they talk about needing to work harder and blame only themselves. When they receive awards, they start by thanking their parents and talk about those long car rides to rinks early in the morning. They are humble, thankful.

These same things happen at every hockey banquet I’ve had the honor of attending. I was privileged to spend as much time as I did with my daughter and 2 sons and have been paid back many times over for those cold mornings when I see them working at something hard, being polite, humble and respectful.

Thank you hockey.

02.19.08 Tuesday

Just like Bob Kerry’s gold watch across the Missouri river ,Muppet Mike’s handpicked committee has come back with it’s recommendation that the new ballpark be built Downtown with no word on how we will pay for it. (Does your wallet feel lighter? It will). It came as no surprise that Mayor Landow and Muppet Mike’s chums came back with a plan that affirms what the Muppet wants. Even though they tried to dispel the notion that the end result was preconceived, the release of the non detailed plan was a non event. The plan is so super top secret it’s details wont be released to the people expected to pay for it until it has been taken to the NCAA.

Already a web-site has popped up to start a recall effort of the Mayor. www.Recall-Fahey.com  was launched shortly after the announcement.

An off -duty Omaha fire fighter was arrested Saturday morning and almost tasered by LaVista police after he became abusive and resisted arrest.

The 32 year old fire fighter was a passenger in his SUV that was being driven by a 24 year old woman who was arrested for her 3 DUI.

No comment from OFD at this time pending and internal investigation.

A man was the victim of a drive by shooting while standing on his porch near 41st and Corby Monday afternoon. Police say a red car passed by and opened fire on the man. No suspects so far.

Two complete idiots robbed the Burlington Coat Factory at gunpoint around 2 p.m. Monday. What could they possibly have gotten in this heist, change for a twenty and some credit card receipts. Oh and that genuine imitation leather jacket on display by the front door. There would be more money in pay phone outside Qwik Trip. Never said we had the smartest criminals here. Thank god they are lousy shots as well.

Got a kinda sorta update on the melee in Sioux City. So far it appears that no parents were involved and that it was over before it really began. Thank god, the last thing I wanted to watch on YouTube was someone I know being filmed acting like a complete out of control buffoon forcing me to openly make fun of them on here. More details when we get some factual information (The Police report will take a couple of days to get to the office, today was a holiday I’m told).

They say persistence will get you everywhere well in this case it got a 50 year old man charged with Felony Theft of Services. The man was unable to obtain Cox cable services due to a previous unpaid bill. That man allegedly climbed into his apartment complex attic and spliced into his neighbors cable line back in October. Cox technicians discovered the splice and disconnected it. Another outage was reported on February 6th and technicians discovered the splice was back. The man reportedly had received 70 channels of nothing plus HBO.

A nice heads up to Omaha Police who nabbed a couple of copper thieves at the former VIP car-wash on 90th around 3 p.m. yesterday. Forced entry leads to burglary charges, here’s hoping they hang a couple more thefts on them for good measure.

More later………………..

02.16.08 Weekend Update

Filed under: Lincoln, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 9:13 am

Another well liked teacher/coach has shocked all that knew him and has been charged with possession of child porn.

Tom Gellatly, the speech and drama teacher at McMillan Magnet Middle School was charged after dozens of images of prepubescent males were found on his home computer. Gellatly also served as the swimming coach and had previously taught at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.

Friday must have been the day for stupid court rulings. A Sarpy County Judge has released Heather Henning on bond pending her appeal that the sentence for her killing Douglas County Sheriff Deputy Shad Nicks while she was driving drunk was excessive. Henning was given a mere 3 1/2 to 5 years in jail for the incident. Due to an error in labeling the blood alcohol evidence Henning’s charges were lowered as it is. Heather had only sat in jail for a month before her release. Shad’s family will serve a lifetime without him.

A Knox County District Court Judge has ordered a couple who was attempting to adopt a child, to return the three month old to it’s biological mother after it was discovered they did not disclose the mothers pregnancy.

The 22 year old biological mother had wanted her son to be an only child and now could no longer support the placement.

The couple said they had not intended to deceive anyone and that the mother had miscarried three times previously.

Karen Authier, Executive Director of Nebraska Childrens Home Society’s praised the Judges ruling.

Ok let me get this right, the 22 year old didn’t want to raise the child but wanted to dictate how many kids were to be in the family? The people adopting the child had miscarried 3 times so it would be prudent to think it could happen again and they want badly to raise a family, unlike the woman giving the child up?

It sounds to me like birth mom didn’t want the expense and responsibility of raising the child but wanted to call all the shots while it was being raised. And maybe it’s just me but this sounds like Baby Brokering and a Judge just facilitated it.

Hope Brad Ashford is reading this….In the second time in a week a driver contracted by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services was been charged with endangering a child in their care after a man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 15 year old he was transporting to a group home. This follows a woman arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol level of .40 transporting a ward of the state down I-80. Another youth being transported earlier this year escaped and was later charged in a murder in Omaha.

So Mr.Ashford do you really still want to clog up Juvenile Court with kids missing school when it appears the State has a big enough problem watching out for  the kids in it’s care already?

And then we spotted this.

The Dawson County Board has ignored the advice of its County Attorney and voted to hire outside council to fight the opening of Shaker’s West, a nude dance club owned by the same person who runs the location in Waverly.

The County Attorney informed the board that the code did not differentiate between the types of commercial use. No alcoholic beverages would be served or permitted. He warned the board that this will cost an enormous expense to the county to fight an unattainable battle.

The owner of the club’s attorney vowed to file suit if the Board attempted to halt the opening saying they would charge them for  loss of revenue and reduction in property value all which will cost the County taxpayers considerable expense if the win.

Just a word to the County Board out there, you better look around and do some research on this because you won’t win this case and you will cost everyone a ton of money, wait what am I saying , you won’t win…Shit Heather Henning’s out of jail, anything can happen. Lawyer up folks and may the best suit win.

A big high five goes out to Mike Hastings of the Omaha Lancers. With last nights 7-2 blasting of the Tri-City Storm Mike ties former Des Moines Coach Bob Ferguson’s all-time USHL win mark at 517. He will look to break that mark tonight when the Lancers take on Sioux Falls. The win also puts Omaha ahead of Sioux City by 14 points.

And UNO rocked the old barn last night with a 5-3 win over Bowling Green at the Civic. ( Hockey is so much better there). The two teams meet again tonight in the old house.

And there is some pretty good hockey going on out at Moylan as the O.M.A.H.A. Jr Lancers host Shattuck St. Mary’s this weekend. Games are Sat 2/16/07 at 11:15 and 7 p.m. and Sunday 2/17/08 at 10 a.m.

And the Midwest Champion Bantam AA team will be hosting the Presidents Day tournament over the weekend as well.

So get your butts off the couch and get out there.

And Pat, I don’t care what anybody else says, but as I sit here and write this I have to say NICE JOB on the TV’s. What a pleasant surprise to walk in here today and not have to lean on the front counter or fight 15 unwatched siblings over the Disney Channel. The place looks great and you and your staff should be commended. The only thing that could make this wall of video any better would be if everyone passed the hat and kicked in for a subscription to Center Ice. Then again, some of us would never go home.

Have a great weekend everyone………

Talk about dodging a bullet. A man who was convicted of attempted assault for aiming a gun at his former boss and pulling the trigger 3 times only to have the gun misfire, was given 9-10 years in prison which in Nebraska math amounts to 4.5- 6 years depending on how you behave.

Police tested the gun and it fired 16 of 18 times but misfired due to a flaw in the firing pin.

Roton Nero had been fired himself from his job at Brake Masters the day before and claims the gun wasn’t loaded and he had donned latex gloves because he was coming to get his 1000lb tool chest and load it in his car. Yeah OK.

The man he aimed the gun at was surprised at the light sentence and wondered what the Judge was thinking. So are we.

Police are still looking for a man who held up the Creighton Federal Credit Union at 90th and Bedford, Tuesday. Making a fashion statement in his red pants and Vikings jacket which he ditched at the door the man was described at White, 5-10, 210 and maybe 20-25 years old. If you have any information, after you stop laughing at the fact he owned a Vikings jacket, call Crime Stoppers.

A renowned Ralston artist was tragically killed yesterday when he was run over by a person backing out of their driveway.

Steven Polchert, who’s works grace many a stars collection, was waiting for a ride to church at 7 a.m. when the accident happened. No tickets were issued at this time.

In a story that has shocked many in the non-profit community, David Catalan was arrested for theft by deception after some irregularities were discovered in the accounts at the Heartland Latino Leadership where he served as Treasurer and Finance Chairman.

According to a report, several checks were written to accounts not related to the program which promotes learning development and leadership for Latinos. Also several debit card transactions were discovered on an account they didn’t know they had.

Catalan was a former V.P. at Metro Community College, former Executive Director of the Omaha Press Club. He had started to run for a City Council seat in 2000 until it was discovered that he did not have the Bachelors degree that he claimed to have. Sounds like this guy has been doing a pretty good job of B S ing his way through life until now. No dollar amount was listed in the theft.

State lawmakers have passed a bill that if signed by the Governor will restrict petition circulators.

The law will require the circulators to be eligible to vote (must be 18, a resident and not a felon) and it will prohibit pay on a per signature basis. Some people complained that circulators were overly aggressive and used underhanded tactics to gain signatures.

Sounds like the extended warranty salesman at the car dealer.

And I have been overwhelmed with email about this Coach/Ump who got busted with kiddie porn. Many want to know why I have been silent on this one when I have blasted anyone else discovered by authorities as having their computer storing these twisted images.

So I mulled it over yesterday afternoon and evening and after a conference with Bugs this morning decided to break my silence about hockey to address this one.

First of all, O.M.A.H.A. can only go as far as the information in the background check leads them. If there is nothing there then how do you know. The fact the guy was 50 and lived with his mom might have been a clue but easy to overlook.

Someone reminded me about how he didn’t have an email address not that long ago because he didn’t have a computer. So either he was lying and trying to conserve hard drive space for his sick and demented fetishes or he finally got the tech bug and attacked it with the zest that would have made Woody Allen proud, oh wait that was Woodys step daughter and she was of age or close to it. Anyway…

Reports don’t say what kind of images Craig was viewing so it could be anything under 17 except one report said the word abusive and that my friends is sick all by itself.

The hockey program did the right thing by first, pulling the names of the kids on his team this season off the web site so reporters don’t call them at all hours asking stupid questions. It would be a 100% safe bet to say his coaching days are over. And I doubt you’ll see him behind the plate this season unless of course Justice is rapid and he gets asked to do the softball game between cell blocks c and d.

This is another sad reminder that there are some sick bastards out there. I couldn’t care less if the guy dressed up like Little Bo Peep and had some legal aged mistress of domination spank him happily ever after, but when you partake in something that cheats some human out of their childhood innocence all in the name of playing tug of war with yourself while staring at a computer screen then you deserve to be locked up in the same cell block as Bubba the 300lb gorilla. And after he gets done with the former softball coach he can play a little pitch and catch with the former umpire.

The Court said this guy must be electronically monitored and can’t access the Internet nor have contact with anyone under 18 that isn’t a family member, so hopefully he will stay hidden under mom’s porch until the trial.

Where do these people come from?

Ok sorry for the late post.

Editorial on Upcoming O.M.A.H.A. Presidential Election

This thought came over me as I was looking over some comments in the Q & A page.

With the Presidents spot on the O.M.A.H.A. board coming up for a vote at this years annual meeting, is it possible for the people interested in running for the post to actually campaign for the office?

Here is what I am getting at. As long as I have been around the organization, you go to the big meeting, a few people get up and make awkward 5 minute speeches and you vote, then sit back and complain about them for the next 3 years.

I would like to see for once, someone who is truly interested in the post to step up before hand and actually run for the office. Put it out there, tell us what your ideas to move the organization forward are. What are your goals?   How will you grow the program?

This nonsense of people tossing their hat in at the last minute, getting up and stammering through a speech filled with nothing is not conducive to electing people who will actually strive to improve the experience for our kids. In fact it’s all about agendas and then a couple months later, everyone ends up bitching on here about it.

This should be the year that a few candidates showed their faces around the rink and talked about what they would do if elected. Listen to the masses and get a feel for what’s going on. Talk about some issues with everyone, not just your little group.

And for god sake (Torrey told me to word it just this way to make my point) let’s not have a little note passer in the hallway handing out slips of paper telling people who to vote for because they really don’t know anyone. If your going to run for the post then you need to get known ahead of time. People should know your face and what you stand for, before hand.

And to the people who stand around and complain about every little single simple thing I have to say this.

This years meeting should be packed full. You should be there to vote, if for anything, the best interest of your player.

We need to have better information on the candidates, otherwise with little notes and 5 minute speeches we will end up with nothing but a group of people serving their separate agendas that only benefit a bunch of isolated cliques.

And no, I am not putting my name in the ring nor an I endorsing anyone at this time. If anyone wishes to step up and put their name out we would glad to give them some space to air their views and ideas for the future of the program and to be able to get feedback as to the feelings of the membership. That said, I know there will not be a rush of people to get in line but if you do plan on it, be prepared to put in the time and effort it takes to hold this job and to be blamed for everything.

Now where is Pat ? My car didn’t start this morning and I know it was his fault the dome light was left on last night. The least he could have done is left some jumper cables when he was on his way to make the interstate into a skating rink.

01.11.08 Friday Mongo Torrey at the Desk

Filed under: Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 9:51 am

Sorry for the late start, my real job got in the way of my fill in spot.

State Senator Gwen Howard introduced a bill that would ban smoking in a car with the windows up or down that had a child under the age of 16 present. The fine would range  from $50-$100.

Howard also introduced a bill that made sure anyone that might be remotely disappointed at not getting a ticket to a show at the Qwest Center be given priority status and moved to a spot in the line right behind her the next time Hanna Montana comes to town.

A Chalco Hills daycare provider faces felony child abuse charges after an expert showed that the scalding on the hands of a child in the day cares charge could not have gotten the injury the way it was explained. The provider claimed the child stuck it hand in the water when she turned to tend to another child however the injury is consistent of one that was done on purpose. If this person is found guilty they should be required to hold a couple of plugged in curling iron’s for a few minutes just to get the return favor.

An Australian man who was convicted of touching a 9 year old boy and was given a 4 1/2 year sentence now faces 10 counts of possession of child porn with more expected to follow. 24 year old Jonathan Dunne could be the next resident in the Mike Govig wing down at the State Pen.

A man was shot inside a local firing range and remains in critical condition. A person inside the Bullet Hole was cleaning a loaded gun when it went off striking the other man around the shoulder. No truth that the rest of the patron’s then clipped the idiot who didn’t unload his weapon up to the target rack and ran him out to the 50 yard range.

Quoting the Movie Natural Born Killers, the man who was sprung from the Montgomery County Jail by the barefoot shotgun wielding Meth head, claims the escape was an act of love and that they just wanted to go to a place that made them smile. Hope Ft. Madison gives him the giggles. He said they talked about the scene in the movie where the two characters married themselves on or under a bridge (was that on the White Album as well?) and that he has never felt love like this. Well wait till you meet Bubba. I hear he has a thing for half bearded M & M shaped idiots.

Kids, this is what drug’s do to your brain. When you start quoting Woody Harrelson movies you know your down to a couple active brain cell’s.

OK folks it’s back to my paying gig, FYI UNO is home to Miami of Ohio and plenty of our kids are on home ice this weekend, if a couple of other people had not fallen down on their jobs we might even know where but we have only received one Youth Hockey Update Email this week. So much for us being able to post positive information.

Have a good weekend everyone. I will try to drop in some updates over the weekend if Bugs is still under the weather.

Filed under: Huskers, Nebraska, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha — eyeonomaha @ 6:53 am

Ron Brown is back on the Nebraska staff. Bo Pelini hired brown to be the tight ends coach. Also there is word that Barney Cotton interviewed for the offensive coordinators job.

A drive-by in the NO-K near 47th and Larimore, resulted in an arm injury to an Omaha man who was standing on a neighbors pourch when a car drove by and opened fire.

A punch to the head sent a Benson High Sophomore to the hospital yesterday. School officials say the person throwing the punch will face school discipline. Maybe they should use him for a target at dodge-ball practice for a couple weeks.

A man forced himself into a house in the 4600 block of North 56th Street and demanded money at gunpoint. When the resident ran into another room the man fled. He must have been worried the resident was arming up and gonna pop a cap in his ass instead.

The Terry Sellers murder trial got heated yesterday when Sellers spotted family members of the victims in the back of the court room and said “I know you’re probably all mad at me, Sorry you had to be here.” That prompted the family members to respond with “Sit you ass down” “Murderer”. Yeah Terry, I’d say they are mad. Wonder how far you’d get if they let you walk across the street to get a sandwich at the lunch break.

And a National News Story caught our eye. A Westbury N.Y. man who was a sperm donor to a female co-worker and her female life partner back in the 80’s may be forced to pay child support. Over the years he has sent the boy birthday cards and talked to him on the phone. This would really suck if the guy just had to make his deposit in a cup and now will have to pay for it. But if the donation was at a tag team event then buddy, it’s gonna cost you. Hell have no rath like a scorned lesbian. Just look at Rosie.

Today is City Council day, hide your wallets.

And thanks to our Bantam A-1 team corespondant for being tardy with the update. Our sources were corect and there was no gag order (however we did get a very disturbing email regarding Captain Obvious and something that sounded like a sceen from pulp fiction). So if anyone sees Fly on the wall, swat them for being stupid.

11.29.07 Tragic Passing of Adam Peters

We got this as a comment but it truly deserved it’s own space.

From Hockey Poor:

Folks, I love to banter and bs on this site but today is a time to bring very tragic news to the group.  A child of who has been part of the hockey family lost his life last night in a auto accident on I80.  The details are not clear as to the cause of the accident as of yet.  Adam Peters who has played hockey for the organization and a great kid with a great family has left us.  Please take a minute to hug your kids and their friends as this really hits home.

From all of us here at the Eye on Omaha, our hearts and prayers go out to the Peters family. Please extend a hand out to a member of our hockey family in this time of need. This is truly a sad day.

Note to T.O.

Please hire someone, anyone today. We don’t care if it’s Pelini, Gill, Nutt,Holtz god we would even settle for Corso, just something to shut up the Omaha Media analyst from talking about this any more.

An Omaha woman told police that her husband assaulted her so she “Ran his damn ass over.”  Police answering the call near 39th and Burdette found the man a few blocks away and he was taken for medical treatment. The woman was arrested.

Remember this is the last week for yard waste pick-up. After that you will have to blow the left over leaves into your neighbors yard.

We just got a strange email about hockey and maybe someone can help us out with what happened as the person that sent it has not responded back.  The email claimed Captain Kangaroo had struck again in the Peewee A game with Lincoln. Anyone know what that was all about and if it is worthy of comment? You can comment here or send us an email to Hockeyhighlights@hotmail.com and we will look in to it.

A 14 year old Iowa teen was reported to have shot himself in the leg while coon hunting. Dirty Harry Jr. accidentally pulled the trigger while trying to club the coon in the head after he knocked it out of the tree with a few rounds.

Back later after we dig up some more items. The Coaching change seems to have taken a bite out of crime in the area.

Morning Everyone

Slow news day again.

Top Story   Police are investigation a shooting at the Siena-Francis house they are calling “Homeless with Handgun”. One person was taken to Creighton Medical Center in critical condition around 10:30 last night.

The City Council approved the 40k for a study on snow removal. It should be ready in 3-4 months or just in time for Spring. The Mayor said he still preferred The God method. God put it there, God can take it away. Dan Welch commented “If only fighting fires were that easy I could get rid of all of em.”

Update 7:50 a.m.  I just got done reading a very heated email from someone wanting to set the record straight about the O.M.A.H.A. website. This person would be in the know so I am going to say it is good information.

It seems that all the Team Mangers have passwords that allow them to update their team information and that it is up to them to do so. There is a tag under every team entitled team news and they are responsible for that content. That explains why the Bantam A-1 team has info (Nice Job Ann) and others don’t. So there you go, managers people are asking for the information, if you can’t do it, appoint someone who can. Granted it might cut into the gossip hour, but there are enough people roaming around at practice with laptops, put em to work.

We are glad to continue to provide the information here as well and have been getting many email’s expressing thanks for doing so. One person’s comment was that it was a nice way for people from the other organization to send well wishes to the O.M.A.H.A. team’s and vise-versa. We are glad we could be the olive branch (however we are sure someone will be a Hawk and swing by and eat the dove at some point).

So there’s one answer to the O.M.A.H.A. information dilemma. Thanks for the update.

Our Holiday Schedule is this….
