Well its going to cost more to live the good life. Saying they were unable to find more cuts in the City budget, on a 4-3 vote the City Council approved a budget that includes a $15 wheel tax hike, a $50 commuter fee on anyone who works in Omaha but resides outside its taxing jurisdiction, a property tax increase and a 2.5% tax on restaurant and catering. That last one comes with a twist as the tax will be added before the 7% sales tax is added on thus you will be taxed on the tax.

Some cuts were made and undoubtably ones that Diamond Jim will try and add back in. The Sun Dawgs program was cut as was money to the Convention and Visitors Bureau as we don’t need to try and attract travel dollars and the Building Bright Futures program to fight truancy.

Voting against the budget were Strothert, Thompson and Festerson. Voting for it were the rubber stamp crew of Grey, Gernandt, Jerram and Mulligan. How we miss Siegerson. This could have gone the other way if he were still able to serve.

The vote was cast despite the outrage of the people of Omaha who have voiced their displeasure over the matter. Remember folks. Jerram and Company know better on how to spend your money. Don’t you feel like your wallet has just been lifted?

The commuter tax will be collected by employers. Lets hope that they have thought of a way to not double or triple collect the fee thus resulting in a lawsuit being filed against the city by some poor person working two or three jobs to stay afloat. The cost of fighting the suit will wipe out any revenue gained and with Paul Kratz as City Attorney there is a pretty good chance the city would loose. Notice Kratz’s salary stayed status quo.

Diamond Jim can still veto all or part of this in the next 9 days. If he should and there are not enough votes to override his veto then the mil levy goes up and we all take his foolish spending in the shorts. The least he could do is thrown out some discount coupons for the Hilton.

Anyone seen Muppet Mike lately?

Times must be getting tough for everyone. I thought the bike by shooting was bad but a bus-by shooting?

Actually a fight broke out on a MAT bus near 30th and Ellision. The driver kicked the 3 participants off and when they hit the street one opened fire on the other two. Guess what? Yep. Nobodys talking. Wonder if these guys knew Lite-Bright?

Going back to the Bus-by shooting, can’t you just hear this at the next meeting…”Yo that Mo-Fo better be glad he don’t live on no bus route or I’d lite his shit uuuuuuupppppppp….who got some transfers?”

More later………………..

  1. Captain Obvious

Yeah city landmarks are all in danger if they are more than 5 years old. We aren’t getting taxed to death… we already have been. We are losing our jobs right and left. I have friends that are well qualified that have been out of work for more than a year. Why don’t these morons get it? Stop stealing our money and calling it taxes. Is there any truth to the rumor that Suttle faces booing every time he goes out to eat? Maybe he should sit at the table with the man who gave us the term the “Cornhusker kickback.” It is embarassing being governed by these idiots. Remember their names… vote them out…. Where can I sign the recall petitions? I AM MAD AS HELL AND I’M NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANY MORE!!!!!! AAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHH!

  2. This is some funny shit you have going on in Omaha. First you lose Aksarben (yes a blast from the past ), then you lose Rosenblatt , can’t get through a night without a shooting in North Omaha, no more Polocks in South Omaha , they have been replaced with Mexicans, now you are taxing yourselves to death. You won’t vote in Legalized Gambling .
