The No-K Coral sounded like a GrucciFireworks show over the weekend with all the arrant gunfire.

An internal investigation is underway after an off duty officer working as a security guard at the 30th and Ames BP station shot and killed a man after that man had shot someone in a fight. Boots Sheldon reported to us from the pay phone at Big Jims across the street that a fight had broken out at the BP around 2:30 and the officers attempted to break it up however a few didn’t get the message and began to fight. 21 year old Leroy Goodwin pulled a gun and shot 29 year old Michael Moss. Officer Jarvis Duncan, last years Officer of the Year, then drew his service revolver and shot Goodwin who later died from his wounds. Officer Duncan and Officer Randy Szemplenski have been placed on Administrative leave pending the investigation.

All together now..”They didn’t have to shoot him….He was turning his life around”.

At 5:30 Sunday Morning 18 year old Maurice Dixon was walking near 24th and Evans when he was shot in the back. No motive or suspects have been released. Dixon is expected to make a full recovery and be back wandering the streets at all hours of the night shortly.

At 9:30 last night a teen heard a knock at the door at his home near 28th and Ames. He looked out and didn’t see anyone but was shot in the back as he turned to walk away. Again no suspects or motive is being released.

And then Police found an unresponsive man in a home near 17th and Victor. Then man identified as Clenix Martin was pronounced dead at Nebraska Medical Center. Martin had testified against Roy Ellis in his murder trial. Roy as you know is the man who killed Amber Harris.

Then we have the teen who was arrested near 27th and S and was handcuffed and placed in the police cruiser. The teen pulled a Houdini and got his hands in front of him and slid behind the wheel of the cruiser and took off. His driving skills being what the were in the first place had him loose control and hit a tree, hopefully hitting his head as well. The teen also has a felony warrant in Iowa for him. Let me guess Felony Dumbass Violation?

And with the great weather upon us another problem arises. That problem is motorcycle rider’s who can’t obey the laws of the road because they think they are invincible.

Last night around 7:30 p.m. a man was killed near 177th and Blondo after he attempted to pass a car on the left that was in the LEFT HAND TURN LANE on Blondo. The car struck his bike and he lost control and hit a wooden telephone pole. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Like the guy getting clocked a the speed of light on the Dodge expressway because he was late for work, to many of the rice rocket ridding clowns are putting other lives in danger because of their need to be idiots on the road. From fools riding wheeliesin traffic to idiots who ride between lanes passing cars they are putting more than themselves in danger. I am sorry this fool got scattered across the countryside but I feel more for the poor woman who has to live with the fact she was involved in a fatality accident because of someones foolish and selfish behavior.

Lets lighten things up around here.

HOW ABOUT THEM LANCERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Lancers take boththe Anderson and Clark cups with a 4-3 overtime win in front of the home crowd Saturday night. It’s the 7th Championship for the club. The win was capped by a Barry Almeida goal with 13:52 left in over time. Lancer Goalie Drew Palmisano was named postseason MVP. Looks like the Lancers will continue to be a pipeline of outstanding netminders.

Great job guys…..Cant wait for next season.

More later after more details are released in the NO-K events………….

Things keep popping in the NO-K Coral. Last night two men were reported to have walked up to 4022 Wirt and started shooting. Two men inside were hit, one went to the hospital in a private car the other got to ride in the cube van with the flashing lights. Police say neither has life threatening injuries which contributes to the statistic that the gansta style of shooting a gun has a 22% accuracy rate. No word on a motive for the shootings.

A man walked up to police and reported being stabbed near the W Dale Clark library (thats Downtown for thoes of you in Millard). Police arrested a suspect but did not provide many details. Our guess it stemmed from a fight over a cigarette butt or a bottle with an Iowa Deposit stamp but we could be wrong.

Candidate Jimmy Esch is taking a beat down from his opponents over a statement released that quoted word for word in first person an article published by the Brookings Institute on the Feds getting involved in the mortgage issues. Jimmy blamed a staff member for poor copy and paste skills (maybe he is ready for Washington) and attempted to slough it off as a little mistake while others made the point the Jimmy would have gotten his walking papers from law school had he done it there. Maybe the I Team needs to review his term papers. Not that they would find anything but it might keep us from having to see Carol Kloss on TV for a few days. Not to change the subject but which producer reviewed her demo tapes and though that was a good idea? We haven’t seen more biased editorialized twisted reporting since Carol Schrader graced the airwaves. After viewing some of the I Team’s reports we have an idea what the I stands for. Maybe Todd and Tyler can loan these guys the old short bus to use as their I Team vehicle.

Wow that kinda sounds harsh.

A story going around and getting some comment on talk radio and in the Public Pulse is giving Muppet Mike thumbs up for supporting a Street Car System in Omaha. Forgive us if we are wrong but were not these same people calling Handshake Hal a complete Boob for suggesting the same thing a few years ago. This Administration is starting to make former Councilman Lo’s idea of a canal system linking Carter Lake and downtown look like pure genius.

Game 4 tonight Lancers vs Waterloo.

More later after we demolish this box of goodies Mongo brought with him today and kick around some new ideas…….

A purse stolen from a car Sunday at St Wenceslaus Church last Sunday held a credit card that was used at the Downtown Omaha Courtyard Hotel. An alert desk clerk became suspicious of the couple and called authorities. Two Douglas County Sheriffs showed up and attempted to question the couple when a melee broke out in the hallway. While attempting to arrest 32 year old Jason Galle, Deputy Mike Smith was smacked over the head with a vase. The struggle continued and Smith fired one shot from his 9mm service revolver, hitting Galle in the chest (Clean up in hallway 2 bring a mop). It was later learned the couple was meeting two men on the 8th floor in some sort of identity theft ring and those men possessed equipment used to make false identification. Who says nothing fun happens in Downtown.

The Deputy was treated for his gash at Creighton as well as Galle who is expected to live.

Galle and his knocked up girlfriend Dana McCoy are also wanted in Iowa on drug and fraud charges. The two other men were booked on related charges as well as possession of meth, go figure.

The Lancers fell to Waterloo 3-1 last night to fall behind in the best of 5 series. Waterloo will take a 2-1 lead into game 4 Friday. Is it just us but do there seem to be alot of waved off goals in the USHL playoffs this year?

Talk about swift justice. Bobby McCartherwas arrested Monday for a murder outside Club 2000 in which a parked car was sprayed with bullets killing Gaylen Wright. He plead guilty to murder and was sentenced to life without parole on Wednesday. Granted Bobby is in jail anyway on federal charges he has also plead guilty to related to conspiracy to traffic crack cocaine (looks like Bobby will be trafficking another type of crack soon) as well as being the leader and organizer of a criminal cartel that participated in drug trafficking and murder. According to reports McCarther was the leader of the Hilltop Gansta Crips and that several other members had also been arrested and were going to roll over on Bobby to save their own asses. Several people said Bobby has a grudge against Wright who had supposedly stole drug money from McCarther. Sounds like Bobby will do his time in the Federal Hole as well.

And a final note to all our Hockey Family readers out there. O.M.A.H.A. will be holding in-person registration for next year along with the swap meet on My 17th from 9-noon. (For anyone searching for a calender that is a week from this Saturday….nothing like a nice advance notice in true O.M.A.H.A. form). Information is on the league website. So get out the checkbook and lets get warmed up for next season. No truth to the rumor a certain group that was on a certain team will have to show proof of a standing bail bond before registration.

The effort to recall Muppet Mike went down in flames. Recall organizers only gathered 8000 + signatures instead of the 22,000 needed. The organizers blamed poor planing and said they filed to soon before they had enough people in place to gather signatures.

Election Officials said the signed petitions would be kept on file for several months so that anyone who wants to may come look at them. For you 8000 signors, don’t be surprised to get an extra little kick from city hall after the assigned cronies makes a copy of the “list”.

A day after some threatening messages were found scribbled on the walls of some restrooms at Westside, 14 windows were shot out of vehicles around the school yesterday. Additional security will be on hand through the end of the week but some are speculating it was just a prank. Some prank. Fizzies in the pool=Prank, shooting out windows= disturbing incident.

It appears bug fogging devices caused the blast that injured 2 women in Red Oak last week. Apparently the women were taking care of the owners dog and decided to clean the house as a surprise, not knowing that 8 of the devices had been activated inside. The women began to feel ill and layed down but the dog began barking outside and they decided to leave the house. When they opened the door the oxygen fumes mix was ignited by something inside the house and the home exploded.(Myth Busters showed this in one episode, read the warning labels people.) The women are reported still in critical condition at St Elizabeths burn center.

We’re #5  We’re #5 We’re #5

Yep in the latest survey Nebraska is reported #5 in the number of people who drive while intoxicated, trailing Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. Still trying to figure out when that survey was taken and by whom. After seeing this report the Omaha City Council reacted by banning walkup window Liquor Sales. It is illegal to sell liquor in Nebraska at a drive thru window but one North Omaha Tobacco store has concealed a window in a concrete vestibule so you can walk up and get your goods. The Council Ok’d that because it was technically inside.

Area businesses worry that people will walk up to buy the booze then go in the alley and drink it. Boots reports that some of the people near this store, including him, don’t drive anyway and the alley is their home so these people need to shut the hell up. Boots is getting testy with summer approaching.

After a long meeting in Chambers the Harris family was allowed back in the Court Room yesterday. The Prosecutors presented the DNA evidence linking Roy Ellis to the crime showing the odds of 2.36 billion African Americans that it was not him.

Also the Jury was told of hardened criminals who never snitch that came forward and told of Ellis’ obsession with the missing girl and his need to take care of some unfinished business. The Defense Attorney’s must feel like the crew on the Titanic. 1 in 2.36 billion, you’d have better chance playing the lottery.

And the Lancers dropped Lincoln on their heads last night in the opening game of the USHL Semi Finals. Matt Thurber lead the charge with a pair of goals in the 5-0 butt kicking. Game 2 is Saturday at the Ice Box.

The City of Omaha is planning on buying 12 more surveillance cameras to place in hot spots of crime. Mayor Landow declined to say how many cameras the city has in place already nor their location but from the amount of shooting and the lack of apprehension were guessing they picked a bad spot. The cameras will be paid for from a grant from Homeland Security and will be hooked up to a computer server, hopefully not the same one used at the City County Building, to help police.

The Best Dressed City Councilman in Omaha, Frank Brown, questioned the use the quality of the cameras and stated that the Council needed to be informed of the positions for accountability reasons. Lets hope these things have a better picture quality than some of the ones in convenience stores. For 8 grand we should be able to see the back side of a gnat at 50 yards.

The Muppet Mike Meeting with the NCAA came away with more negotiations most based on future revenue for the NCAA around the College World Series. The two groups hope to have a memorandum of understanding by April 30thand a deal by June 1st. From the sound of things, the NCAA is looking to stick it’s hand in the cookie jar that the city was planning on paying for the stadium with. A few people might have been on to something. Some of the folks at the NCAA may have only objected to the party surrounding Rosenblatt because they were not getting a cut of the proceeds.

Former Powerlifting Coach turned pervert vidographer and child porn watcher James Hart was given 10 years in prison followed by several years of probation. Hart has obtained a nude picture of a 16 year old girl he knew and threatened to spread it around if she did not send him more. Police discovered he had also taken video of young girls as they changed clothes in the locker room of his basement gym. Have fun the next 10 years Jimmy. Maybe you can give weightlifting pointers out in the yard.

As much as  we disagreed with the ruling baring Amber Harris’ parents from the Courtroom, we were glad they were not there yesterday as the grisly pictures and video of her remains were shown to the Court. Defense lawyers objected at every turn only to be denied. Thankfully the Harris’ did not have to see how tragically the remains of their daughter were dumped in the brush of Humel Park. Roy Ellis was the only one in the Courtroom who did not watch the presentation but then he had seen it before.

Lancers vs Lincoln best of 5 series starts at 7:05 tonight at the MAC.

04.18.08 Friday Coffee with Bugs and Mongo

Filed under: Huskers, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha, Omaha Lancers — eyeonomaha @ 7:56 am

It’s been a few since Mongo and I have had the chance to sit over coffee and danish to kick around a few items. Something gets lost in the email’s.

The Roy Ellis trial highlighted the book bag discovered on Valentines day behind a flop house near 21st and Lake. Michael Harris testified that the bad was Amber’s as well as the contents. Inside the bag were the jeans she had on that day, her bra and a blood soaked starter jacket.

On top of everything else the family has been through, now the defense attorneys have managed to get Amber’s parents  excluded from the courtroom. Defense Attorneys Patrick Dunn and Jerry Hug objected to their presence. Normally the sequestration order is lifted by Judges when it involves family members because their testimony is most often immaterialto the actual crime. In this case both parents testified as to the last time they saw Amber. Defense Attorneys claim Amber’s father may be called in the defense case. Maybe the thought of these parents eyes on the person that killed their daughter is to big of a burden to bare for them.

Here is the CFM of the month hands down.

Police were called to the Kwik Shop at 156th and Blondo about a suspicious person. When police tapped on he window of said persons car the driver proceeded to take off. Police broke of pursuit when the car entered the Diamond Head sub division however the driver continued to race through apparently thinking he was being chased by every law enforcement person in 3 states. He crashed through fences, drove through yards until he hit an object that set off the air bags. He then attempted to flee on foot when he was picked up by Omaha Police when they spotted him. Seeing that this Complete Fucking Moron was hurt, officers took him to the hospital for some medical assistance and discovered he had a warrant in Iowa for biting a State Trooper after a high speed chase so after he was patched up they cuffed him. Not so fast, while attempting to put him in the cruiser, Mr Hand Restrained Behind the Back attempted to run again however the laws of gravity along with a some good old fashioned “What a Dumbass” luck caused him to fall on his face. So back inside the hospital for some more patching up and then off to jail. Some people are too stupid for their own good.

Ernest didn’t hang around yesterday for the farewell tour and Legislators heaped praise on his 38 years of service. Senators surprised him with a $2500 contribution to the Britany Williams scholarship fund which will be matched by the University of Nebraska. Also they voted to name the Judiciary Committee hearing room in his honor.

The Lancers rallied from 2 goals down to score 3 in the third and take the Sioux City Series 3games to 1. They now face Lincoln in the semi-finals.

The spring game won’t be the same without P.O. Pears. That and 80,000 fresh on the Bo Bandwagon.

That’s it from us this morning. The danish are gone (good batch today Mongo) and work calls.

When the gavel falls today, barring a Special Session called by the Governor, term limits will pull the plug on some long standing State Legislators. Ernest will have to find a new platform from which to read his poetry after 38 years, DiAnna Schimek will have to find something else to do and so will Ron Raikes among others. Don’t fret over them. We are sure a more than a few with develp a career as lobbyist.

A Douglas County District Court Judge has ordered the City of Omaha to hire a Public Safety Auditor or explain why it has not done so. Thanks to a lawsuit filed by the ACLU on behalf of the Rev. Ed Rollerson and Charles Parks Jr. the suit contends that the City is violating it’s municipal code. Tristin Bond formerly held the position but the City Council eliminated funding for the position. Muppet Mike then made bond a member of his staff but then fired her for releasing a report without permission. Bond was paid a salary of $87,000 plus benefits (like a membership to the Old Country Buffet Gold Key Club).  Lets see how fast city officials dig up the funding and locate a suitable candidate for this position.

Pot Mom Lisa Schuchard was back in a court room yesterday and left with the same result. Bawling her eyes out after a Judge refused to lower her bail. She now awaits trial for felony child abuse.

And tonight’s game 4 between the Lancers and Sioux City should be a real dandy. Granted neither team really cares for the other but thanks to the Circus being in town (Isn’t is always in town in Sioux City?) the game will be played at the IBP Ice Plex that seats 1000 people at best. Not truth there will be a cage match between periods between the Bantam A”1″ parents and Sioux City with the winner facing Cedar Rapids in the next round (that was for you Cappy)

Filed under: Nebraska, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, Omaha, Omaha Lancers — eyeonomaha @ 5:52 am

Sorry about missing yesterdays post. I will shoulder the blame for forgetting to inform Mr. Torrey that we wouldn’t be in town and his writing services were needed, not that we missed much.

Looks like our State Senators don’t listen very well to the outrage of most Nebraskans as they override the Governors Veto of a 1.2-cent a gallon gas tax increase by a 34-14 vote. (Ok 14 listened) The tax increase takes effect July 1st. You know your state taxes are out of sight when visitors from Sweden tell you the government is raping your pocketbook.

Look like the pervert patrol has flushed another wee wee wanker out of the school system. A Millard West teacher has resigned and gone into hiding after an investigation discovered that he was texting male students requesting pictures of their biceps, chest and abdomens. He would leave money in a public place for them afterward. Some say this practice has been going on for several months. One student said they thought it was some girls at school doing it. (Dude….no chicks are going to pay for your pics…they would just ask if they wanted them.)

The text messages were traced back to the teacher’s school computer where the images were found. No pornography was discovered so far so officials didn’t have cause for a warrant to search the teacher’s home computer, which by now has been run over several times and shipped to various landfills around the region.

A Jury wasted little time sending back a guilty verdict of Daunte Goynes in the murder of Aaron Lofton last year. Goynes will be sentenced for second-degree murder and could get 21 years to life.

Testimony from a cab driver, who followed the suspects after the shooting and communicated their whereabouts to 911, is credited for helping convict the murderer. And he thought he was scared when Loften had him in a headlock.

Philanthropist and the man who built HDR into on of the largest Engineering and Architectural Company’s in America, Charles Durham has passed away at age 90.

Durham’s name graces many a building in the Omaha area, from the museum at the former Union Station to the many research facilities at the Med Center, he said that if more people knew how good it felt to give money away there would be more philanthropists and end to a lot of the worlds problems.

Also Actor and former President of the NRA Charlton Heston passed away at age 84. Heston won the Academy Award for best actor in Ben Hur. Many of us old timers remember fondly his string of disaster flicks in the 70’s. Nothing like Moses trying to land a 747. Thanks Chuck, you will be missed.

The Omaha Jr. Lancers had a great showing in Buffalo for the U-16 National Championship Tournament.  The Jr. Lancers fell to Belle Tire 5-3 in the Championship game. Ryan Killeen was the tournaments top scorer with 7 goals and 6 assists. Hats off to Dave Wilkie and the boys on being National Runner-Up’s. A great showing for hockey in Omaha.

And the Omaha Lancers open up playoff action tonight against Sioux City in best of 5 play. Game time at the Mid-America Center is 7:05. Game 3 is scheduled for Saturday at the Mac as well. Now that the final 4 is over, get off your asses and go support the Lancers in their quest for both the Clarke and Anderson Cups in the same season.

03.07.08 Friday Working for the Weekend

Muppet Mike had a little get together with his former friends in South Omaha. The puppet road show appeared at the Larietzen Gardens in an effort to justify the new Downtown Ballpark. The show has added a couple of new performers in Ken Stinson who plays the nervous friend and Jack Diesing who appeared nervous and ashamed at times.

The people who attended the show were treated to the same act as before. You know “We haven’t raised taxes in 7 years” (Just the valuations so we get more money.) “Trust us”

The show was greeted to a chorus of Boo’s and catcalls throughout. Not much new information was released with the exception of a hint that a former food processing plant at 10th and Capitol would be raised to build some temporary parking.

The show has two more programs scheduled, one at North High and the other at Westside. Wonder why they didn’t travel out to Elkhorn?

James Martin Davis is asking for a plea deal for Kelsy Peterson. JMD says the one thing she is guilty of is statutory rape and she has not been charged with that. The Judge has Ok’s a pre-trial conference and said if an agreement is not reached by April 18th a trial date will be set.

Dawson County Attorney Liz Waterman plans to prosecute Peterson no matter what the fed’s decide. She says because most of the crimes took place in Dawson County that the locals should handle most of this. Does Dawson county ban public flogging? Liz sounds like she would be in favor of water-boarding Peterson.

Davis wants to depose the young man Peterson fled with and his mother saying he has information that mom knew they were going and gave them the addresses of relatives in Mexico. He said the boy also drove part of the way and never made any attempt to escape.

The Mayor and the Firefighters are hung up on a couple of details in the contract dispute and now it is in the hands of a labor relations board.

The Firefighters are asking for a cost of living raise of 3.85% and the Mayor is asking for 3.5. The big issue is heath care benefits. The Firefighters have conceded that they will have to share the cost but want similar co-pay and out of pocket cost as they have now.

Also at issue is the way pensions are arrived at. The Mayor wants a formula that limits overtime calculated into the salary at 250 hours, the Firefighter want 300.

And there is the issue of 6 million owed the Firefighters from back in 2004 from a pay freeze and back holiday and vacation pay the firefighters held off on to help the Mayor pay some city bills. The Mayor wants the payment to not have to be all in one year. Were guessing he doesn’t have it but has the money to start the new stadium.

The Mav’s beat Alaska 4-3 to take a 1-0 lead in the Best of Three playoff series. Tonight they face Kieth Urban, wait, Saturday they square off again.

Mongo sent in a note to remind you all that tonight is the rematch between Omaha and Cedar Rapids. This time it’s the Lancers and the Rough Riders though.

The Lincoln Stars are in town Saturday.

Creighton kicks off Mo-Valley Tournament play this afternoon against Bradley at 2:30.

That’s all I got for now….More later……Hey has anyone seen Andrew ? No? He must be in Elbonia scouting players.

02.24.08 Weekend Edition

Filed under: Creighton, Huskers, Lincoln, Nebraska, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 10:21 am

Armed with a laptop, a bottle of cough syrup, prescription antibiotics and my favorite blanket, I will attempt to put together something worth reading.

The story on the news of the 4 year old girl who has show police how she smokes pot with her mom and mom’s boyfriend just made me vomit even more.

Police were called to the house after reports of the 4 year old girl and 2 year old boy filthy dirty and within reach of drug paraphernalia. The little girl demonstrated for investigators how she smoked joints used a pipe and a bong and how her mom’s friends laughed when she did it.

25 year old Lisa Schuchard faces felony child abuse charges and could get up to 6 years in prison. How someone can do this to their own child just sickens me.

2 shootings were reported early Saturday making it sound like the NO-K coral is business as usual.

2 males , one 19 the other 23, were victims in a drive by at 27th and Fort.

And a 26 year old male was shot at 37th and Saratoga after an SUV chased the vehicle he was driving and shot him. Can’t wait for the weather to warm up and this stuff to get totally out of control again.

Look like DiAnna Schimik is at it again with her “Government Knows Best” nonsense.

Her bill, LB1141, would require home schooled students to take state mandated tests or have school work assessed by an outside evaluator. If the student should fall short they would be sent to a private or public school, even though home schooled children test at or above their private/public schooled counterparts on a regular basis. HMMMMM…. Oh did we mention DiAnna’s husband is a lobbyist for the Teachers Union.

DiAnna if there were a real problem this might make sense but when the home schooled kids are scoring higher than others on the ACT and SAT’s, well somebody is doing something right and it isn’t you and Brad Ashford trying to make the state the parents for every child.

The Governor said he will veto this if it should happen to make it to his desk.

And while we are on the school issue, LB1135 would blur the lines between club and high school programs when it comes to sports.

Right now a student-athlete is not allowed to participate in and outside activities in the same sport during the active season.

Jim “I don’t care if it’s a Blizzard, drive the bus to Lincoln anyway” Tenopir says it regulates the kids time and keeps the playing field even. Mediocre but even.

I loved the example by one parent, “So does that mean a kid shouldn’t be allowed to take extra math lessons on the side, or work?” Good point. At what time is the child’s time belong to the parent and when did the NSAA get parental rights.

My favorite quote came from Kelley Hood.”People have got to trust that those of us who work in education, we know what seems to be best for kids.”

Translate that to mean “Parents we will tell you what’s best for your kids and you will like it”.  Better living through Bigger Government.

The Lancers are pulling away from the pack in the USHL. Last nights win in Des Moines 8-2 coupled with Friday nights win over Sioux City 3-2 has them playing their best hockey of the year.

UNO on the other hand has dropped 3 in a row and got swept at Northern Michigan, losing 6-4 on Friday and 4-3 in overtime on Saturday after entering the 3rd leading 3-1.

Creighton won it’s bracket buster game over Oral Roberts Saturday on a 3 pointer at the buzzer and the earth is still standing still as Nebraska beat it’s second ranked opponent in 2 games.

That’s all I have the strength to muster up at this point.

02.22.08 Friday Mongo filling in for the sicko’s

Filed under: Lincoln, Mongo Torrey, Nebraska, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 7:18 am

Glad I’m not in the same block let alone building as the rest of these guys. Geno called begging for help. “Mongo I don’t know how Bugs does it, I only write a post here in there but never the entire page, can you help me, boo hoo hoo hoo”.

So at 6:15 a.m. I am a bit cranky after working the graveyard shift over at Fast Freddie’s Taco Mart and Firearm’s store, now featuring Live Bait and Pizza.

What is going on with all these people and kiddie porn? Now there is a warrant out for the mom of a 15 year old girl after it was discovered that “mom” photo shopped her daughters face on some nude pictures and posted them on the Internet. Mom has also posted a few naked pics of her 49 year old ass on there as well. I know it isn’t her body mom, but that’s your own kids face you did that to. And she found them doing a search of her own name.

Now there is no wonder why this (biting tongue) woman is an EX-wife. Her daughter lives with the father.

UNL has banned the nationally popular game assassin from all campus buildings and grounds after campus police were alerted to a gunman only to find the guy armed with and bright orange nerf gun.

The game that has been around for some time has a player drawing someones name and then they have to hunt them down and tag them with a nerf dart or at other schools water pistols are used or even socks.

UNL has called the game inappropriate. Next on the ban list is Hide and Seek and pin the tail on the Peerlman.

Strong words from the Governor yesterday as he referred to the Nebraska Supreme Court as an “Activist Court”. (Hey Gov tell us something we don’t know)

Hell Uncle Ben Nelson once dressed up as the scariest thing he could imagine for Halloween,  A Supreme Court Justice. And he appointed most of them.  I am not saying he put in people with his agenda, I’m saying their agenda scares the crap out of him as well.

The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the electric chair does not violate the 8th amendment of cruel and unusual punishment and in their ruling the Nebraska Court acknowledged that, then interpreted an identical amendment in the Nebraska State Constitution to mean something different. Call it activist, call it Ernies going away hummer, call it what you want, it’s bull shit. Just my opinion.

An Omaha woman gave a ride to a man she though she knew, well she knew but apparently not well enough because he zapped her with a taser, handcuffed her in the back seat, drove a few blocks and kicked her out of the car , then stole her car.

She called police from a gas station at 52nd and Military and police quickly arrested the suspect. My question is “Were the handcuffs fur covered?”

Let’s see what’s going on this weekend,

UNO travels to the Great White North to take on Northern Michigan in Marquette. This will be the first contest between the Mavs and former Assistant Coach Rob Facca who took a job with the Wildcats over the summer.

The Lancers are at home Friday against Sioux City (does the restraining order keep our Bantam people out of this game or just up there? Sorry had to get at least one joke in however there is no truth to the rumor the Bantams will give punching lessons to the team before the game) OK enough of that…anyway its Lowes Youth Building Kit night. The first 300 kids get a Lowes youth tool set capable of taking most household items apart and starting a major remodeling project if you wanted to or not, Get there early.

And I hate basketball do who cares if the Huskers or Jays are at home.

If you got anything good, email me early, otherwise have a great weekend.

BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Muppet Mike held a show with the Metropolitan Hospitality Association to talk about his plans for the new downtown ball park. He was still quiet on most details however he brazenly told the attendees that he “Highly doubted the amount of hotel tax in Omaha is going to scare anyone away.” The Hotel and Motel managers told him the were not in favor of a room tax increase.

Folks, do you really think he cares?

If you thought you were having a bad day be glad you were not the 25 year old woman who hit an object at 102nd and West Maple Road at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. That object was a State Patrol Car that had pulled over another driver. Yep you guessed it, DUI and on top of that, open container.  The officer escaped injury.

Attorney General John Bruning has asked the State Supreme Court to reconsider it’s ruling on the electric chair. In his letter the AG listed 5 errors in the ruling one of which states that the Nebraska Constitution now offers criminals more protection than the U.S. Constitution.

No word on if a new hearing will be granted and yes Ernest is attempting to stick his nose in it. Be sure to watch for the release of the new blockbuster “Ernest didn’t take the Bar Exam”.

The vote for dumbass of the day goes out to the 31 year old man who was arrested for attempting to rob the Creighton Federal Credit Union for the third time this month. Police had the facility staked out and apprehended the man as he exited with an undetermined amount of cash.

Chrissy Edwards as he is now known in prison, wants a new trial. Edwards was convicted of the death of Jessica O’Grady and sentenced to 100 years in jail. Her body was never found but large amounts of her blood were discovered all over Edwards bedroom and 0n a Bankok Battle Sword in his closet.

Edwards claims he is entitled to a new trial because he was not allowed to bring up relationships with other men that O’Grady had. Guess they would only matter is the men had access to your bedroom now wouldn’t it Chris. Be a stand up guy and let her family know what you did with her body.

Delayno Shackelford was given 6 more years in prison after pleading no contest to manslaughter of an unborn child. Delayno kicked his 8 month pregnant girlfriend 2 years ago causing the child to die.

Creighton bounced back from a loosing streak to beat Missouri State last night at the Qwest 88-67. Senator Ben Nelson delivered a pre-game pep talk to the team (Win or I’m taxing your scholarship)

And the Lancers beat Lincoln 3-2 in overtime at the Ice Box. Barry Almeida got the game winner.

Late Update: FedEx just stopped by with a copy of an incident report. After reading Goober’s version of what happened last Saturday we, well I, have come to the conclusion that this was a stupid incident involving irrational hot heads and even as much fun as I or we could have poking fun of the situation, we are going to let it be. (In other words I know someone involved and frankly it would be to easy ).

However reading the version that I was provided I still wonder how long it took Bubba the town cop to write it out in crayon. No wonder details are sketchy, I believe this report contains stick figure pictures of what happened though they are listed as “artist rendition”in the evidence column.

Now you can all stop emailing me, I did not throw anyone under the bus, but I could leave a copy for Mongo if you want me to.

More later…………………….

The Lancers posted a 7-0 win at Sioux Falls making Mike Hastings the winingest Coach in USHL history. The win also keeps the team 2 points in front of Indiana for the overall lead.

Last nights trip to the civic ended in disappointment as Bowling Green topped the Mav’s 3-1 on the back of the BG Goalie,Eno, who was blistered throughout the night but turned everything but one shot away.

A little over 7,000 was there with us and made us wish that many had come to watch the Knights with us on a regular basis. That is still a great place to watch a hockey game.

Creighton took another shot to the head yesterday in Peoria, falling to Bradley 87-59. Creighton has 4 regular season games left.

So much for our Sports Extra Update….

02.16.08 Weekend Update

Filed under: Lincoln, O.M.A.H.A. Hockey, OPS, Omaha, Omaha Lancers, UNO Hockey — eyeonomaha @ 9:13 am

Another well liked teacher/coach has shocked all that knew him and has been charged with possession of child porn.

Tom Gellatly, the speech and drama teacher at McMillan Magnet Middle School was charged after dozens of images of prepubescent males were found on his home computer. Gellatly also served as the swimming coach and had previously taught at Blessed Sacrament Catholic School.

Friday must have been the day for stupid court rulings. A Sarpy County Judge has released Heather Henning on bond pending her appeal that the sentence for her killing Douglas County Sheriff Deputy Shad Nicks while she was driving drunk was excessive. Henning was given a mere 3 1/2 to 5 years in jail for the incident. Due to an error in labeling the blood alcohol evidence Henning’s charges were lowered as it is. Heather had only sat in jail for a month before her release. Shad’s family will serve a lifetime without him.

A Knox County District Court Judge has ordered a couple who was attempting to adopt a child, to return the three month old to it’s biological mother after it was discovered they did not disclose the mothers pregnancy.

The 22 year old biological mother had wanted her son to be an only child and now could no longer support the placement.

The couple said they had not intended to deceive anyone and that the mother had miscarried three times previously.

Karen Authier, Executive Director of Nebraska Childrens Home Society’s praised the Judges ruling.

Ok let me get this right, the 22 year old didn’t want to raise the child but wanted to dictate how many kids were to be in the family? The people adopting the child had miscarried 3 times so it would be prudent to think it could happen again and they want badly to raise a family, unlike the woman giving the child up?

It sounds to me like birth mom didn’t want the expense and responsibility of raising the child but wanted to call all the shots while it was being raised. And maybe it’s just me but this sounds like Baby Brokering and a Judge just facilitated it.

Hope Brad Ashford is reading this….In the second time in a week a driver contracted by the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services was been charged with endangering a child in their care after a man was arrested for sexually assaulting a 15 year old he was transporting to a group home. This follows a woman arrested for DUI with a blood alcohol level of .40 transporting a ward of the state down I-80. Another youth being transported earlier this year escaped and was later charged in a murder in Omaha.

So Mr.Ashford do you really still want to clog up Juvenile Court with kids missing school when it appears the State has a big enough problem watching out for  the kids in it’s care already?

And then we spotted this.

The Dawson County Board has ignored the advice of its County Attorney and voted to hire outside council to fight the opening of Shaker’s West, a nude dance club owned by the same person who runs the location in Waverly.

The County Attorney informed the board that the code did not differentiate between the types of commercial use. No alcoholic beverages would be served or permitted. He warned the board that this will cost an enormous expense to the county to fight an unattainable battle.

The owner of the club’s attorney vowed to file suit if the Board attempted to halt the opening saying they would charge them for  loss of revenue and reduction in property value all which will cost the County taxpayers considerable expense if the win.

Just a word to the County Board out there, you better look around and do some research on this because you won’t win this case and you will cost everyone a ton of money, wait what am I saying , you won’t win…Shit Heather Henning’s out of jail, anything can happen. Lawyer up folks and may the best suit win.

A big high five goes out to Mike Hastings of the Omaha Lancers. With last nights 7-2 blasting of the Tri-City Storm Mike ties former Des Moines Coach Bob Ferguson’s all-time USHL win mark at 517. He will look to break that mark tonight when the Lancers take on Sioux Falls. The win also puts Omaha ahead of Sioux City by 14 points.

And UNO rocked the old barn last night with a 5-3 win over Bowling Green at the Civic. ( Hockey is so much better there). The two teams meet again tonight in the old house.

And there is some pretty good hockey going on out at Moylan as the O.M.A.H.A. Jr Lancers host Shattuck St. Mary’s this weekend. Games are Sat 2/16/07 at 11:15 and 7 p.m. and Sunday 2/17/08 at 10 a.m.

And the Midwest Champion Bantam AA team will be hosting the Presidents Day tournament over the weekend as well.

So get your butts off the couch and get out there.

And Pat, I don’t care what anybody else says, but as I sit here and write this I have to say NICE JOB on the TV’s. What a pleasant surprise to walk in here today and not have to lean on the front counter or fight 15 unwatched siblings over the Disney Channel. The place looks great and you and your staff should be commended. The only thing that could make this wall of video any better would be if everyone passed the hat and kicked in for a subscription to Center Ice. Then again, some of us would never go home.

Have a great weekend everyone………

A fire in a detached garage in the 6300 block of North 33rd sent an Omaha man to the hospital with 3rd degree burns to his face. Fire fighters said the fire was compounded when a  couple of propane cylinders exploded.

Police arrested a 16 year old graffiti pain in the ass after a short chase at 5 a.m. The kid was seen painting on a building at 24th and F with another person who got away. The kid was taken to the Youth Detention Facility.

The Democratic Caucus appeared to be a big success with Barack Obama taking 68% of the delegates. Despite chaos at some sites and traffic backup’s the party hailed the caucus experience and would like to see it happen again.

After an argument with his wife a man rammed her car with his near 85th an Maple. The car also contained his four children along with his wife. The man fled before police could arrive.

Creighton crushed Southern Illinois 72-53 giving them sole possession of third place in the valley.

The Lancers knocked out two wind over the weekend. A 5-2 win over Chicago at home on Friday, followed by a 6-5 penalty marred barn burner in Waterloo.

UNO pulled out a big 5-2 win over Ohio State before over 10,000 Saturday night.

Sorry but it was a boring news weekend. More later……………….

19 year old Alissa Harger entered a plea of guilty yesterday to all 6 counts of Drunk Driving. You remember this little sweetie. 6 DUI’s in 2 months, one at twice the legal limit doing 94 on West Dodge with her infant in the car.

She remains in custody on a $100000 bond and awaits sentencing which hopefully will be a little more than a slight tap on the wrist and an ankle bracelet for 6 months.

In another go figure news story, police exercised a search warrant on the former home of the Von Maur shooter. That woman everyone wanted to anoint for saint hood because she was “trying to help him get on with his life” was busted for selling and using drugs. As Gomer Pile once said SURPRISE SURPRISE SURPRISE or something like that. Yep old Deb Maruca-Kovac was also sited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor and her kid was nailed for possession as well.

An Omaha Police officer and his wife have been charged with 4 counts of felony child abuse after allegations surfaced that they had handcuffed their 13 year old son for a lengthy period of time because he was caught smoking. The restraint caused no injury to the boy who is said to have had other problems with inhalants and behavior issues. The officer is on administrative leave and if convicted would loose his job.

Police made a traffic stop near 42nd and I-80 that netted a 123lb marijuana bust. Police arrested a 56 year old male and a 21 year old female from Texas and charged them with possession with intent to deliver.

A 36 year old man was arrested in a Bellevue Motel for practicing piercing and body art without a license after he was turned in for piercing a 16 year old tongue. Conditions in the room were less than sanitary. Officials say the man has been in the room for 5 weeks and it appears he has done more than just the one piercing.   Great, Gypsy Piercing and Tattoo’s- get your communicable disease all in one stop.

Police and Health and Human Services are working on a cease and desist order. The motel should just evict him.

UNO is home to Ohio State both tonight and Saturday.

The High School All-Star game will proceed the UNO contest on Sat. Get out and support the kids.

The Lancers are at home to face The Chicago Steel tonight then take to the road to face Waterloo on Saturday.

Back later as I have a feeling there is more to come…………………..

Enjoy the weather today people. Temps could flirt again with the 50’s but were going to freeze our little asses off tomorrow.

Wonder if that forecast will earn me the Meteorological Seal of Approval?

Got a candidate for CFM (complete fucking moron(Thanks Captain))

Early Saturday morning an officer was sitting in the Eastbound turn lane at 96th and Q when a Westbound driver lost control of her car and hit the cruiser sending the officer to the hospital. The driver of the other car was 15 and cited for, DUI,MIP and a host of other offenses. Nice driving sweetheart, lets hope they hold your real license for a few more years till say oh after you complete rehab. No word yet on if she will loose her Brittney Spears Fan Club membership.

A construction worker that was securing metal to the roof of the new Wal-Mart being built on the old Ranch Bowl site was killed Sunday when the metal gave way and he and another worker fell 25 feet to a stack of metal below. The other worker is in critical condition and the names have not been released pending notification of family. Neither man was from Nebraska.

OSHA and a host of other investigators will be on site today.

An out-state story caught my eye and I couldn’t help but share this with you.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has asked Southern Power District to install a device called a spinner on it’s Platte River power lines that run near the migration path of the Whooping Crane.

The Wildlife Service is picking up the tab for most of the devices and asking Southern to pay about a thousand dollars and install them. Cost per customer would be roughly $1.20.

The President of Southern is baulking at the idea saying it would cost to much and nobody knows just how effective they are.

Mongo translated that to mean ” I don’t give a shit about the birds and that buck twenty a customer comes out of my bonus so let’s have a barbecue.”

I wonder if the fine will be over 30k if one of the birds gets zapped?

And authorities can’t say if the 18 year old shot at the Amoco at 30th and Martin ave will survive his injuries. He is still listed in critical condition. Police said he was not an employee of the station and they don’t know if he was a customer or just shot there by someone. They are asking for help in the investigation.

The Lancers skated to 2 big wins over the weekend. Friday they beat Waterloo 3-1 and Saturday they beat Sioux Falls by the same score.

UNO was off this weekend.

That’s all we have this morning. Back later with more………………

Thanks to Mongo for filling in for me while I battled a virus last week and over the weekend.

To answer the first dozen questions in my mailbox this morning, No we did not intentionally pull the “Little Billy Dumbass” story. While editing a few threatening comments we somehow lost the main article and are going to see if Mongo can reconstruct it off his notes. Check back later…

Not much in the news today.

Few details are being released about a Papillion man arrested for 2nd degree murder of his mothers boyfriend. The 29 year old man was taken away after police were called to a disturbance and found the dead body.

What is going on in Papillion anymore? It seems to be in the news a lot and for all the wrong reasons.(That was a joke by the way, don’t start sending hate mail.)

One that got missed yesterday, While investigating an man sleeping in his car with the motor running  officers opened the door at which time the man threw the car in reverse, trapping the officer in the door and dragging him near 42nd and Kansas Ave. When an attempt was made to stop the vehicle the driver sped off with an officer firing at the car hitting the back window. Police later found the car abandoned at Martin Ave and Redick.

The officer was treated and released and no suspect has been captured.

While I was sick in bed I did watch most of the playoff games.

The ageless one, Brett Favre guided the Pack to a snow covered win over Seattle.

Eli Manning and the Giants ousted the Cowboys.

The unbeaten Patriots fought off a pesky Jaguar team.

And San Diego eliminated the reigning Super Bowl Champion Colts.

UNO dropped a pair to Miami-Ohio over the weekend.

The Lancers took 2 from Des Moines then won a heart stopper last night at home.

With less than a second left in regulation, Chris Hepp pounded home the winning goal in a 2-1 win over Tri-City. The 6 points over the weekend puts the Lancers alone in First Place.

And from the email’s there was some great action in the Midwest Peewee play out at Moylan over the weekend. We are still waiting for updates from our trusted sources before posting results.

Back later with more……………

Funerals and memorial services are underway for the Von Maur shooting victims. Westroads reopened except for the department store.

Get ready for the Kelsey Peterson case to get really crazy as if it wasn’t already. She is due in court today to see if she will be released from jail pending trial.

Meanwhile an attorney has agreed to represent the alleged 13 year old alleged victim free of charge. She claims the family of undocumented workers have been torn apart by this and that they have done nothing wrong.

I guess this lawyer was gone from class the day they discussed the term ILLEGAL. You can sugar coat it calling them undocumented but the true fact of the matter is they are illegal aliens, so don’t say they did nothing wrong.

As for dear Kelsey, I wouldn’t plan on being home for Christmas. I doubt they are going to allow bail.

A home invasion near 25th and Fort Saturday left a woman in the home shaken but uninjured as a man forced his way in, yelling the name of a man who also lives there, firing a couple shots then leaving. Someone owes someone something.

Are you sick of seeing the story about Oprah out on the trial with Obama? Just let the guy give his message, we don’t need Oprah telling us how we should feel about ourselves.

UNO Tied Lake Superior State 1-1 and 3-3 over the weekend.

The Lancers dropped an overtime loss to Sioux City 3-2 then bounced back to blank Lincoln 2-0.

Creighton topped St Joe’s 90-84 in OT

Some of the boys will be around later today is their schedule allows.

Only 14 more shopping days till Santa slides his fat ass down the chimney. I am still trying to figure out what to get Mrs. Torrey. Watch you ankles, I could be shopping in a store near you in an attempt to not offend her with my offerings this year.

A Benson student has been released from the hospital after his CAT scan came back clear. The student had been punched in the head during class and was taken to the hospital after having trouble breathing.

Bo Pelini will help LSU in the National Title game. Tom Osborne said it would not hurt recruiting for the Huskers during the dead period.

Osborne also demoted himself to Assistant Coach so he can still help with recruiting. He had to pass the 2007-08 Coaching Certificate Exam as well.

Barney Cotton is back as well. He will be the offensive line coach.

Turner Gill spoke out publicly about the job yesterday, saying the fit at Nebraska was not right at this time. He says he has some unfinished business in Buffalo and expects to challenge for the conference title and go to a bowl game next year.

Felony theft charges have been files on a Creighton University Medical Center Employee who is accused of selling stolen surgical hernia plugs on Ebay. Not something I would go shopping there for but, wait, who in the hell would buy hernia plugs off EBay?

Debra Lafave has been arrested again, this time for having a conversation with a 17 year old waitress at the restaurant where they both work. The conversation were classified as girl talk however Lafave’s sentence prohibits contact with anyone under 18.

And Geno and Patches just walked in and reported the Lancers won last night in a shoot-out 5-4 over hated Des Moines.  Drew Conboy scored the game winning goal and the game winning punch when he knocked out former Lancer and Omaha native Bret Bruneteau early in the game after a slashing call. Geno said the fight call went like this, “One and done”. Guess he should have stayed with the home team.

The Lancers are in Sioux City Friday.

UNO is home this weekend, facing Lake Superior State.

Back later if something good comes up….

We will be in meetings at times today so comments and emails may be delayed.
