  6. asdf,
I am glad that I am not the only one that pisses you off here. Have you ever thought of changing asdf to SpongeBob AngryPants? For the humor impaired, that was a joke. Actually I think that the Eye-Guys are doing this because they enjoy it. It isn’t their paying gig. I know that I post comments while I am at work and work interruptions come first. They get a great product out for doing something on-the-side, for fun, and without pay. Bugs, feel free to correct me if I am wrong as I am only giving my impressions and not speaking for you. Now I am off to the Speedo Mobile and heading home for the night!

  7. Correct you are Captain. We do this not for the money or the glory or the fame. None of which exist in the first place. We do it for fun, laughs and a little dialogue, well except for Torrey who does it because he is that twisted and it helps with his therapy.

Write it on a peice of paper and then hold it up to a mirror to see what it would say ir you saw it in the rear view mirror. Reminds me of a plate I saw in Iowa 20+ years ago it said 3M TA3. I saw that one in the rear view mirror and nearly drove off the road laughing.

Why did Asdf come back and why is he so hateful? Did his mom not love him enough? Did he always come in second place (or more likely watched from the side to begin with)? Did his boyfriend leave him? Whats his deal and why doesn’t he stick to the Stars Wars blogs if he doesn’t like it here?

  21. What he is getting paid $10,000 to coach a Bantam team are your kidding me? I am sure the families who play for him are going to love the extra costs of having an overpaid coach. I don’t think wilkie even gets that much. What happen to the good old days when people volunteered to give back to the community. We saw better hockey when we had the dads coaching, and many more kids moved onto higher levels. Just food for thought….

  23. As you watch the flooding in the Midwest , have you noticed that there
are no farmers running around with stolen plasma TVs or holding stolen
liquor over their heads. There’s no looting or yelling ‘Where’s Bush?’,
‘Where’s FEMA?, Where’s my check?’, or ‘Why isn’t the Gov’t out here
    saving me and my farm?’

Likewise, I’ve also noticed there are no reports of any other country coming
    to help or sending aid.

Where are all of the Hollywood celebrities holding telethons asking for help in restoring Iowa and helping the folks affected by the floods?

Where is all the media asking the tough questions about why the federal government hasn’t solved the problem? Asking where the FEMA trucks (and trailers) are?

Why isn’t the Federal Government relocating Iowa people to free hotels in Chicago ?

When will Spike Lee say that the Federal Government blew up the levees that failed in Des Moines ?

Where are Sean Penn and the Dixie Chicks?

Where are all the looters stealing high-end tennis shoes and big screen television sets?

When will we hear Governor Chet Culver say that he wants to rebuild a ‘vanilla’ Iowa , because that’s the way God wants it?

Where is the hysterical 24/7 media coverage complete with reports of cannibalism?

Where are the people declaring that George Bush hates white, rural people?

How come in 2 weeks, you will never hear about the Iowa flooding ever again?

    Shocking contrast isn’t it???!!!!

  25. The $10,000 seems shocking at first, but having had my son play for Scotty last year I would pay that for a season. If you do the math, based on 17 players that is $588 per player. My son has attended week long camps for $550 and didn’t get anywhere near as much out of them compared to what he learned last season from Scotty. Three hours of practice a week over the course of the season, plus trips, that seems like quite a bargain when you break it down. I do not believe that playing for Scotty, Wilkie, or anyone that played at a higher level will make your child play at that level, nor does my son expect to. But if you are going to play why not have the best possible person to teach you how and help you be the best your abilities allow for? And no, I don’t write a check off my line of credit nor am I “rich”. It is called overtime and budgeting. I agree there are great Dad coaches out there as well, but if you have someone of Scotty’s caliber coaching it is worth it for the experience, development, improvement, and fun. Additionally his family is very supportive and his wife does an excellent job finding hotels-she probably saves a family the amount equivalent to what is paid for coaching just in the hotel rates she is able to negotiate. So really if you break it down and do the math it isn’t so bad and after the improvements I saw last year and the fun my son had as well as the respect he has for Scotty, it would be worth it. If you are still skeptical, ask one of the boys that have played for him.

    Comment by Let's Do The Math — July 7, 2008 @ 7:14 am

  26. I think the point that is missed is while you were able to budget and work overtime there are familys with kids that would love for their kid to have the same expierence however that added $588 a player on top of the other expenses eliminated them from the chance. And don’t kid yourself, there are people in hock up to their eyeballs over their childrens youth sports.
When people hear a youth hockey coach at the Bantam level is pulling in 10k it adds to the perception that it isn’t the best kids picked for the teams just the one’s who’s parents have the deepest wallet or are willing to work themselves to the bone so Johnny can star in the BPHL later in life.
    It’s a double edged sword.

    Patches Castelar

    Comment by eyeonomaha — July 7, 2008 @ 8:05 am

  27. Give me a break, you really think scotty is worth that? I am pulling the bullshit card. He doesn’t play to win and if I am paying the bill I expect him to pull out all tricks to make that happen. Even if the third line has to sit every other shift. We have played for him before and all the expenses of going to silver sticks and playing happy hockey was a joke. So Yah O.M.A.H.A for not giving me choices

    Comment by hockey nut — July 7, 2008 @ 2:03 pm

  28. Yeah Winning thats what it’s all about, not learning but winning. Oh and winning at all costs, yep thats the lesson I want my kid to have in life. Oh wait winning at the expense of others who paid the same money so some nuts ego isn’t damaged because his kids youth hockey team didn’t bring a trophy home every week so he could stand around and brag to his co-workers till the next trip. OMAHA is giving you a choice, in fact I dont remember tryouts happening yet so who says your little shits even on a team but if you dont like it then play down or play across town but stop bitching about things that haven’t even happened yet. Oh and stop living your life vicariously through your kids.

  30. Your a nut, sounds like house hockey is right up your alley. I must warn you even there you don’t get far ice time. They all pay the same amount of $$’S. It’s called a competive sport.

    Comment by puck it — July 8, 2008 @ 7:44 pm

  31. Far ice time?
Looks like you have taken one to many head shots.
You two morons should stop living through your children, drop about 50 lbs and maybe play a sport you can compete in like co-ed softball.
The point I was making is that some jackass thinks his kids spot is sewn up even though there hasn’t even been a tryout. He is worried about the coach when his kid hasn’t even made the team and if the rumor that Scotty is the coach is true then I hope he has issues with this fool and doesn’t take his kid because of it.
No my kid isn’t a third liner but if he were I wouldn’t stand around the rink bitching that I knew best and he was getting screwed. If you don’t like the Coach or his gameplan it’s simple, don’t play on that team. Run back across the street and play there. Problem solved and you might even fit in better.
What will you two boneheads do when your kids leave the nest? Oh wait I am sure you have enough video to relive the termite championship game they played in.
Grow up and get a life away from the keg and listening to Glory Days over and over.

But for the record, Hockeynut and puck it are the same person who thought posting a couple of comments under different names would bolster their argument however this is the same person who claimed last year that we let Wilkie off the hook . Your a Nut Period you might be on to something when you say they have an issue with Coaches in general.
There is the Coaching program you could get in to so you could take over and show us all how it should be done.
In all my years around the rink I have found that thoes that can, do. And thoes that can’t, stand by the glass and bitch about it.

There is a rumor that OMAHA has selected Wilke as the Bantam AA coach three days before the application deadline. Does that mean he coaches 26 different teams in three different states? Good to see the new President crumble like a cheap suit.

  40. This is the funniest stuff I have heard in a long time. Thanks for the laugh. I think bottom line is people don’t want to pay the extra expenses of a paid coach. When my kids were younger I don’t ever recall paid coaches. We would pick up the coaches dinner on the road. Either way have a great season.

    Comment by Mavs Hockey — July 9, 2008 @ 8:53 am

  41. Same old story. Some guy who thinks his kid is the next Crosby wants to complain that his kid might not get good Coaching because he knows whats best. Afterall he has held Mav’s season tickets for 10 years so he knows hockey. Why you would be amazed at what an expert you can become watching from the mezzanine through the bottom of a plastic beer cup.
Too many parents are lining up to hitch their kid on the Wilkie Train or the Turner Train or whoever comes down the road next. Lighten up people. The adult league I play in is littered with past youth hockey stars who never went anywhere.
And so what if a kid plays house hockey his entire youth. Whats wrong with that other than he doesn’t get to have his parents work like dogs to help pay the expense.
Face it people, if your kid was all that the phone would have been ringing before now.
They need to sell a bumper sticker at the rink that reads “I Hocked My House for Youth Hockey”
The question you should ask your player, “Are you still having fun”. They are kids for god sake, not your future meal ticket.

    Comment by Bootswanabe — July 14, 2008 @ 3:37 pm

  45. Here is a question for you guys to ask the powers that be.

I hear that there is going to be a conditioning for tryouts camp run by once again Complete Hockey. Does this mean if my kid doesnt go to complete hockey he cant play travel?
What is this love affair our board has with this business? Someone also told me that the coaching director has an interest in the business, isnt that a conflict of interest? You guys are sick of the religious stuff being shoved down your throat well I am sick of having this stuffed down mine and being made to think i am a bad parent who isnt looking out for his kids hockey future because i wont send my kid to some fad workout program. Maybe the new coaching director should run his own clinics and leave the other business across the street.

    Comment by Mad Dad — July 17, 2008 @ 7:10 am

  46. Nothing is listed on the Web site about it so we can’t say if it is true or not.
We doubt it will eliminate your kid from playing travel however you might be capable of that all on your own.
We heard a rumor over here that you were conducting a “How to Coach Your Kid From the Stands” clinic. Any truth to that?

    Mongo

    Comment by eyeonomaha — July 17, 2008 @ 7:24 am

  47. There is a definite connection. John Thomas (JT) is both Coaching Director at OMAHA as well as Skill Director at Complete Hockey. Check coaches page on OMAHA website…JT’s email link shows his Complete Hockey address. Conflict of interest? As long as clinics are being offered at a reasonable price, does it really matter?

    Comment by Hockey Dad — July 17, 2008 @ 8:33 am

  48. Complete Hockey is offered to all players, not just those who play hockey at O.M.A.H.A.

JT is a good guy who wants what is best for all the hockey players in town, regardless of where they play.

And considering that JT will not be picking the teams for the upcoming season,(coaches usually do that) I don’t think it matters if he is running a conditioning clinic or not.

    Comment by hockey question — July 18, 2008 @ 12:19 pm

  54. hockey question…..were you born at night or last night? But more to the point…..would you want to be the kid that did not deserve to be on the team? Kids know the scoop and ice time becomes a premium. If a kid does not measure up, no head coach will skate the kid the same minutes as others.

    Comment by Flounder — July 20, 2008 @ 9:39 am

  55. Flounder you sound like a parent of experience …or bitterness, but some of what you say is false. I would go into more detail but then I would be exposed, see ya at the pond

    Comment by Don't Agree — July 20, 2008 @ 11:59 am

  56. You people fighting over teams that havent even been held try outs crack me up. These are kids teams your agonizing over already for Pete’s sake. Let your kids enjoy being kids. You all act like there are scouts lines up in the stands to look at your little squirt and peewee. Leave the dreaming up to your kids. I know you sit at a UNO game and tell yourself that little Johnny could be out there but the odds are against you.
I would love to see a league formed of all the half wit parents that can’t skate let alone shoot. Now there would be some entertainment. And we would shelve the zero tolerance policy so your kids could yell from the stands at you every time you do something stupid like take the ice with your skate guards on. If you know so much about how things should be done then maybe you should have put your name on the ballot and ran for office. Oh but then you would be responsible for the things people bitch about all the time. I think I played softball with half you morons.

When are tryouts anyway or are they going to keep the dates a secret till the last minute? I don’t know if my kid would make a team or not but I sure would hate to be out of town on vacation only to find out we missed it AGAIN because someone didn’t have the dates posted before we made plans.
It is really our only gripe about this organization is that they wait till the last minute on everything that should be in the planning stages 6 months prior. Like getting your registration packet in the mail the Monday after the date.

Sometime in August? Why would they not know now? Dont they have to secure the ice time in advance?
I agree with the others, this last minute stuff is bullshit.
It amounts to poor planning on the part of the persons in charge if we are just getting aroung to setting dates now.
Have the Coaches been picked so they can start to organize their plans or are we waiting till the teams are picked and we do the same nonsense as last year? Will there be priority seating at tryouts?
And they wonder why people get mad.

  76. We really don’t care who is who.
What we would really like to know, and Im quessing Im not alone form the comments here, are the try out dates and why they are some big secret. Information is a good thing, like dates so you can plan, cost’s so you can plan, you know common items.
Either someone is too lazy to do the work or on a power trip holding out the information till the last minute but it makes this organization look like it was just being formed. How long has it been around? You would think by now they would have this process down.
